I feel like they’re doing great for Japanese manufacturer that has to cope with Japanese market (which has long been different from American market until very recently). Samsung and other cool Chinese brands finally started to take over the android market in Japan, so I hope they’ll find some ways to focus on it better in near future. Though honestly I feel like they’re going to sell Xperia brand like they did for their PC brand (Vaio) instead of investing more.

I loved it, I still have it and it still holds battery pretty well and in good shape for a 9 year old phone.
I bought the Xperia Z ultra. 7 inch screen, 2013.still flawless. Kids use it.

Honestly, the reason I am considering an Xperia is because I dont do photography, I dont watch movies on it, but I am always listening to music on it. Sony has been some of the best in the business when it comes to audiophile equipment and they probably have the best digital audio converters it the smartphone world. I prefer wired headphones just because blutooth can lose some fidelity because the blutooth headphones have the DAC in them, but wired headphones can use the DAC the phone came with. Apple is pretty good, most android is a little worse, but Sony has made a reputation with quality DACs. I want to see if their phones are good for music lovers but nobody talks about that :(
I think that’s a little overboard to buy this phone for marginally better audio possibly. If you don’t have a Sony camera idk why you would get this phone.

Honestly, this is a fucking terrible external monitor. You can get really good, professional-grade 7 inch monitor from SmallHD with SDI instead of micro-HDMI for $900, and there are plenty of other options for far less money. This is only good for streaming.

Been using sony phones ever since upgrading from my iPhone 4s. They're incredible.
Been using the xz2 compact for 3 years. Abuse the hell out of it every day. It's been in the ocean, the pool, dropped a thousand times and I'm a welder by trade. I'm considering buying another since they're 150 used. I don't see another compact this cheap with similar specs at that price
Marques or anyone who may need to hear this: go into the camera’s menu, go to HDMI settings, then switch “display hdmi info” to off. This will put the phone into full screen mode, and it will turn your camera’s screen back on. You’ll have those touch screen controls back. At least this is how it works on my A7iii and external monitor!
Also you could try pressing the "display" button on the camera to cycle through various overlay options. On certain cameras this will make the monitor feed full screen.

Theory of constraints + Kata skill and tool sets lead to some amazing results relative to those who flail.
Although, not perfect. Took me two days, maybe three, to disconnect a connector behind the heater in my Toyota. The stupid connector was upside down, has about 1.5" around it (regular tools wouldn't fit), not visible while working on it (had to take video while failing to see how to improve the next round), and a general pain. Then again, their techs probably have a specific tool to release the connector, and they want to keep them busy, too (by not making it easy for me to work it myself).

@@toonlad4091 That's true. Cases do provide a lot of choice. But if the manufacturers integrated some more ruggedness into the phone itself, it would not need a case. It could probably be made thinner and to look better, compared to a phone with a case. Very rarely do I see a phone where its esthetics are improved with the addition of a case.

I love that Sony is willing to make crazy phones like this. They knew this would be a niche device that won't sell a ton of units, but they still put in the time and money to make it anyway. I think that's what I love most about Sony's mobile division: they make dope tech for the sake of making dope tech, they don't care if anyone buys it.

Zero marketing/hype, overly niche devices.....in the end, all these corporations are out to make money and eventually shutdown when the money stops coming in. It is so sad coz I love their phones....if only they'd be smarter and create mass appeal devices alongside their niche ones. I'd me more than happy to support them with my wallet.

@@lolpartyparrot exactly.. Imo, this Pro is very niche, the 1ii, not so. It's like every other smartphone except has a good camera app. Most people I know don't go to Sony due to age old complaints that don't even apply to the 1 or 1ii.
Besides that, glass back? Sony had it since Xperia Z, people hated it, but soon others adopted and now everyone else loved it. High MP camera's? 'high MP doesn't do Jack shit', until other companies followed and now, only 12mp? Ewww.. Side mounted fingerprint sensor? Soooooo many people dissed the Z3 until XZ phones. Then now, every companies are trying out side mounted fingerprint sensor in one way or another..

@@MAR-gq9wt yes they can, there are softwares that are built for that and they don’t need any additional port. iOS, Android all have them. And just name one streaming service that you have watched a 4K stream from.

I always thought Sony should've done this years ago. They have the phone tech, they have the camera/lense tech. Why not just buy the phone, buy an add on that connects to it, connect lenses and use a phone as essentially a DSLR. You get the benefits of all the hardware and software and storage of a phone, easily charged and you can connect through wifi or 4g with it. I thought that would be a great idea. Well now they're almost there. I wasn't thinking $2500 price tag though haha

This phone is actually really useful in our case since we use Sony Cameras to broadcast but want a monitor and a wireless video transmitter

actually, if the phone would be able to stream ALL HDMI Sources .. that is actually some things that would have some demographic (including myself)
but that would mean that the HDMI port always works as a video input natively.

Ooof I completely forgot about that phone and it's outrages price tag for what was essentially one of the worst phones ever produced, came with a shitty gimmick and even the camera was asss.

Terrible Gamer cameras were the only thing that phone was expected to be good at and it was barely midrange level
I'll be honest- as a filmmaker myself this would be an easy sell if it was $1,000 cheaper and if the phone wasn't so vertical. When you finally do use it as a viewfinder, half the phone screen is black because it's way too narrow to have the full DSLR image take up the whole screen.

I did just get and Xperia 5 III a week ago, just the built in camera features were a big draw (and it was discounted to 600€ (inc taxes) and headphone jack is a must.
With that pro design it would be a 9/10 phone for me.
Last 1 point would be for user removable battery.
Every company should be slapped if their product has a "Pro" on it and it isn't this dedicated to professional uses.
