    Only learned about this library's existence a few days ago. Sounds terrific and as always your review and walkthrough is a great help. I wish more sample companies would make libraries for UVI's software.

    How good is VHORNS with making loud notes, atleast in the same style as the Police Squad theme song? I've been meaning to buy one of thoae libraries

    Worth mentioning that you can play the mute with eg a foot pedal to get those trumpety wah wah type sounds. Only on one setting if I remember.

    Thanks for this review. Very helpful. I have always problems with velocity. Some tones are louder than others and no idea how to fix that. I increased already the velocity on my keyboard and used Midi modifiers in Cubase but still the same.

    This should be good. I hope there's a comparison to my beloved Audio Modelling gems.
    Update; this pushed me over the edge. As with my adventure back into VSTs after 10 years, your review & playing have motivated me to spend money, bro. Ruben. You've been a huge influence on my library choices & my wallet! LOL. I can't wait to conduct a shootout between Acoustic Samples, Audio Modeling, & Sample Modeling... I also can't wait until Sampled Audio (when they exist) & Audio Acoustica come out with horn libraries, so, at the very least, i can have every combination of those words covered. LOL

    • @hifimidi
      @hifimidi  2 года назад +3

      Thanks for the kind and encouraging words. I’ve been going back and forth between them. So far they’re both great. SWAM horns are way easier to program but the lack of vibrato shaping makes it limiting as far as stylistic tailoring. The vibrato in swan sounds inauthentic. However, the timbre-especially when layering-gives SWAM the edge. It sounds radio ready almost right out of the box. This is a tough one.

    • @Daring2Win
      @Daring2Win 2 года назад +1

      @@hifimidi my ears are not as keen as yours, but I certainly hear what you mean; SWAM has a "sparkle and polish" to the sound. I also find it easier to generate rips due to the lack of less intense velocity response. But, V Horns has superior keyswitch effects (the doit especially (samples, I'm sure), the microphone option, & spatial simulator are superstars! Are you having any CPU issues when implementing the section option in a single instance of UVI? My computer is a workhorse (3.07GHz OC'd,12/24 cores, 96GB RAM) and this hasn't stuttering.

    • @canastraroyal
      @canastraroyal Год назад

      @@hifimidi I agree about SWAM. It's amazing how little tweaking you must do with it to actually fool people that it's a real brass section. I mean, if you were to use it for a ska or funk band, I bet no one could tell the difference!

    Trumpet player here…D2 is doing a 1/2 valve choke kinda thing. Probable use would be starting the note with the choke on and then continuing upward with a choked glissando up to an open note. Maybe…that’s all I can come up with for the reasoning for including that technique.

    Hi. What library would you recomend as big band?

    • @Parukero
      @Parukero 8 месяцев назад

      Not HIFIMidi, but a few personal must-haves for writing big band stuff with virtual instruments are the following:
      - "Swing!" and "Swing More!" by ProjectSAM (for Kontakt Player)
      - Glory Days: Big Band Horns by Orchestral Tools (for Kontakt Player)
      - "Session Horns" or "Session Horns Pro" by Native Instruments (for Kontakt Player)
      - "Atomic Big Band: The Horns" by Straight Ahead Samples (for Kontakt Player)
      These are my personal choices, but there's a few honorable mentions like "Broadway Big Band" by Fable Sounds and the SWAM brass stuff. Plenty to work with, but be sure to check out some demos to find out which sample libraries are the ones for you!

      Depends on what your goal is with them! If you're looking for overall realism, you have to check out Sample Modeling's Tuba and French Horn library. Basically the same deal as Vhorns (as in it's both samples and synth combined), too!

    • @hifimidi
      @hifimidi  2 года назад +2

      I’m using them both right now. Swam is definitely easier to use but I wish it had vibrato shaping and pitch imprecision and attack imprecision. IMO, that feature gives V Horns a more human element. But swam trumpet is such a joy to use.

      Seems obvious, though. The library is far more catered towards jazz and noir settings.
      If you're looking for some really good funk/latin trumpets, you should check out "The Trumpet V3" by Sample Modeling. They have a couple of funk/latin songs made with that product on their site!
