In Girl Meets World, there was too much ego with the writing. It just seemed like they thought they were so smart and were too stubborn in ever getting feedback.
That's exactly what I feel. Especially season 3 had so many episodes where the writers just tried too hard to seem profound, intelligent and poetic that you end up confused after the episode thinking, "Umm... what exactly were they trying to even say here??" There's also the fact that unlike BMW, this show always had a much more obvious "Older writers not understanding the younger generation" feeling to it.
@@AD240pCharlieexactly. And then the lessons he wants to teach never hits because they’re so surface level that when you think about it for a second it doesn’t work. One of the things he really wanted to say, was that people change people. However, in his own show when Maya changed, he painted it as a bad thing. What was the point of saying that Mayas change was a bad thing, if people change people? Do they change people for the worst? Do they change them for the better? Can people also not decide they want to change on their own? And this was never explored with any other character.
That's a problem when some grown ups write for children. He was complelely out of touch. Jacobs did well the first time and thought he was golden. NOT! He missed the real relationship that had the most impact...Shawn and Angela. That relationship overshadowed Cory and Topanga. I believe it was the reason Jacobs broke them up. Being on the Disney Channel also limited their topics. "Special Episodes" were going to be off limits. The two couples could have and should have coexisted. He was wrong.
@@NA86737 Actually sitcoms can have impact. Angela and Shawn was Jacobs' avenue to do so. Like the legendary Norman Lear creator of shows like Maude, All In The Family, Good Times and The Jeffersons. The Jeffersons features an interracial couple as co-stars. The first in television history. Roxie Roker played Helen Willis while Franklin Cover was her husband Tom Willis. Roxie Roker is the Rock musician Lenny Kravitz's Mother. Shawn and Angela didn't have to be the main focus, because Cory and Topanga are the stars of the show. Episodes focusing on Shawn, Angela and their issues would widen the audience also keeping the show fresh. Viewers would always have a reason to watch regularly. These things didn't happen and in my opinion left the audience disappointed leading to the ahow's demise.
the show would’ve been so much better if they weren’t physically trying to be a “girl” show. The old show had these deep realistic topics that many people regardless of gender, age, etc. would need to hear. Meanwhile girl meets world felt like it was trying to replicate what an adult man thinks it is like to be a teenage girl
@@imnotfunny2 well but teenage girls need to go through a lot of conversations about life lessons, with their parents and teachers and friends, exactly like the show. They have a lot of stuff to discuss with everyone!!
people said this about turning red, too. Whats wrong with a show for girls? sometimes things may not be "universal" but you can relate to how a character feels, which is universal at the end of the day
@@MyFictionalChaos i didn’t mean it like that what i meant to say was that it would’ve been better if it felt like a more down to earth realistic show instead of a cookie-cutter disney channel show
I’m 23, I watched Girl Meets World as a teen, and have only seen a handful of episodes of Boy Meets World. But judging by what the creator of the show was going for, I just think Good Luck Charlie did it better. And I feel like Topanga was barely a character in this show, but in Good Luck Charlie, both of the parents felt like fully fleshed out characters. The only characters who felt that way in this show were Riley, Maya, Cory, and Zay.
@@bobbletcher17 see I would have preferred that ending to how she we written in Girl Meets World.. not sure if you’ve seen the episode but they totally belittled Shawn and Angela’s relationship
i dont think its sad considering both happened, so you can enjoy them for different reasons. I went to GMW for the love triangle and Andi Mack for the tender moments and friendships.
@@angietoonz6605 i think they mean that, while andi mack had its fair share of cheesiness, love triangles (with sapphic undertones, because the whole amber/andi/buffy/walker thing was very... you know) and dragged out not-yet-relationship drama (bexie and tyrus, to an extent), the way they taught lessons and handled situations was closer to what boy meets world did, despite being a tween show almost crossing over into teen drama territory. am also takes gmw's core lesson of "people change people" more to heart than gmw does.
I just……..wish it wasn’t on Disney. Full self awareness, I’m now an adult and obviously no kids show is going to live up to my nostalgia for BMW. I love almost everything about GMW! Casting and cameos are amazing but ABC ‘adolescent’ shows were ever so slightly edgier than anything Disney channel in this decade. I can’t forget that I’m watching a kids show, whereas there are other shows targeted towards kids that I can binge start to finish. (cough, Last Airbender) Again, that’s not necessarily a bad thing for a Disney channel show marketed towards kids! I just think the execution was underwhelming purely from an OG BMW fan perspective.
