If I had to downsize the studio to just one machine, this would be it. It's a one-stop shop for synths/drum/sampling/time stretch/looping/effects/sequencing. I bought a MC-707 last summer after realizing that I could be wrong about what it could actually do beyond the weird vibes its name was giving me and as a result, I have picked up several pieces of the Roland Aira lineup to become a true fanboy lol 😂 The MC-707 is already much deeper and wider now than it was last summer to the point that starting an analysis all over again on what it is and can do is necessary. Hands down, it has quickly become one of my best gear purchases independent of a desktop computer and yet it can work well with any DAW! It is possibly the best kept secret weapon for hip hop that people are not sharing! Go black and green and don’t look so mean lol 😂 🎯🎯🎯🎯
What up, Roney. Fellow MC-707 owner here. I think the two things that are bothering me are 1. The default drum kits are all basically the 909 kit with one kick and one snare changed. They could've done wayyyyy better in terms of the drums that shipped with the unit. 2. We need a synth editor (and sample utility) for Mac/PC/iOS badly. The synth engine is super deep and sounds great, but editing on that screen is a chore. Otherwise.. I'm happy. Super easy to sequence on once you get the flow. Peace.

You are so right about the way they market the different products, all that prejudice affects the company more than anyone else. Regarding the MC707, the thing that cancels my buy is that it has only 16 clip rows per project.. that's a very short live set, for a techno head like me :p
i had one and sold it last year, but recently bought one again. after a week with it back in the studio, ive come to the conclusion that this is the best groovebox for house / techno. also works great as a brain for an external setup. def not an MV, more related to the legendary mc-303, mc-505, and mc-909. in a v2 would love them to keep the small screen, enhance the build quality / material, some software enhancements and I think we'd be gucci

I work in front of a computer 12+ hours a day, music is a hobby I want to take away from the computer and go sit in a corner and just create. Mv-1 lacks the adjustability of the mc707 but the vocal recording ability and effect attract me. I'm not into things like the Mpc and it's workflow. I want simple, even if limited

Nobody else posting MC-909 videos (or any MC-x0x) is doing hip hop vibes. And likewise the MPC has the reputation for the hip-hop and ppl don't realize its equally competent for EDM. Huh? Akai has been doing nothing but since they released the Live so many years back. Not only have the developers been responsive to user feature requests, they actually do make it into the MPCs eventually. I mean compare MPC 2.0 versus 2.9 and it's almost a whole new machine. Compare the Force 3.0 versus 3.0.6 and that is 100% a whole new machine. Akai has been more responsive to users than Native Instruments or Roland have ever been imo.

