Yes sir!! After watching your other videos I was able to take apart, clean, re-grease, and fix the anti-reverse on my Penn 4500ss and 5500ss series reels with confidence! After fishing with these smooth beauties I noticed that something wasn’t quite rite with the drag. When I tried to set the drag it would back the drag screw out. Good thing I got skunked cause I was going for stripers, lol Watched this video and realized that I installed the metal drag washers out of order. After putting the washers back where they should be the drag is also working proper! Keep up the good work my friend!!
Lol and feeling sorry at the skunk comment.... though quite fortuitous. Happy to hear you're back on track, and ready for your next striper run. More vids to come.
Thanks, that helped. Wasn't sure what was wrong. But pulled out the washers and cleaned up. Put it back together and all works again. The reel got dunked in the surf twice yesterday so I was a bit worried. But they are tough as nails. I have the last ones that were made in the USA.
Thanks for watching! Sorry to hear your reel took a beating yesterday... the last full USA-made Spinfisher line was the best! Did you know that some of the SSG's were also made in the US? However, I preferred the the Chinese made versions.... go figure. There are a few reasons you can have issues with your drag.... this one just happen to be the drag knob (mainly). Make sure to also check the shaft and metal washers for rounding.... same for the inside of the spool. If this happens, you may need to replace them, depending on the severity. Hit the thumbs up and spread the word about the channel.
Your videos are great thanks when things were seized up on my line roller I dipped it into boiling water then ice (rapped chill) may have to do a couple times. Thanks for your knowledge ***
You're welcome and thanks for checking it out, Catherine! Thanks also for your contribution regarding the hot (expansion)/cold (contraction) method..... helpful tip for subscribers.... I still do it, too, on occasion.
Good video. I have still have the issue my drag knob turns when the spool turns. A new thrush washer and new drag knob later I still have the same issue. Any suggestions?
Thanks for watching. Sorry to hear it didn't help. What reel do you have and did this happen after you changed/worked on something on the reel (if so, what did you do) or it just started happening one after working previously?
Very interesting - I have had problems when I purchase used spinning reels and then attempt to remove the drag washer assembly. Have a nice Sunday! Tad
I have a question. I just got a 6500 and the drag feels like it’s off somehow. I have to crank the drag knob 6-7 times for it too loosen or tighten any idea why?
Thanks for checking out the vid. Make a video that shows the specific model number and them continue the video demonstrating the problem you're having. Please post the link to it in this thread. Thanks.
Why do you keep doing things the WRONG WAY. The drag system got corroded in because the drag washers were NOT greased. Use Cal’s grease on these drags too

P.S. - Be sure to go through your entire reel to clean it out and remove all the salt deposits, and re-grease and oil it.
Never bored. Always fascinated and interested. Thanks.
Thanks Steve! Glad you enjoyed the journey!

Thanks Tad! Likewise!
Yup, drags and line rollers (and pulling the pinion stack) are things rarely addressed on reels..... comparatively.

What is the drag lbs on this reel?
Thanks for dropping by. How much drag do you need?
Easy fix
Thanks for watching, Rick!

Thanks for watching and your input.
I use heavy duty truck grease. Is that okay?
What is the max drag on this reel?
Thanks for checking out the video. See my response to your previous question.