Agreed the problem is it was on Disney and they tried to make the kids in the show hyper aware of their surrounding and the past of what the previous cast did instead of letting them grow up and learn in today's world that's what me Boy meets World special because it was the kids learning while growing up but also being kids not having unrealistic lessons that would teach them or lecture them especially lecturing the audience to the point where you're just like okay this is becoming unrealistic you know. I think the show would be a better on like Netflix Hulu or freeform it just didn't need to be tied to anything Disney just need to be the sequel of Boy meets World but it needed to be not restrictive like Boy meets World wasn't the Disney brand really held back this show and never let the show grow.
The thing is... disney did own boy meets world during its run: "Boy Meets World" originally aired from 1993 to 2000 on ABC. During most of the show's run, Disney did not own ABC. However, Disney acquired ABC's parent company, Capital Cities/ABC Inc., in 1996. This acquisition meant that Disney owned "Boy Meets World" for the latter part of its run, from 1996 to its conclusion in 2000. Its more so the work of direction and leadership at disney. They changed ownership and thus the mindset between owners changed as a result. But also at the same time Girl Meets World was a cash grab to me and seems thats how they treated it both from Disney and the director.
1:11:06 Lucas being the new Topanga was a misdirect, although he’s sorta the love interest, the real Topanga of Girl Meets World is Farkle. They both have weird names, started season 1 being really weird, then ended up being very mature. Lucas was just a stand in love interest so Farkle could grow and develop into the real love story for Riley. It contrast Cory at 11 just wanting to hang with Shawn, his brother, and dad, while most girls at 11 are already thinking about boys, so Riley wants that fairytale romance (especially with parents like Cory and Topanga). And Farkle didn’t exactly fit that, while Lucas was perfect or it. Riley and Farkle had more chemistry anyway, Riley and Lucas were boring, Farkle challenged and encourages Riley. They also have more parallels to Cory and Topanga, like Farkle saying he loved Riley since the first grade, just like Cory saying he loved Topanga since he was 6. And there’s so many hints like Riley saying we’ll never settle for anyone less than Farkle, or Charlie saying “so, she (Riley) ends up with Farkle, how didn’t we see that coming”. There’s only one Cory and Topanga, where you meet someone, immediately fall in love and are together forever. Riley and Lucas try to be that, but they’re just each other’s first loves, her real one true love is Farkle (she just won’t notice until later in life).
@@KLANGS that’s what they wanted you to think, Smackle parallels Minkus (they both go by their last names and are very smart). Farkle and Topanga both have strange names and did a completely 180 in terms of personality and looks in season 2 of their shows, which allowed them to develop an even closer and deeper bond with Riley/Cory
This deserves way more views. I had a love and hate for Girl Meets World. I was around the same age as the main child actors (minus Rowan) I could understand why they may have had a hard time bringing this period up again. When it aired I really liked it but definitely saw they were trying too hard to keep it at a Disney channel level and it frustrated me because if they had decided to do this in a different network it could’ve worked out better. The younger generation would've been able to have had a better developed storyline and they could've dug into those mature topics that Disney wasn't allowing them to venture into. It sucks but I’m glad I watched it till it ended. It was also how I became a big fan of Sabrina Carpenter so there’s that too
Well the original BMW was actually really smutty and it’s all about Corey being lustful and sexually frustrated. So they really can’t even recreate such smutty themes in a different show haha
This 👆is what killed it, it never matured and only tried to play for laughs, even The Facts of Life matured the characters and storylines as they aged but this show looks like the teens are all cut from the same cloth.
I do not think Girl Meets World could do what the original series did because it had to stay within very strict Disney guidelines. They have a formula that this show would not work with if they wanted to explore anything with real depth. I really liked the show but wish it could have been on another channel so it could explore more mature themes as the cast matured.
Yeah the original BMW was really all about Corey being a nice guy who was dating the most beautiful babe, Topanga, but then he was still always sexually frustrated because he couldn’t do anything sexual with his gf, so he was just celibate and frustrated for all his years thru high school and college… I mean that’s how it seemed in the 90’s anyway when I was in high school haha
The first season is just as good as BMW season 1. Problem is, Disney didn't let the show mature like the original and it was 3 years of the jouvinile humour. Edit: Also Auggie getting as much focus as Eric did was a huge issue, it made a bunch of B plots preschool aged. Should have had Josh living with Corey/Topanga and actually fill the Eric role. Auggie cold have pulled a morgan, disappearing for like 2 whole seasons.