@@tekbeatz I think they just stepped out the game. Truth be told those two boxes can still stand up to all the new stuff. Su700 has the best sampling workflow ever and the RS sequencer still hasn't been duplicated. By the way love your music.
Rad, new DyReck! Speaking of the Roland Groove series, do you plan on covering more grooveboxes like the MC303/505, or some of the early Korg Electribes?
@@DyReckProductions Oh dope, gotta check that out! Just got a 303 for a stupid deal, and I'm getting real curious about the other ones. Keep cranking out the bangers, my dude.
I think the reason why they don't advertise the MC707 to the hip hop crowd is because Roland had said their intention with the MC707 was more for DJs and live performance. There is no song mode, though they literally just released an update that added Scene chaining after about 2 years of people asking for it. The verse lab is more for making songs, it has a song mode, let's you record vocals etc. Personally I would still go with the MC707 because it's a really nice groovebox with a very nice (though maybe not intuitive) sample/synth engine built in and the screen is better than that calculator displays they got on the MV.
Yeah I feel you on the screen..They should have made the one on the MV-1 much bigger..I think thats why they dont let you go too much into the Zencore on the MV-1.
Boombap Art and Accurate Beats dropped a Hip hop vid for this unit, this unit is solid , like the old tr808 very addictive ! So up next The Yamaha RS 7000 drop that " wat happened was "........
Between this MC 707 & the TR 08s, I really don't know which one to get. I've been stuck between the two for a while now. I have the Roland DJ 808 DJ controller, and have a hard time understanding how to make the most out of the beat machine / sequencer. If you're familiar with the 3 of these which one would be the easiest to learn and be able to use? I'm coming from a DJing background and don't have a whole lot of knowledge on these types of beat machine controllers, but I would like to purchase one bc I am also trying to start up a Record Label / Recording Studio
Out of the 3 of them I would get the 707 because of the Zencore, synth features, And the flexible sequencer features.. Its easy to make a beat on it because you can just use it like a step sequencer...And it has all the vintage sounds from past roland machines..I think you get more for your money with the 707..even if you don't understand it yet..when you do you'll be good to go.
@@DyReckProductions Alright, is the 707 pretty easy for someone that has made beats using a beat machine to understand. Like if I had some producers rent some studio time to make a beat would the 707 be something they can pick up on quickly, if they were to be coming from a MPC style beat machine, or something similar.
@@carlos_mann Well If there coming from an MPC style workflow than I would go for the MPC ONE..Its extremely easy to use once you get the hang of loading your sounds and getting started.. There's a million videos on it on RUclips and even if you don't find what your looking for searching RUclips for the MPC ONE..You can always do a search for the MPC Live or the X they all share the same software so anything you need there's a video for it on RUclips..Its better than the 707 and its $700..So its $300 dollars cheaper than the 707.
Different beast. Fewer tracks. More focused on light arrangement and song production with vocal recording and effects being a core part of what it does. 707 is a better performance machine IMO. it's a better groovebox.
I really liked the MC-707 too but that screen is just too small. I really wish they had put a bigger screen on it or a video out for a monitor screen connection. :-(
I was at CES in Las Vegas right before covid hit and Roland had a booth there. I met the product rep guy Peter (shown in this video) and told him the same thing. I held my iPhone up to where the screen on the MC-707 is and said "See this should have been bigger, had tilt for different view angles, and touch screen". He looked shocked like I was speaking alien but he took a picture of it and said he's show the higher ups.
I hope they: add an undo function, increase the pattern size limit to 999 measures, let you save synth patches independent of the project, sample to the SD card, open MIDI messages to allow a full featured synth editor, enable ext MIDI keyboard to use the chord and scale functions. Otherwise it's perfect 😂
the nardwuar of gear-heads ) just kidding. feeling your reviews deeply man - thats the way to look and listen to our beloved arsenal of equipment. respect
because those are completely different beasts, but yet great on their fields. You see - MC707 is as bad sampler as MPC Live (for example) is. On the other side - I really don't know why MPC Live is called ... Live :-) MC707 with faders the way the workflow is layout is far better "live" tool.
Hahha my man said the Fugees breaking up lol. I'd like to pretend like I like the MC707 but as a TR8S owner I feel like Roland slapped us in the face. We've been asking for a few basic updates for a good long while from Roland and they just ignored us and gave all the love to the MC707.... on top of that the MC707 does everything the TR8S does. So it's like why do I even own this thing anymore?
@@AJWise lol, that thing is WHACK. I mean don't get me wrong the TR8S is still a drum banging beast but it's like come on Roland you gave the MC707 the same goodies and then some but with pads and all those features.
I had been waiting on Roland to drop this MC follow up Groovebox. With modern features and sounds for 20 years! It lacks a song mode and there are just TOo many sounds - not trying to browse 3.000 + presets on that small lcd screen - Roland was really close with this one-- they still managed to f-- it up tho, I can’t justify buying that for dawless use
As usual Roland wrecking amazing machines with hardware constraints to finally (after the price drops years later) make some firmware updates and get the things it should had in the release (like Mv1). This machine was what Novation Circuit news should had been (the tracks and the other) but also it isn't what Roland should had released (in fact the Toraiz seems more Roland thant Roland even with no firmware updates never loool). Then you put few ram on this mc707 alongside that joke of screen... and ask for 1k... wtf Roland? When this machine get lower at price it will be perfect for modders who will probably expand the internal memory (after crack the chips probably custom by Roland), then add a proper screen or VGA/HDMI output (maybe Roland will give Zenbeats support to this?) like people did with Mpcs and jjOSXL...
Its not a sampler really its a full blown synthesizer and prolly the best multifx unit ever made thing has all the boss pedals and their iconic tape echo all inside that box. Put it with a midi keyboard and let the legendary roland synths games begin. They had the mc909 for them hip hop jungle guys but it got shadowed by the mpc 4000 so they prolly said fffk it lets aim to the techno house dudes🤣 i aint never changing my mpc x and 4000 i can make 3hrs live techno.with my mpc x and a tr8s oh i am a techno dude.🤣 I have a juno a jdxa and a system 8 for them roland synths. But this could be a very good solution if ya into strictly hypnotic dub techno with em short atmospheres and aggreassive basslines with bit of emo pads. Its a killer box there. I know dudes make 1hr sets with it on that dub sound. But for other genres. Hm..also the sound vs tr8s and mpc.. is less. Comes.more.hot outside and you can hear it too on the final mix. But job well.done roland for making a memorabilia box and a killer effector all in one.

