I use stevia, monk fruit, and allulose because my sweet tooth trumps savory foods. If I used sugar every time I baked/ate something, my energy would crash and my dental health would careen downhill! Thank you for not demonizing them or saying that you automatically have food rules by using them. For me, they're a form of gentle nutrition.
The thing is, if they help you calorie control and keep you satisfied rather than having cereal with a bunch of sugar and calories then they are absolutely healthy. Healthy is whatever you can stick to, to keep the weight off. I've been in the fitness industry for over a decade and absolutely preach, the best diet is the one you can stick to and magic spoon is an enabler for me so I absolutely consider it healthy.
Still not healthy. Maybe you're looking for the words "healthier alternative". Kind of like full-sugar soda is a healthier alternative to toxic sludge. Still doesn't make soda healthy.
Listening to you, I got reminded of the pink Himalayan salt scam. Which it is. It's just marketing. What I realised, especially in most recent years, is that we just need to pay attention to the food we buy & NEVER trust the marketing claims

I love Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Applejacks! Unfortunately my doctor says I have a fatty liver and need to cut down on my sugar intake, and having a bowl of cereal is part of my morning, every morning. I decided to order some of this Magic Spoon cereal to find out if it works for me, as I absolutely do not want to have to eat Corn Flakes or something else unappealing every morning.
And? What’s the result? Lmaooo. Cinnamon toast was one of my faves! There’s a maple one t at stores like sprouts. Also some major grocers. MUCH healthier than MS. And wayyyy cheaper. Hey, love your videos, they have really changed my life! Could you please elaborate on why you shouldn't track protein? I've been doing intuitive eating for about a month and a half and I'm finally completely binge-free! However, I intensely strength train around 5 days a week and am still cautious about meeting my protein goals to build muscle. If I don't track protein, and specifically add high protein things that I don't specifically crave, even after I am full, I hardly ever meet anywhere near the recommended amount. How can I go about getting around this? I want to have even more food freedom but my goals are still important to me. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi - socieaty member here but not expert - but Colleen typically says that most people don’t need to track protein and we can go off of how we feel. And she also says to add protein to your meals, not necessarily looking at the grams but making sure there’s a protein source. However for someone who is doing way more strength training than the average person and your intentions for tracking protein are a bit different, I think it would be fine as long as it’s not obsessive
Just have some whey protein isolate every day. If you are trying to build muscle and aren't naturally eating enough protein, it's an easy way to get it. I mix it in my coffee every morning. Figure out how much protein you tend to eat, then you'll have an idea how much you need.
Howdy, Mrs. Colleen. I actually tried this cereal today, and it's alright. I mainly bought it because I'm trying to lose weight by cutting back on carbohydrates & sugar. Usually when I buy cereal, I go for the General Mills stuff by the bag, since it lasts longer. Would Magic Spoon be a good substitute for helping out with weight loss? 🤔 Trying to go from 250+ down to 230, with no set timeframe. Just trying to get there. 😅
The first time I tried magic spoon I had the same relation as you but the next time it dawned on me how bad they were and by the third time could not continue eating them lol. I’d rather just have the cereal I want and a protein shake on the side 🤣
Trick I got from a mommy blog was to put the cereal in yogurt instead of milk for more protein, longer crunch, and if you want to add fruit for extra fiber it doesn't just sink to the bottom! I like honey or plain Greek but you do you
fab video, and first one of yours I have seen. Food rules.... yeah, I've been forming a lot of them. Type 2, just got a continuous glucose monitor and I've been marvelling at the feedback, enjoying the ability to make food and exercise choices, when I can see in short order how that is affecting my blood sugar. I don't believe these "rules" will last, but for now I'm trying to make myself eat better, and trying to figure out what I can do long term and feel OK about, to keep my diabetes under control. and no.... I think I've decided Magic Spoon is a pass. too expensive!