Well I don’t think they can recreate the original show especially with all its smutty undertones of Corey always lusting for Topanga but he can never do anything about that, despite dating her for his entire life, lol. So there’s just no way to recreate that
@@JamesChessman Mature doesn'nt just mean sex/violence. GMW could have skipped the college years (disney prefers 3-4 season shows anyway.) and that avoids most of the hanky panky stuff. Auggie instead of an older sister/Josh getting more screentime meant the show was trying to appeal to people Auugies age instead of casually trying to hook older siblings.
@@BabyGirlTiny Are you arguing with me or the other person? Because I'm saying the problem is that the show didn't mature with it's audience like BMW did. S2+3 are the same tone of stories as the ones told in S1. BMW S2 + 3 are definitly more grown up than the previous season.
@@JamesChessman I hope you realize I that if you also lived through the OG run of BMW, it's completely messed up that you wanted the teens on GMW to have been intimate. You have serious issues and I'm disgusted by people like you.
Too young to have watched the original, but the new one always seemed off to me, the writing and acting always felt unnatural and superficial, like they were all perpetually trapped inside a school play level production, reading off of a piece of script just out of the audience view, unable to remember their lines enough to actually portray real feelings and too done with the goofy jokes to actually make them land. The original seems better in every way to me, I'm only thankful that this one shoot Sabrina Carpenter to stardom
One thing that bothers me about girl meets world is that Eric never ended up getting married or having kids because in the original boy meets world, he often talked about having kids and so seeing that he never ended up with kids was tragic
Looking back on it, there were *A LOT* of problems with GMW. 1. The abelism concerning Farkle I didn't fully understand it when the show was airing. There were certain scenes surrounding Farkle that I was either concerned/confused about when I was originally watching the show. Now as an adult, they make me uncomfortable & I'm glad the show is being called out for it. 2. Disney Channel in general Self explanatory but I do wish this show had been on Freeform instead. I feel like BMW benefitted sm from having adult storylines BC it was on an adult network so it's a shame GMW's potential to do more mature storylines was essentially shafted due to it being on Disney. 3. The writing of the younger characters One of the *BIGGEST* issues this show has for me is the writing of the younger generation characters that we're supposed to be following/rooting for. The only character from the younger generation I actually liked the entire way through the run of the show is Zay. Lucas was *VERY* bland & I wish he had gotten better development (Auggie had a similar issue). Riley in the later seasons annoyed me a lot since they made her kind of a jerk (especially to Maya when she was going through everything in S3). Maya, like others have mentioned, got development but then they tried to restrict her (which made no sense to me) 4. Shawngela vs Katy x Shawn This is lower on the list bc, while I do 100% agree that Shawngela deserved better (especially after the BTS stuff regarding Trina came out), ending up with your first love from hs is not always realistic. That being said, I do wish they had handled these 2 relationships beginnings/ending better. Unlike a lot of people, I actually didn't mind that Katy and Shawn ended up together but I wish they had more development on screen since it did feel a bit rushed (Ik part of that came from Rider wanting to be behind the camera rather than on it though) 5. The love triangle This is pretty low bc a lot of YA/NA shows have these but BMW on the whole didn't rely on this trope so I found it dumb that they forced it in GMW, especially with Lucas & his characterization 6. Corpanga Ik they didn't want the show to be about them (which is fine and I respect that), but I wish they had been handled better in GMW. They should've at the very least gotten more B-plots with Auggie, that way he could've gotten more development. I also didn't like his storylines with Ava most of the time
Admittedly I haven’t seen the entirety of GMW but I’ve seen a few episodes but just found them boring. Years later, I’ve heard some backlash at how the show handled an episode where Farckle says he thinks he has Asperger’s Syndrome and the others act kids just react to it like it’s a terrible disease. Farckle was just a weird kid. He outwardly expressed his affection for Riley and Maya and it was one of the reasons as to why I stopped watching the show. There may be some positives about the show but I just couldn’t watch it.
I know people say that girl meets world is too surface level because it's on disney. But the Maya and her father storyline and her whole family life was so relatable and had such an impact on me as a young person and to be represented like that was so important to me, that's why I will always love this show
Same for me, me and Sabrina are the same age so i felt really connected to her and her family situation. Although I knew BMW and absolutely LOVE it, my heart has stayed with GMW because of Mayas storyline
Girl Meets World was wasted potential in my opinion. If Disney gave the show the same chance that Boy Meets World got, it would have been a lot better. There are certain restrictions that the network has, but, it is just a shame that this show was cancelled when so much could have came from it.