Compare the Force 3.0 versus 3.0.6 and that is 100% a whole new machine. Akai has been more responsive to users than Native Instruments or Roland have ever been imo.
I think Akai does good when it comes to listening to customers..I just hope Roland continues to listen.. They have a habit of getting you hyped up then deserting you once they put out a new piece of gear.
@@DyReckProductions This. Roland isn't known for long-terms support. Once they got something new out they get ADHD type quick.
@@apoclypse I'm not in US. Akai won't answer my tickets asking for repair. I tried everywhere, even sent a letter. 1 month and nothing. Native Instruments I've had a problem with a Maschine and their repaired for free, no questions, just sent the ticket to the support and done.
Guitar center online has them used for around $750-$800 , sometimes you can catch them cheaper than that. And you got 45 days to return it if you dont like it Lol
The firmware updates have really improved its value #MC101 #MC707 #Roland #Dawless #DyReck_Productions
Dude you gotta do what happened to thee Akai Advance controller keyboard.
Lol. True..I wanted one when it first came out.
I lucked out and got mine for $750. The faceplate is slightly lifted on one corner though, imma fix it. I love that thing.
You should do one on Yamaha SU700 that's my machine till this day. Wish Yamaha update a new SU700.
Yes, and the RS7000. Yamaha really needs to get on the ball.
@@omannpro haven't heard nothing from Yamaha new groove box. Wonder why.
@@tekbeatz I think they just stepped out the game. Truth be told those two boxes can still stand up to all the new stuff. Su700 has the best sampling workflow ever and the RS sequencer still hasn't been duplicated. By the way love your music.
I feel u.
Rad, new DyReck! Speaking of the Roland Groove series, do you plan on covering more grooveboxes like the MC303/505, or some of the early Korg Electribes?
Just did a video on the 808..Im thinking of doing one on the 505 pretty soon.
@@DyReckProductions Oh dope, gotta check that out! Just got a 303 for a stupid deal, and I'm getting real curious about the other ones. Keep cranking out the bangers, my dude.
@@terminalglimmer No doubt fam.
ayyye thats my homie at the beginning...pete is cool af
Lol. No doubt.
Dope machine, classic roland sound kits plus a sampler in one unit and can be found at a good price.
Yup.
@@DyReckProductions ✋
Thanks ....very entertaining 👏
I really appreciate 🙏 your work
Thanks fam!
Very nice presentation!
Thanks fam.
Boombap Art and Accurate Beats dropped a Hip hop vid for this unit, this unit is solid , like the old tr808 very addictive !
So up next The Yamaha RS 7000 drop that " wat happened was "........
Lol. No doubt.
I saw this video in my recommendations and I was like dayum didn't Roland just release this last year. What did they muck up this time?
Lol.
this man could sell me on the features of a mcdouble
Lmao!
@@DyReckProductions
Alright, is the 707 pretty easy for someone that has made beats using a beat machine to understand.
@@DyReckProductions
Alright cool thanks for your help!!
@@carlos_mann Np.
Why not go with the Verselab?
Different beast. Fewer tracks. More focused on light arrangement and song production with vocal recording and effects being a core part of what it does.
707 is a better performance machine IMO. it's a better groovebox.
@@strangersun7721 That makes sense but you got 8 tracks on that one too? I think Verselab is better for vocals and songs creation sketch pad
@WAXO THE FOOL Bullshit, it depends on what you would like to do. Garbage with integration to Zenbeats too
I really liked the MC-707 too but that screen is just too small. I really wish they had put a bigger screen on it or a video out for a monitor screen connection. :-(
Video monitor out would be dope.
I might just cop
I feel u.
Lol I feel you.
i agree!! all these corporate always demo edm music instead of hip hop with their new products ...
Lol. Yup.
Make sure y’all check out that Zen core engine 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Roland fucked up again.
Lol.
the nardwuar of gear-heads ) just kidding. feeling your reviews deeply man - thats the way to look and listen to our beloved arsenal of equipment. respect
No doubt fam Thanks.
There was never comparison to the rest of the MC lineup? That's weird? MV was more along the lines of MPC
True.
because those are completely different beasts, but yet great on their fields. You see - MC707 is as bad sampler as MPC Live (for example) is. On the other side - I really don't know why MPC Live is called ... Live :-) MC707 with faders the way the workflow is layout is far better "live" tool.
That's Peter from Roland.
Yeah man.
Get a Beringer RD-8.
Lol. I feel u.
@@AJWise lol, that thing is WHACK. I mean don't get me wrong the TR8S is still a drum banging beast but it's like come on Roland you gave the MC707 the same goodies and then some but with pads and all those features.
One thing TR8s and 6s have that MC-707 does not is the FM drum synth engine. But I hear you.
🤬😡 IM VERY UPSET RIGHT NOW!! IM PUTTING THAT THING BACK IN THE BOX AND SENDING IT BACK. AND SEND THIS. ITS WHAT I 🤔 THOUGHT I WAS GETTING!!!!!!
Lamo!
They should have made the sampling and editing and chopping much better. This is a huge disappointment!
They dont have too much sampling options..Its enough to get by..But I feel you for $1,000 It should have more.
The MC 707!!!!
I thought they added an update where you could link all the sequences.
Loved the MV. Rather had one of them.
Lol Yeah Roland is a strange company.. Always doing only what they want to do..And alot of times forgetting about the customer.
Yeah Roland did a good job with this..Much better than the Verselab.
i really like the mc 707. ill probably be using it till they come out with a better one.
Its pretty dope.
Asr pro x is next please
Lol. I feel u.

MOTIF next, Kronos next
The Kronos is nice.

Lol. No doubt.
They needed a MPC live screen
That would be dope!
