@@zickozick I think Zoom gets trashed unfairly. I still use my nearly 20 year old PS02 Palmtop Studio. It's a digital 4 track recorder with built in emulator coupled with drum programming and on board bass guitar programming. It's not simple to program drums, etc, but the emulator for effects and amps are easy to edit and fully customizable. It was far more advanced than Korg or Boss equivalent units. It also still sounds better than newer emulator devices, so I decided to update it with the G3N. As others have said, forget the factory presets. Zoom shines when you're programming your own patches.

Does G5N have more processing power? I mean will patches that would overload G3XN still work in G5N or is it simply more convenient with more buttons and so on?
I have both G5N and G3X (old one) G5N has more processing power for sure but runs out of processing power also pretty quick, infact I think quicker than the G3X, it's a tough choice so I bought both. G3X is more fun at times because you can shift patches while looping, on G5N the looper is within the patch (Zoom should have made it global) so you can't shift patches while looping, there are pros and cons to both units, if i had to choose one I'll go with the G5N it has a little more juice compared to the G3X. Hope my feedback helps. I suggest choose between the old G3X and the New G5N, as the new G3N has lost the USB ability, plus the DI out, which even the new G5N does not have.

G5N 9 effects can be used as once, but once you use an Amp simulator the processor overloads with just about 4-5 effects, this is a big negative and limiting. In terms of processing power i think Zoom has done something to make their existing sounds better, like even the drum loop sound fuller with a more rounded at bottom end, G5N should have had more processing power / Looper as Global parameter and DI out, it would have been the ultimate processor BUT that din't happen.

Well, the G3 version had some problems with the "direct recording" function. I was getting a weird high pitch ringing when I was using the USB. I don't believe that it's from the grounding or something like it, as my other USB powered audio interface it's working fine. And I've seen that other people noticed the same issue with it. If they did it as they didn't want to provide a product with this kind of issues, it's understandable.
I purchase this Zoom G3Xn but to my great disappointment I found out that there is no way to use the "Volume pedal" as a master volume for the G3Xn witch for me is an impossible gearbox to use in live contest. imagine that when I switch from one patch (acoustic patch) to another(solo patch) and I have my volume pedal half way down it almost broken the speaker and went on feedback because when I switched it raise the volume to the original patch volume with several decibel louder than it should be. I will returned back to the shop. I was not so impressed of the sound as well, notice that I use today the Zoom G2.1u witch sounds ok but is to sharp on the top frequencies especially on the Acoustic simulation. :(

It's basically the same as the g5n, just with less dsp, less connections, less screens etc. The overall tone of the 'n' series is better, more organic sounding, compared to the usual zoom g3/5 pedals. The rest of the information can easily be found only.

G3n And G3 Xn don t have an audio interface , but the G5n has. The G3n sounds way better thnat the G3 ( i tested both and kept the g3n) G3n G3Xn and G5n sounds the same , but G5n has 9 effects usable at the same time , against 7 for the G3n and G3Xn . Hope it helps.
Eric Ellis the helix is better, but unless you are seriously hugging, having 1300 bucks tied up in a unit is weak. I just got rid of my helix and bought one of these to replace it. Done playing live for a while

Zoom has brighter tones than the previous models. IMO, it sounds better with a 7 strings but sounds meh with a 6 strings. 😔

No you can not use it as an interface, but you can edit/import/Export patches with the usb connection. If you want that feature, go for the zoom g5n.