The show stood no chance because of the Disney brand. "Boy Meets World" dealt with real world topics Disney wouldn't touch. I don't think they show the episode dealing child abuse. There are other episodes of BMW Disney doesn't air. Additionally, the idea of having Shawn and Angela be a successful couple was an inexcusable decision. I understand they were focusing on a new generation with a younger couple, but Angela and Shawn's relationship didn't have to be trashed.
When people think of Boy meets world they often think of the last couple of seasons. They don’t realize that there was a whole beginning that wasn’t all serious topics. Hell the pilot episode had Cory getting detention and tap dancing in front of Feeny and at the end he was in his pjs playing tea party with Morgan. Later on as the show progressed and the characters got older the story lines grew as well. Even to a point where when the reruns aired on Disney there was some episodes Disney banned from airing such as the drinking episode and the prom episode. I may be missing one or two but I think the first major “special episode” of boy was season 4s “dangerous secret” when Shawn was protecting a classmate who was being abused by her father. That said I never expected girl to dive deep in to the “serious” topics right away. It still was children’s show. Though it would have been interesting to see the show progress though the later years of high school. Maybe even in to college like boy did. Maybe Riley actually getting in trouble/arrested and seeing how Cory and topanga would react. But the main issue was they focused too much on the love triangle of a bunch of 14 year olds and forced the whole Shawn and Katie thing. Even if Shawn and Angela didn’t work out they could have at least remained friends. Honestly the show could have done a lot better if it was ABC like the original was or freeform or even streaming like Netflix.
I'd say your vastly underestimating Boy Meets World. While it's true the later episodes were more heavy handed with the serious topics, it dealt with plenty in the early seasons as well.
@@beyondtrash1627 i've been rewatching the first 3 seasons cause of the podcast and i disagree with you. The first season's deepest topic was Shawn not getting christmas presents cause his parents lost his job. We never find out about shawn's life until the END of season 2, the literal finale. In season 2, the deepest topic was the sex episode, which obviously cant be talked about on Disney sadly, so GMW could never do that. Season 3 is where we get into Shawn's homeless life and they DO discuss these things with Maya being his parrelel. I think people genuinely forget that season 2 is a lot of romance and Cory dating around. He never asks out Topanga until 3 and thats when the show gets 'deeper' along with Shawn running away a lot and eventually in season 4 letting Claire (an abused girl) stay the night at his house. The serious topics ever discussed are homelessness and neglected parents, one episode of abuse, cult episode and when the parents almost lost their baby. All which happen season 4+ except the shawn stuff which maya replicates.
A common argument for GMW being so kiddy like and corny is because it's on Disney but Andi Mack was more BMW-esque than GMW was. How'd that happen? That show pushed the envelope more with the reveal Andi's sister was actually her mom.
Girl meets world ended around the same time andi Mack was released. Andi Mack also didn’t have a laugh track from what I remember. It was less of a sitcom more of a teen drama. But if you actually go back and watch andi Mack it’s pretty kiddy.
While it's totally believable for a girl Maya's age to have a crush on an older guy, the amount of time the show spends dwelling on it definitely comes off as "this is a writer's barely-disguised fetish."
The writers are very weird. Between this, lack of diversity, the handle of autism in kids, the pro-capitalism propaganda, and the Christian religion being seen as the end all be all in morals its very obvious how fucked up they are
I don't like Girl Meets World but for the most part I understand the appeal for its intended audience. I think it dropped the ball for Season 3 though. They were in High School yet the setting was not relatable in any way and the issues were too juvenile, when they were more age-appropriate in the earlier seasons. it absolutely should've been made for ABC or Netflix for Season 3 (possibly onwards?) and grown with it's audience.
I adored Boy Meets World as a kid and in my 20s I realized that I was lucky enough to have a friendship like Corey and Shawn and a love like Corey and Topanga (or as close as you can get in the real world). And then Girl Meets World premiered 2 days before my first daughter was born. 😂 Now she’s old enough to watch both shows and I can’t wait to watch them with her! 🥰
It just felt very fake. You could tell it was a show, and I hate that. I like it when it feels like it could real.. a real life reality show being broadcasted to the world. GMW felt like the acting was so forced, and the humor wasn't even there. BMW felt like the characters were real, and whatever they went, the camera felt like the viewers were friends that we never see.. through our eyes, at least for me. I love a good love triangle, I watch kdramas for the thrill of it.. but that's just it, kdrama actors look like they are their characters and the natural comedy is hilarious.. in GMW, they were just not good. The actors don't even feel real to me, they seem more like accessories. If the acting has to be so forced, that's not a good thing. But I'm very picky. I wish the show was more mature, but not too mature. I like a mix of comedy and real emotions due to certain situations. It's hard to explain, but I know what I mean.
