$199 is absolutely a bargain. Having always been on a budget, this thing has sounds I’ve never had access to before. The first thing I tried out when I got this was the acoustic cello library, and I was blown away. That’s the kind of sound that normally would cost almost 200 bucks on its own.
I bought the Musio 1 perpetual license several months ago. As a music hobbyist, I find these libraries to be more than good enough for me. Maybe a professional composer would not find enough controls to produce a nuanced enough performance, but some of the stuff I’ve heard produced from Musio sound terrific to me - as good as a lot of the music I hear in TV, movies and games.

Musio truly did save my ass. I got hired to write for a video game and only had Musescore but also didn't have the budget for any good libraries. Luckily, Musio came through with an ad, I checked it out, looked up reviews, got sold, made the purchase, and haven't turned back since! Also gota mention I'm using an older laptop from around 2017 maybe? It was a gift so I don't know all the details, but the fact that I can record full orchestral works really shows how friendly this is for those of us at the bottom of the totem pole financially!

I've read and saw ask the videos on it and wanted to ask you, because i know there more single and expensive libraries out there, but would MUSIO do the job that you want in learning composition and orchestrating scores? I bought it and love it. Great addition to the Abbey One and Miroslav Philharmonic I already had. Musio is still improving the software and they responded fast to my request to fix a small bug it had with Reaper. I can recommend it!

I’m so glad I didn’t get LABS instead of Musio. Much much more in Musio, and it works just fine with BBCSO. Looking forward to a Logic template, if you have time, Guy.
Should add that, when you purchase the perpetual license, you get ALL of Musio 1, but... later... if/when they put out Musio 2... the additional libraries/sounds will not necessarily be included. Might still be worth it, each user would need to determine this himself/herself. The $9.99 per month and $99/year subscriptions get you everything they have done... and everything they will do in the future. Factor this into your decision-making!
Do you have to login every-time you use the Perpetual license? I own some of the Roland Cloud instruments and it drives me crazy that they insist I login in and activate something I've activated already!
That is certainly a limitation, but it's the entire CineSamples library which would've cost multiple thousands of dollars earlier. Still need the mic positions, but they are upcoming and will be free, like other new features to the player. So I certainly think it's worth it, at least in terms of bang for the buck compared to the competitors. Guessing East/West would be the closest, but something like Hollywood Orchestra is a significantly smaller library. I'm nowhere near professional composer level, though, so quality-wise I personally have a hard time comparing the libraries currently. If preferring the subscription route, then I think the bang-for-the-buck winner is less clear.

I have switched from other well known libraries to (mainly) musio and must say, I have never felt that free as a composer. Yes there are no mic positions right now, but honestly, the basic patches sound better than most patches where you need to fiddle around for 5 mins with the positions from a lot of other libraries. This is a treat, probably for cinesamples' wallet too, not just for yours. The day there are mic positions integrated, competitors probably start following this model.
I love the Joe Lycett T shirt depicting Harry Styles! Didn’t realise you were such a fan of both. I’ve been using Musio for some time and am amazed by the variety and quality of this software. This is a wonderful addition to any media composer’s toolkit.
Recommend it. It offers so much for the price. I use regularly especially for the less common instruments as well as many of the orchestral stuff. I can make it work with BBCSO, Abbey Road One and Performance Samples just fine.
Thanks Guy! Just got the 30 day trial. Pretty flawless and a lot of very usable material here. It went to good use immediately - it plays well with SWAM and Divisimate. Simple expression mapping. I like the simple interface a lot. No brainer so far.
Thanks Guy, I haven't been here in awhile, but had to get your take on Musio. I got the lifetime license when they first put it out because I liked my Cinesamples libraries. So glad I did because it's like getting a new "free" library on a regular basis. There's 90 of them! Now, they have about 10 80's type synths and a few others, but they are really sparse. But overall, it's great and I use a lot of my Musio sounds. I have TONS of sounds, but there's is a great consistency of quality and clarity with Musio, they do a great job creating sounds.
'Don’t think about it, just do it.' - As weird as this might sound, this sure is quite a piece of advice there. At least for me that is (right here, right now). :-) A video like that, which yet again shows a way how to approach this empty canvas of the DAW, to me is very, very helpful and quite inspiring. I love it! So, thank you very much for that one - and thank you very much for taking us along with you on the short creative trip on coming up with a musical idea!

