I feel like they’re doing great for Japanese manufacturer that has to cope with Japanese market (which has long been different from American market until very recently). Samsung and other cool Chinese brands finally started to take over the android market in Japan, so I hope they’ll find some ways to focus on it better in near future. Though honestly I feel like they’re going to sell Xperia brand like they did for their PC brand (Vaio) instead of investing more.

Marques or anyone who may need to hear this: go into the camera’s menu, go to HDMI settings, then switch “display hdmi info” to off. This will put the phone into full screen mode, and it will turn your camera’s screen back on. You’ll have those touch screen controls back. At least this is how it works on my A7iii and external monitor!
Also you could try pressing the "display" button on the camera to cycle through various overlay options. On certain cameras this will make the monitor feed full screen.

At this point, Sony Mobile doesn't care if they don't sell much, they have stopped caring about profits since probably 5 years ago, they just want to make phones for the real enthusiasts.
If that would actually been the case they would not have chosen that stupid aspect ratio. Or at least found some innovative way to use the screen real estate in a way that actually gives you some advantage over the usage of the camera display.

Honestly, this is a fucking terrible external monitor. You can get really good, professional-grade 7 inch monitor from SmallHD with SDI instead of micro-HDMI for $900, and there are plenty of other options for far less money. This is only good for streaming.

I love that Sony is willing to make crazy phones like this. They knew this would be a niche device that won't sell a ton of units, but they still put in the time and money to make it anyway. I think that's what I love most about Sony's mobile division: they make dope tech for the sake of making dope tech, they don't care if anyone buys it.
And that is why their mobile division will go burst soon. Zero marketing/hype, overly niche devices.....in the end, all these corporations are out to make money and eventually shutdown when the money stops coming in. It is so sad coz I love their phones....if only they'd be smarter and create mass appeal devices alongside their niche ones. I'd me more than happy to support them with my wallet.

I have never liked Sony, but at the moment, they’re really growing on me, Imagine if they ditched google and either adopted Linux across their entire range, or developed their own OS... they would kill it...
I love them. Their Xperias have great features, finally coming from Alpha cameras. But then it is this noodle design which is 50% of the time only black screen. I don't want that. I have problem with a notch! Why would I want 30% of my phone black glass? Even the "camera" material finish on thisone looks great. It's just the noodle and counterintuitivity of some of their apps. Everyone is like "I do ZEISS" optics... man if this has some cool camera software like Lightroom and enabled RAW, bam! Sold.
Ooof I completely forgot about that phone and it's outrages price tag for what was essentially one of the worst phones ever produced, came with a shitty gimmick and even the camera was asss.
There is an option in the HDMI output menu that gives you "clean image output" which means no menu output to the monitor. I mean it will still disable the touch to track function and all, but you get a bigger and cleaner picture on the "monitor".
I can see a lot of professional ENG videographers would be using this to send news items to their network ,having just a small setup instead of needing a whole truck or special backpack to send out the feed.
Honestly, the reason I am considering an Xperia is because I dont do photography, I dont watch movies on it, but I am always listening to music on it. Sony has been some of the best in the business when it comes to audiophile equipment and they probably have the best digital audio converters it the smartphone world. I prefer wired headphones just because blutooth can lose some fidelity because the blutooth headphones have the DAC in them, but wired headphones can use the DAC the phone came with. Apple is pretty good, most android is a little worse, but Sony has made a reputation with quality DACs. I want to see if their phones are good for music lovers but nobody talks about that :(

Kata as well. Theory of constraints + Kata skill and tool sets lead to some amazing results relative to those who flail. Although, not perfect. Took me two days, maybe three, to disconnect a connector behind the heater in my Toyota. The stupid connector was upside down, has about 1.5" around it (regular tools wouldn't fit), not visible while working on it (had to take video while failing to see how to improve the next round), and a general pain. Then again, their techs probably have a specific tool to release the connector, and they want to keep them busy, too (by not making it easy for me to work it myself).

It could probably be made thinner and to look better, compared to a phone with a case. Very rarely do I see a phone where its esthetics are improved with the addition of a case.

I love that Sony is willing to make crazy phones like this. They knew this would be a niche device that won't sell a ton of units, but they still put in the time and money to make it anyway. I think that's what I love most about Sony's mobile division: they make dope tech for the sake of making dope tech, they don't care if anyone buys it.

I love them. Their Xperias have great features, finally coming from Alpha cameras. But then it is this noodle design which is 50% of the time only black screen. I don't want that. I have problem with a notch! Why would I want 30% of my phone black glass? Even the "camera" material finish on thisone looks great. It's just the noodle and counterintuitivity of some of their apps. Everyone is like "I do ZEISS" optics... man if this has some cool camera software like Lightroom and enabled RAW, bam! Sold.

There is an option in the HDMI output menu that gives you "clean image output" which means no menu output to the monitor. I mean it will still disable the touch to track function and all, but you get a bigger and cleaner picture on the "monitor".
I can see a lot of professional ENG videographers would be using this to send news items to their network ,having just a small setup instead of needing a whole truck or special backpack to send out the feed.

Honestly, the reason I am considering an Xperia is because I dont do photography, I dont watch movies on it, but I am always listening to music on it. Sony has been some of the best in the business when it comes to audiophile equipment and they probably have the best digital audio converters it the smartphone world. I prefer wired headphones just because blutooth can lose some fidelity because the blutooth headphones have the DAC in them, but wired headphones can use the DAC the phone came with. Apple is pretty good, most android is a little worse, but Sony has made a reputation with quality DACs. I want to see if their phones are good for music lovers but nobody talks about that :(

@@R0D3R1CKV10L3NC3 Funny, but the usbc platform used in most phones today already supports what hdmi can do and more via dp and thunderbolt. But that doesn't matter cause apple is removing all ports with the iphone 13.