Those two shows are products of different times and world views. Being based around girl storylines instead of boy storylines changed the dynamic (not for the worse or better, just different). Boy was shot pre 9/11 in a very different world. Still, the spin off managed to be a good representation of the adult lives of the original cast. It gave resolution to Shawn and still managed to tackle some serious issues in a child's life growing up in the 3 seasons it ran. Going back to Shawn's resolution, the only thing I disagree with most fans on is who Shawn ended up with. Yes, Shawn and Angela were important in TV history as an interracial couple. But it also had to be Shawn's path in life, not Cory's. Cory and Topanga are a 1% of 1% thing in real life. More relationships end than survive. That's reality, and to portray that a relationship of any kind, no matter what the feelings were can end and a new one can begin was important to show in contrast to the fairy tale that was Cory and Topanga. Do I like that it had to be that way? No, but it did... Otherwise the show gets redundant and less believable if everyone gets the dream ending instead of showing those moments where something bad leads to something better... I wasn't invested in the young cast of the new show, I grew up on BMW so I was watching the adult cast. But I definitely have to admit that the Maya character was such a good portrayal of a girl who grew up the same way that Shawn did. I don't think anyone could've acted that part better than Sabrina Carpenter did. That character lived up to the standard. The references to the original show with flashbacks, references and brand new scenes that continue old stories like Eric and Tommy or Chet still being there for Shawn really helped my personal enjoyment of the new show because even if I felt like skipping the parts aimed at the young audience, the interwoven storylines with the original cast were totally worth the investment in the show. TL;DR: It could've been done overall a LOT better in my opinion, but the parts of the show that I had my investment in to begin with were done very well and left me pretty satisfied with the ending of their stories... I'm sure the kids out there want to see more, but as for the adult cast, I don't really need any more of their stories told to feel happy with the 3 seasons we got.
I agree, I don’t think Shawn and Angela’s relationship was strong enough for them to end up together like Cory and Topanga. But i don’t like the way they did it, they kept forcing Shawn to be Maya’s new dad, acting like Shawn and Maya’s mom Katy was strong enough. They even had Shawn saying he likes Katy more than Cory, and also tried to make Angela out to seem like a villain as if she just left Shawn like everyone else in his life. When we all know she “left” so she could be with her dad who she never sees and GMW even says he passed away, so it was IMPORTANT for Angela to be with him. They were forcing the relationship, just like they forced, Riley & Lucas, Farkle & Smackle, and Maya & Josh. This show had too much unnatural dialogue and relationships. If they were going to end up putting Riley and Farkle together, that could’ve saved the show in some way. To show that there’s only one Cory and Topanga, to fall in love with the first person you meet. Riley and Lucas would’ve been that first love, but Riley and Farkle are like that long-term relationship
I so agree! Growing up seeing every episode some multiple times, Boy Meets World, it's a show my husband and my kids also love and something we just throw on to watch. So I watched it right in the middle of the situation being portrayed on screen in Girl Meets World. My husband is stepdad to the 2 older of our 3 kiddos, so the Shawn and Maya storyline really hit hard. Also, we are a 1% couple like Cory and Topanga ( not a flex just definitely relatable to the show), We are also parents with a young family just learning with each situation we are in. This show hit me just right. I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was more than just nostalgia for me. I think the casting was so perfect. The callbacks were amazing for us "old people," and the storylines were so Boy Meets World. It came full circle, and it was a really enjoyable watch for this millennial.
No, the Shawn and Angela thing didn’t need to end. Angela and Shawn weren’t Cory and topanga and Shawn grew out of that throughout the series. And this idea that Shawn and Angela had to break up because Cory and topanga a had to be the only couple to be together in the end is dumb. Because in the end, shawn was miserable because for some reason, he was still stuck on Cory and topanga when he didn’t need to be. That’s unrealistic.