My guess, having just done the 199 deal, is that the more you use it the better, as at first you have to wait for each library to download, which can be a little slow if you choose a sound and then decide it's not what you want to use. Once you've downloaded it, it's always in your library. They point out that with Musio you don't get all the details you get if you buy the libraries outside of Musio but the price difference is so huge, it was hard to resist. I owned a number of their libraries already, so it'll be interesting if/when I come to instances where I can use the musio version of a sound or the separate version I already own, if the difference is really that dramatic.
The $199 deal seems to come around every major sale period (black friday, back to school, holidays etc). If anyone's missed this sale, maybe consider the monthly option until the next one

Guy, I always have a lot of fun watching your videos (I think I've watched them all), and get a huge amount of inspiration from them. I love the "can do" attitude. It rubs off on me when I just sit down with my DAW (Samplitude Music Studio X8) and try to bash something out there and then, instead of agonising over it. I just wanted to comment that your recommendation here has been especially helpful. I downloaded the free trial version of Musio and was bowled over by it. I've just bought the perpetual licence because I couldn't resist. I absolutely adore the Spitfire BBC Orchestra Discovery and enjoy using it, but the main limitation with the free version is the lack of solo instruments - and I can't afford the professional collection. In Musio, for this very modest fee, I can have both a lush French Horn group and a stark soloist - the contrast is wonderful. The solo violin is also gorgeous. I haven't tried the solo cello (my favourite instrument) yet - I feel like a kid eating the pie and leaving the cream till the end!

I have a Win 11 64-bit OS with a 2.90 GHz processor, 16Gb and 4 cores. I realised your kit is a tad more expensive than my little laptop. What would say is the minimum system to handle these ensemble patches. The Musio message boards have a lot of people complaining about the same thing.

Love watching Guy on a Friday. I don't like the idea of paying monthly for a subscription for perpetual access to sample libraries. However, it's more than a reasonable way for people who cannot make the dive into purchasing full libraries. I do not own lots of Cinesample libraries. Yet, the ones I currently own are quite worth the price tag. Between Soundsonline and Musio, you nearly have everything you need for sound options.
If you download something from Musio, can you keep the download on your machine/backup drive so you don't have to download it again, and so you can come back to the track next year and still have the same sounds available?
Question, is that a Stream Deck I see on your right? If so, I am curious if you have used it to send midi control messages? I have wanted to try settting mine up for that purpose but was unsure about latency.🤔
I second this - I got a couple of stream decks to help navigate my DAW, and I’ve also programmed it to change articulations for all of my sample libraries. (Even if, for example, a legato is a different key switch depending on the library, you can program the stream deck to fire out all “legato” commands at once, so no matter what library you are using, if you push “legato”, your sample library will switch to legato). They are an amazing bit of kit!!
There are SO MANY new libraries coming out ALL THE TIME! I've purchased so many that I have yet to become acquainted with... argh! Here comes Musio! Well... for the time being (perhaps at least for the next year) this will not even appear on my radar. I really enjoy the composing videos that share about a technique or a way of composing for a particular genre! However, it's always a joy to witness you digging in to write something under the gun! I know Guy Michelmore is a Pro, but i just have to mention,... when the bypass switch in Musio in on and colored (Red) it means that section is disabled 😂I guess he can hear a difference after all that knob tweaking.
Sorry for the late question Guy. I have 200 euro just begging to be spent on some groovy music sounds. Thinking about Musio. But I have East West Composer Cloud on susbcription so top notch orchestra stuff aplenty there. Then I have Native Instruments collectors edition with endless different great orchestral stuff too. Then there;s the Majestica thing I recently bought from Native Instruments which has wonderful strings and brass and woodwinds. I wanted to buy Arkhis for video game composition but it seems to just have multiple layers in one patch, but nothing I can't create with my current instruments. Already have Sequis which is a little gem for sound design and composition for games. So...Musio? Arkhis? A fashionable trilby hat? Bugger it!

