Wiatold Pilecki was the Polish officer who deliberately got sent to Auschwitz. His mossion was to find out what was going on in the camps. He escaped and reported to the Allies and they wouldn't believe him, they thought the poles were trying to manipulate them. He was an extraordinarily brave hero.

I'm french, and I entirely share your opinion. Polish history and culture are impressive, I wish my people had the same patriotism. Here in France if you say you like the french history you are called a fascist. It is frowned upon to possess a flag or show that you love the country. People, especially migrants burn the flag on a regular basis, and you can go to jail if you act against them, even if it is only verbally.
I wish I was born a pole, these people have a good head on their shoulders. They understand that it is common sense to love your country and its people. They are not plagued by self hatred and they have a sense of belonging as a people, which is not the case anymore for western europe.
I'm currently trying to learn polish too, this is challenging, but definitely interesting !

One thing I need to clarify - Polish patriots were chanting "Polak w Polsce gospodarzem", which means "Polish man in Poland is a HOST" but you translated it to "MASTER". Watch the Polish film Hatred, then understand how the pro-Russian Ukrainian population have been treated since the end of the USSR, before repeating 'Slava Ukraini'. What is happening there is simply a Russian police action. My Polish mother and grandmother were both sent on a one way trip to Siberia in 1940 by the Russians, so I'm hardly pro-Russian.

The anchor on the armband is a symbol of Polish resistance. It contains letters "P" and "W" which stand either for "Polska walcząca" (you can translate it to "fighting Poland") or "Pomścimy Wawer" ("We shall avenge Wawer"), in reference to the 1939 Wawer massacre, which was considered to be one of the first large scale massacres of Polish civilians by German troops in occupied Poland.

We Polish people don’t hate Russian people on the merit of them being Russian, but because of the imperialistic mindset still present in many Russian people and we have seen this prove itself evident in the Russian people’s support for this war. It begs the question that if Russians are capable of doing this to their true Eastern Orthodox brothers of which your blood is shared, what would you be willing to do to us Poles or to our friends in the Baltic nations? Prior to the war in Ukraine, being fellow Slavs I viewed Russians quite favorably, but having seen street interviews conducted in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, amongst others since the start of the fratricidal war in Ukraine, the vast majority of Russian citizens have done little in the way of making themselves appear sympathetic, with their biggest concern being sanctions and not the war between brothers being fought in the steppe. I think of Pilsudski’s quote - “Russia is an Asian beast hiding behind a European mask." Because I mentioned those three major cities, I will add my own anecdotal observation and say that it appeared to me that the people of Novosibirsk were far less apolitical compared to their counterparts in Russia’s two largest cities, but as stated this is only anecdotal based on a small sample size of course.

The fact that some people see Russian imperialism is the result of western propaganda. Russians don't want war. They want peace and security. But when one country attacks another, and all peace negotiations fail or play to your disadvantage, then there is no choice but to invade this country and overthrow their government to make it stop. But if you know that this country will keep being used for that purpose, then you have to occupy it's territory as well. That's unfortunately how war works, and invaded country and it's allies will do everything to portray the invader as the aggressor, disregarding their previous aggression. And in the world with so many lies, determining who started it first might be the hardest thing to do for some people. They are simply hiding facts from you. But when Ukraine started to "de-russify" them, and wanted to join NATO so that they could get away with it, that is when the citizens of these territories who still disagree with that policty and didn't choose it, wanted to separate to save their land. That is when Ukraine started to attack them, and in the process attacking Russia as well in it's territority, spying, doing acts of terror and assassinations. Because they believed that it's all Russia who is responsible for that their own people hate them, and want to be friends with Russia. But that is not true, Russia was hesitating to enter until 2022, which it considers a mistake now, as it should've been started earlier. Ukraine is full of absurdly nationalistic ideas, where it sees Russia as the source of all of their problems. Despite the fact how much Russia actually gave them. And if you dig even deeper, then you could see that this is all for the benefit of NATO, to fully separate Ukraine from the Russian civilisation, also known as the Russian world. USA have orchestrated a coup in 2014, where the radical minority took power. There is a leaked phone call of how they choose the president of Ukraine. They manipulate the propaganda inside the country. And now they don't hesitate to send them all to war, because it's slavic people. My wife and myself visited Poland in 2014 as part of a school trip my son made with his band to the sister city of our town in the US. I was very impressed with Poland in general and the Polish people in particular. They are proud of their nation and they have good reason to be. For 400 years (probably longer) Poland's neighbors have actively tried to suppress or eliminate Polish Culture, language and even religious beliefs. Despite that the Poles prevailed and now are one of the strongest states in the EU. God bless them for their perseverance.
We also saw Auschwitz while we were there. It was a cold, cloudy day right after about six inches of snow had fallen. It was a particularly striking contrast when we walked into Auschwitz I and II. It was almost black and white there. I have a few pictures from the trip and they are haunting. My wife hated it and even mentioning going there distresses her ten years later. It was the most singularly depressing place I have ever been in my life. It was stark, black and white. There was NO sound. Not a bird chirped 75 years later. It was important that I went and it is important that everyone goes there.
I personally think that all meetings of heads of state should take place there. Maybe it will give them a perspective on how decisions made can have ramifications that are horrific beyond the original concept.