I actually still buy cereal. Less then once a month but I dont get hooked in by pretty colours & sugar. Just give me wholegrain, fibre with bits of fruit + cocoa/cinnamon & Im a happy man for the 2 bowls I'll be in the mood for during the month. Might also check on low calorie cereal. I see magic spoon listing all the things it doesn't contain & my brain goes.. "Wait, what are you made of? 🤨"
Fruitty Pebbles with the Lucky Charms marshmallows. Yes please. We had Froot Loops growing up, but it was WAY sweeter than FP, and really intense. had to be in the mood for FP. I'm not a raisin in my foods kinda gal. I used to shake the box to settle the raisins. no raisins in my cereal. As an adult, I cut the sugary cereal with All Bran Buds.
my issue isn't that I like sweets. I kind of generally don't like sweet things but I need a VERY quick breakfast which I used to do with protein bars, usually GoMacro these days. If I had time I would prefer a fried egg with toast and maybe halal turkey bacon. Last week I was on holiday and didn't eat it, then also didn't find it in store and somehow I found myself feeling healthier by switching to a different bar that I had but which didn't taste as good. I want to know is it a good replacement for GoMacro or similar protein bars.
Cheerios is not the same as having some maybe oats or granola with some fruits and yogurt. Even if the calories content is the same, one has much more nutrients that the other one, and less refined sugar Don't what to hate or anything, but "food is just food?" not all food is created equal, a BigMac is just food, calories, but is not healthy. Ye it has a ton of calories but this is not even the problem, it lacks nutrients. Fish also has a lot of calories, but it has nutrients. Chocolate, gummy bears, or a Starbucks "coffee" is not just food, it is a bunch of sugar in it, we as humans do not need "sugar" to survive, we do need carbs, even if process sugar and a banana have "carbs" it is not the same, one has nutrients the other is just energy
I tried it and it was not for me. I loved the idea but the taste didn’t agree with my taste buds. I’m going to stick to my regular childhood cereal. 🤷🏻♀️ guilt free
There are no essential dietary carbohydrates for healthy people. You only "need carbs to survive" if you have rare genetic diseases. Most people, by definition, do not have rare genetic diseases.
Now that I know this crap has cricket powder protein in it, I will never eat it again. At the bottom of the box, it states that there is a bioengineered ingredient. So...all I had to do was look...and there it was. Crickets. Why not list this in the ingredients? Oh, I know, because their sales would fall. Glad I only had one bowl of it.
This cereal is made with ground up crickets, which should be posted on the front of the box. The CEO should be ashamed of himself for selling this garbage for that kind of money
Correction: You do not need to eat carbohydrates because your body can make all the carbs you could possibly need through a process called gluconeogenesis. If you really were a registered dietician you would know that.
Fewer carbs does,in fact, equal better. As humans we need very few carbs to survive. Carbs are fine but most people eat way too many. So in that way, this cereal might be ok.
We technically don't need any carbs, but I will argue for fiber. But this "registered dietitian" is woefully behind the current science surrounding low carb, as, unfortunately, many dietitians are. She's holding on to a 40-year outdated nutritional plan that has proven that it does NOT work for a lot of people, especially diabetics and those with insulin resistance.
As soon as you stressed that you were registered a dietitian several times, I pretty much knew you were going to give a bunch of poor information rooted in outdated nutritional guidelines. The body needs fat. The body needs protein. The body does NOT need carbohydrates. And this is becoming more and more clear every year. The only carb I will argue for is fiber. Not only has keto quickly proven it's one of the best diets for type 1 and 2 diabetics, it has also been proven that keto can be sustainable long-term with no adverse health effects. It's only as restrictive as you make it. Net carbs is just a term to separate impactful carbohydrates from non-impact carbohydrates. The UK recognizes net carbs, and the net carb number is what they use on their nutritional labels. Did you know that Miss Dietitian? I really wish dietitians like yourself would catch up to the science and the rest of the world. You guys are still spouting 40-year outdated nutritional information that hurts more than it helps.