At around 1:00:00 he says he won't be going into the orchestral sounds today but instead some of their other samples. And the orchestral sounds are arguably their main focus. His previous video on the topic showcases some of the orchestral instruments, though, so for someone interested in hearing those check that out and make up your mind.
I have Musio and the orchestral sounds are superb. It is incredibly good value for money with new libraries being added all the time. An electric cello was added yesterday in an update.

I have Musio and East West Opus ... Opus is magnificent, the sound is much better and legatos are fantastic. Musio seems cheap stuff, but it has some cool libraries, though, like strings chords, or brass chords. They're pretty cool

What's the traditional orchestral stuff, strings, solo strings? Worst than vsl but better than east west?
If you download something from Musio, can you keep the download on your machine/backup drive so you don't have to download it again, and so you can come back to the track next year and still have the same sounds available?
How do you manage to duplicate the track i.e. instrument but without all the events in it? Or is that what the button does?
Can you tell me what controller you're using? Also, I think you are using Cubase. I thought you were on Logic?

I second this - I got a couple of stream decks to help navigate my DAW, and I’ve also programmed it to change articulations for all of my sample libraries. (Even if, for example, a legato is a different key switch depending on the library, you can program the stream deck to fire out all “legato” commands at once, so no matter what library you are using, if you push “legato”, your sample library will switch to legato).
They are an amazing bit of kit!!

There are SO MANY new libraries coming out ALL THE TIME! I've purchased so many that I have yet to become acquainted with... argh! Here comes Musio! Well... for the time being (perhaps at least for the next year) this will not even appear on my radar. I really enjoy the composing videos that share about a technique or a way of composing for a particular genre! However, it's always a joy to witness you digging in to write something under the gun! Cheers!

I know Guy Michelmore is a Pro, but i just have to mention,... when the bypass switch in Musio in on and colored (Red) it means that section is disabled 😂I guess he can hear a difference after all that knob tweaking.

Sorry for the late question Guy. I have 200 euro just begging to be spent on some groovy music sounds. Thinking about Musio. But I have East West Composer Cloud on susbcription so top notch orchestra stuff aplenty there. Then I have Native Instruments collectors edition with endless different great orchestral stuff too. Then there;s the Majestica thing I recently bought from Native Instruments which has wonderful strings and brass and woodwinds. I wanted to buy Arkhis for video game composition but it seems to just have multiple layers in one patch, but nothing I can't create with my current instruments. Already have Sequis which is a little gem for sound design and composition for games. So...Musio? Arkhis? A fashionable trilby hat?

My issue is that you will not own your sounds...you may save presets, but if something change or is removed, you will not get that sound again

Concerns me that those are the best in the collection.
At around 1:00:00 he says he won't be going into the orchestral sounds today but instead some of their other samples. And the orchestral sounds are arguably their main focus.
His previous video on the topic showcases some of the orchestral instruments, though, so for someone interested in hearing those check that out and make up your mind.
I have Musio and the orchestral sounds are superb.
It is incredibly good value for money with new libraries being added all the time.

If you own any Eduardo Tarilonte or Orchestral tools vsts then Musio is just a sub par sample set.
I have Musio and East West Opus ... Opus is magnificent, the sound is much better and legatos are fantastic.
Musio seems cheap stuff, but it has some cool libraries, though, like strings chords, or brass chords. They're pretty cool

Yes I get that but for a lot of people it’s more affordable and - since I first looked at it - there is a perfectly affiordabke purchase option