We are quite literally the border between two completely different worlds that cannot seem to coexist no matter how much time passes. And no matter which side we fight on, we will always be the first defenders, first victims, or the first sacrifice. It has been so through history and it will probably continue to be so until the day we are no longer here.
And the only time this has not been the case in the past, the only time when Poland was allowed to grow big and prosper, our neighbors didn't want to have any of that and conspired against us to erase our country from existence. Not one, but twice. Yeah, I don't know a single country in the world that has been screwed this hard, repeatedly, literally disappeared from the map twice, and still somehow survived all that and preserved their history and culture despite everybody trying to damn hard to erase all of it for such a long time. I have the deepest respect for my ancestors, for they have been truly extraordinary people to make all of this happen.
So you'll have to excuse me if I don't trust any of our neighbors after history have proven time and time again we have no true friends. @@RiskOfBaer Every relationship consits of two sides. When you realized that your relationships with your neighbours are literally always shitty, have you maybe considered that you are also being a shitty neighbour? What are these two worlds that don't seem to coexist, where Poland is in between? Do you mean Slavic peoples and Germans? Because that is not true. Germans at times got along great with Russia, had very normal sometimes bad but mostly decent relations with Czechs, Slovacs, Croats ect.
Historically the problem with Poland is that they always punch way above their weight and they never have allies that actually show up for them. Sometimes it's France or the UK who just support Poland to troll Germany but would never bother to actually send troops to protect Poland. Another times Poland was allied with Prussia, but when the Russians invaded Poland, the Prussians just did not bother to help. Definitely a shitty move from the Prussians but then again, Prussia actually did have good relations with Russia at that time and the Prussians and Poles never really liked each other anyway.
I agree that Poland has a cursed starting position being sandwiched between Russia and Germany/Austria. But Poland is also phenomenally bad at diplomacy, after thousands of years of existence, fucking hungary is the only other country you consider friendly. That's sad.

It's hard sometimes to understand nuances between patriotism and nationalism. Poles are generally very patriotic people. This kind of patriotism doesn't exist anywhere but in Poland. There might be some groups of people who are nationalists, but they don't represent the majority of Poles.
In my opinion, all this can not be simplified. The whole historic, religious and cultural context needs to be understood. Without the background, patriotism might be perceived as nationalism. nationalism.

It's also worth mentioning that Law and Justice and Bosak's Konfederacja are not the main opponents in Polish politics - quite the contrary. Those are merely the two right-wing parties represented in the parliament. Centre and left wing folks almost universally distance themselves from the march. You won't find neither the other parties' emblems, nor the voters. It may seem odd to "boycott" independence day celebrations in a way, but keep in mind that those marches have never been an official state-led event, even though the Law and Justice party embraced them fully while they were in power.

I'm sorry, but no matter the real logistics of the matter, us Brits did betray Poland! We tried very hard, and so too did the Poles in the RAF and Army. Churchill tried his hardest, but alas, it was really at the behest of Eisenhower and Stalin. Where the former was certainly too lenient with the latter, and gave them too much. If only we all stuck behind Poland, and the Western leaders had not cowed down to Stalin towards the end of the War.
However, to give your credence to your statement, in the 11th hour - operation unthinkable. 'Unthinkable' because ot would include the nuclear detonation of Eastern Europe. That is how low we would have to sink to make it possible in the end.
If only they had the forsight to restrict lend-lease and so on. The Western Allies could have done to the Soviets what the soviets did to the Warsaw uprising.
Sit back, watch your enemies annihilate each other, move in, and sweep up the remains.
