  • I have bought a trailer for Optimus Prime. It's a GTB 1200 T2 enclosed trailer with lid and ramp. The price with all the accessories is 48k NOK (approx €5000/$5000). The box measures 251x126x118 cm = 3.73 m³.
    Average consumption in 80 km/h, 50 mph was around 350 Wh/km on a P90D and 22" wheels.

    Suggestion: Floor adhesion sand-like additive to the white paint; ask your paint provider. Better holding for tie-downs.

    This is a cool trailer. Pricy, but cool. I find it a bit small myself, with about a 8 x 5 x 5 foot box. However it does a lot of neat tricks. The flip top roof, with side rails on the roof to allow for additional external load carrring capacity, the flexible cargo ring tie down installation, quick simple stabilizer jacks and the rear ramp and latches. It looks like a pretty stout trailer by the way it’s constructed. Ideally set up for hauling small fright loads to smaller destinations such as residences or small merchants. But it really needs to be color matched to Optimus Prime. The silver wheels are fine but paint the sides blue and polish the roof rail to match the window trim of Optimus, and paint the trailer tongue black or blue. Classy trailer for a classy tow car.

    hi Bjorn
    being a single axle trailer as well, you will have less rolling resistance than the double axle, plus its easier to turn when moving the trailer by hand,

    V good choice. This size of trailer would be enough. I'm sure there would be interesting videos coming ahead of trips with this this trailer. Exited to watch them.

    Is there a parking leg on the right hand side of the trailer too? You only showed the left side.
    EDIT: Looked at the Nebbenes video. I see the RHS leg.

      TassieEV1 The point of the wire is not to hold the whole trailer. The wire is connected to the brakes which will deply.

    In USA made by:
    Wells Cargo known as the MPT (Multi Purpose Trailer) which is single axle and has the truck topper (with lift shocks) as we call it and ramp rear door, comes in two sizes and larger size has two optional height options, with gvwr (grand vehicle weight rating) of 1100 lbs/499 kg for small and 2750 lbs/1247.4 kg for larger size. No roof rack option or recommended.
    Featherlite Trailers called Mod Pod (model 1609) is also a similar design to WC-MPT but different construction, though lift top and ramp door and offered in two lengths (8 ft/2.4 m & 10 ft/3 m)and two heights (4 ft/1.2m & 5 ft/1.5 m respective to length), at weights of 1,000 lb/453.6 kg and 1,200 lbs/544.3 kg gvw. Optional Roof Rack (factory install or approved after market).
    Then of course there are other manufacturers and offers, then also standard trailers with just rear doors that have single axle and range from 2,000 lbs (907 kg) upwards of 4,000 lbs (1814 kg) going to dual axle four wheels for 5,000 lbs (2268 kg).
    Torsion Axle is adequate but not soft, you were wise to upgrade your trailer suspension.

    The wedges that keep wheels from moving are called chocks in English, from the old French words çouche, çoche meaning ‘block, log.’

    I like the trailer......Did you say it has brakes? How do they work?

    • @AntonEMaes
      @AntonEMaes 8 лет назад

      As far as I've seen when the trailer pushes on the hitch (like when the car is braking) there's a mechanism which activates the brakes. Beyond that it varies.
      For bigger trailers I think it's electronic

    • @bilzoo20001
      @bilzoo20001 8 лет назад

      It looks like the trailer has surge brakes, like you said, but the model x does have outputs for electronic trailer brakes.

    • @mibars
      @mibars 8 лет назад

      Tongue has a spring and cables going to brakes. The harder the trailer tongue pushes against hitch the more the brakes engage. So it will always push at least a little against towing vehidle. Also.... For backing up you have to lock the tongue so brakes will not lock up as you push it back.

  • @mibars
    @mibars 8 лет назад

    Regarding slipstream - I believe that Model X "shadow" is at height of deck lid, not the roof. so it is really hard to find a trailer that would fit in there :) And cool fact: Trailer close to back of vehicle reduces drag caused by vehicle by reducing low pressure zone
    Regarding backup camera: You can hook it using two diodes to both backup light and marking lights so that you don't have to switch on your lights to have backup camera. That's what I did in my wagon so that I can look at tailgaters when I have my lights on :)

    Tesla needs to make a flat bed trailer with batteries and motorised wheels with the car controlling the trailer motor to reduce drag and assist in regenerative braking. The battery base would also act as a range extender. Releasing it as just a flat bed would mean that people could custom build the trailer to their needs (trailer, camping, horse float etc).

    You could paint the trailer a matching deep blue color of Optimus Prime. Paint places know how to scan and color match. Then with the logo it would look like Tesla made them together.

    If you really like to have a white floor in the trailer, I would recommend that you put a white linoleum floor in, and secure it with good quality double sided tape. Paint will only get scratched up and look like shiiiiiet. ;-)

    Add solar on top of trailer

    • @AntonEMaes
      @AntonEMaes 8 лет назад +1

      Unfortunately solar panels only supply about 300w per square meter. Also at those latitudes flat panels aren't going to be very effective. You might get another 5-10 miles per day out of an array that small.

    you should not have mechanical brakes on a little trailer like this. You will not have the benefit of power regeneration from the trailer this way. I would see if i can disable the mechanical brakes on the trailer when pulling it.

    • @subwarpspeed
      @subwarpspeed 8 лет назад

      Pretty sure it would be illegal to disable the brakes and frankly stupid. If he doesn't do too strong regenbraking the trailer's brakes won't engage too much and he get's the regen

    • @peterpold
      @peterpold 8 лет назад

      the legality depends usually on the trailer weight. Of course if he does not do regen braking then the trailerbrake will not engage either. The trailerbrake will always engage when the car in front of it slows down It is the deaigh of the trailerbrake that does this.

    • @subwarpspeed
      @subwarpspeed 8 лет назад

      Peter Pold Can't speak for Norwegian laws but Swedish which are probably similar. It's a registered trailer and as it is register saying it should have brakes, it should have them (functioning).
      What I mean was, is the trailer brakes really so finely calibrated that they engage equally proportionally to a "mild" braking?
      I just don't see the benefit of some extra regen braking compared to the loss actual brakes on the trailer for emergencies.

    • @subwarpspeed
      @subwarpspeed 8 лет назад

      Peter Pold I checked into the laws for Norway. A trailer of this size (at least loaded) would not be permitted to drive faster than 60 km/h if it has no brakes.
      Section 13.5

      maybe somebody will make trailer with regenerative braking in the future. In the US trailers have electrically activated brakes which you can turn down or turn off.
