Thanks for this video! Just brought a reel from Salt Strong - Daiwa Fuego 2023 and was trying it out today with some braided line and I thought the drag was broken until I watched this video. Put some mono on it from beginning so it can catch on the spool and tied it the remaining with braid, work out great!
I have certainly had this happen before in the past and it took a lot to figure what was going on. I thought something was wrong with my reel! Another great video tony!!! 👍👍👍
Came accross your video and as it turns out, when servicing my reel I'd gotten some grease on the clicker. A quick silicone lubricant spray and a wipedown and the drag click sounds literally good as new! Thanks for the video mate.
This will probably be in the extreme minority of cases but I have a couple of Penn Pursuit iii 3000 series reels that I love and the drag clickers work just as expected. I bought a 4000 series last year and the drag was silent. I took it apart and the factory had placed two nylon washers over the gear instead of one and it was preventing the metal tab from connecting with the gear and making the clicking noise. I removed one of the washers and it clicks away now. Just a thought in case anyone else gets stuck.
Those nylon washers are called spool spacer washers. Washers are added, to move the spool upwards in case you find that the line on your spool is piling up towards the upper lip of the spool. By adding washers you will now find the line has moved more towards the bottom of the spool. In some cases this upward or downward adjustment of the spool by adding or removing spool washers puts the clicker mechanisim and the clicker gear out of alignment and the clicker fails to produce any sound.
I’ve had this problem happen from adding too many washers trying to fix line lay. I had to settle for mediocre line lay in exchange for hearing my drag
Great video Tony!! I had a dab of grease on my Penn drag clicker last year and it took me three tries to figure out the problem. Wish I'd seen your video first! Thanks again! jbj
First time I've used my Abu Garcia Max STX reel today and after half a dozen reel ins the clicker stopped working WTF.thanks for this vid I will check it tomorrow.
@@tysonrees1951 i used a microfiber towel and kept wiping it all out and then worked the lever back and forth with a dab of oil until it started working
Dang. From day one my shimano sperros has had a few issues including the ghost drag. The prawl spring is all bent and won't keep the point straight to hit the gears. My wife uses a fresh water Abu that cost less than half this shimano and its so much smoother and comfortable.
Hello, hoping you’re still checking comments. What’s happen to my reel is when the drag is tightened down tight the clicker stops working. When I loosen up drag the clicker works fine.

My shimano sienna 1000 got no drag sound, i found that triangle point thing is not returning to centre, how do i fix that? I dont see any spring inside
very helpful i hooked into a 8 foot gator in the river and after he popped my line i was setting my line back up and couldn’t hear my drag turns out the spring thingy is completely gone
There are many ways to repair or modify the broken clicker. And the Indonesian RUclipsrs even create a new clicker to make the drag sound louder. I tried some of their methods and my reel's drag is louder than the original sound.
Also on my spinfisher 7500 if you remove the spool the shaft had a gear and that's not so post to spin and that Will make it not click got to not spin on shaft

loved your video but it's not my issue when uve taken your drag button off the reel to maybe change the spool when you put the drag button back on as your tightening it that also should click my button isn't
I locked down my spinning reel to wash it down and get rid of some of the saly corrosion. I locked it down a bit too much and now the drag knob to adjust the drag pressure no longer clicks and its really annoying me
@@tysonrees1951 yes sir, every reel is a little different. Some have one washer on the bottom and one on top of the drag gear, but they can be different thicknesses, and sometimes there's more than one stack together. It's super easy for one to fall off when you take the reel apart without noticing, or to put the washers back on in the wrong order...
@@markwallace1251 ah I took the bottom washers out and most likely put them back in the wrong order time to find the right order some how😂 Thank you 🙏🏻

I have been dealing with a drag issue from 3 reels. This is the only video I’ve found that touched on the free spooling issue. Thank you

Very good and informative video, for such a common and simple issue. Well done guys. Another well done video.
Very helpful. Thankyou. I was going to send my reel off for servicing.
Thanks to your advice I don't have to.
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much. I've been fishing for 30+ years and I didn't realize my braid was free spinning, I went and bought a new reel🤦♂️
I appreciate this video bc my clickers spring was out of place but I put it back in place and boom. My drag is back. Thanks
You're welcome!

What do I do if the clicker itself has broken off? Is the drag permanently broken or is there other fixes?
Check out the Indonesian RUclipsrs modifying the clickers for louder sounds and repair broken clickers.
I'm having that issue where the drag sounds weak can I use 91% rubbing alcohol to clean the spring of the drag
Hey can you recommend a quality budget reel for a 6 to 7 foot spin rod for fresh and sea trout fishing
nothings worse than a silent drag clicker especially wen u leave ur rod for a big fish to bite or when ur fighting the fish and the fish fights back

Proper spacing washers make all the difference in the world, ask me how I know... 🤣
Are you talking about the washers on the shaft the spool is held on? How do I tell if they’re properly spaced that could be my problem

Iq don't want the drag

Really? This requires an explanation.
Based on the great feedback we have had, yes.
Don B, take your silly condescension elsewhere.
DAIWA Procyon is not built like that, do you know anything about that reel . The drag click has disappeared.