@@growingupwithdisney I think that girl meets world put a lot of focus into the idea that same people should be together. Riley and Lucas were practically the same individual in a a lot of ways and the shows and plot continuously put them together. Hence why Farkle ended up being with smackle instead of Riley or Maya. I don't believe that Riley should end up with Lucas long term because they don't seem like they would be able to challenge and enhance each other the way Corey and Topanga did BUT I also wouldn't want her to end up with Farkle either. I like the narrative that long term Friendships don't always have to turn into relationships. And seeing how all the characters act and interact with each other they are all going to need to be friends more than anything. Maya Farkle Riley and Lucas were introduced to us as a core 4 group since the first episode. So in my opinion none of them should really be with each other
i loved gmw, it was one of the last disney shows i was actively involved with, i was already a bit too old for disney channel at that point, but there was something about it that kept me hooked. i still rewatch a lot of the episodes, because it could always comfort me when i felt any type of way. with distance though, i was a bit more able to see the problems with it, some worse than others. like the autism and communism episode are on another level of weird. and the joshaya relationship should've never even been a possibility beyond just a crush. but still, always has a place in my heart. i really think they paved the way for other disney shows to tackle bigger subjects, in the very slow disney channel pace, but still
I'm a twenty year old female. Girl Meets World got me through middle school. I was very deep into the fandom. Tumblr pages, twitter pages, Wattpad fanfics, etc. etc., I lived and breathed Girl Meets World until months after it was over. I definitely think there was a handful of reasons why the show ended, but I think a lot of people overlook that a huge reason the show could not reach its potential was because of Maya. A lot of girls resonated with Maya. It was older young kids, like middle school, who watched the show. Middle school is a very hard time- it's going to be hard for those kids who resonate with someone as positive and as sheltered as Riley. A lot of the people resonated with Maya and could see themselves in her and feel her and what she was going through. When Maya began to develop and become a better, happier person... only for Riley to shut her down and put her back in the box, and the tone of the show supported that... it hurt. All the people who saw themselves in Maya pretty much felt like they were being told that becoming happy and hopeful meant they were not being who they should be. Like Maya's character was her pain. Her evolution got ruined by the show/Riley, and I think even for people who didn't want her to end up with Lucas, it ended up putting a real downer/negative mood for the show. The show pushed for Maya to be the next Shawn. But, in Boy Meets World, Shawn got to evolve and figure out his own path and way to happiness. That was robbed from Maya and it ruined a lot of the show- at least, for me.
The thing I loved about Boy and Girl Meets World is the friend dynamic. The goody goody with the outsider. The one friend that is there to try to show the outsider they don't have to be bad all the time and that people actually love them and the outsider is there to break the goody goody out of their goofy goody shell from time to time
3:10:55 I remember being upset in that episode, the girls didn’t have the IT Factor to do the Feeny Call. We NEEDED Eric to do it in Girl Meets World, especially in the finale when he and Mr. Feeny reunite
This video made me realize how much press these people did for this show. When I still had cable and I was watching the show I only ever saw the Disney bumps but I haven't seen any of the interviews like this.
I only watched GMW for BMW characters if it wasn’t for them then I wouldn’t have watched it at all 🤷🏽♀️i didn’t like GMW at all cause of how they did Shawngla and made it seem like Angela “abandoned” him which she didn’t 🤦🏽♀️ if you watched the final episode or remember it SHAWN was the one who TOLD HER to go with her father after trying to purpose to her and when she got back they were gonna pick it back up where they left off and eventually get married 😒 like yeah I get it not all HS couples end up like Corpanga but the love they had for each other isn’t something you throw away and forget 🙄 and I hate that they made Corpanga forget their friendships with Angela like 🤦🏽♀️ and they made it seem like Angela was the “villain” and “bad guy” and force Shawn to marry some random ass lady after like 2 dates and say they “in love” and just so “Maya would have a dad” like that’s bullshit 🙄 Shawn coulda still been in Maya’s life without marrying Maya’s mom like he could’ve been the “Mr. Turner” to Maya just like how Mr. Turner was to him and have Shawngla get back or be together already and I’m sure Angela would’ve minded cause he probably told her about Mr. Turner and how he was like the fatherly figure he never had growing up and he wanted to do the same thing for Maya 🤷🏽♀️ and in all honesty I’d choose Shawngla over Corpanga any day 😭 they were real raw complex just like most (if not all) couples are they truly loved each other and I’m STIL so pissed they fucked them over like that 😩😒😤 I’ll always love BMW and Shawngla more than GMW and Corpanga and this is coming from a newly 20 year old who wasn’t even born in the 90s I was born in 02🤷🏽♀️
They could have had Angela and Shawn reunite and stay together. Upon their reunion eventually they could have adopted the character Shawn bonded with. This interracial couple for this millennium would have been recieved well. The Jeffersons in the 70's-80's had the first interracial couple in TV history. That relationship IMO ended up surpassing Cory and Topanga's fairytale due to it's realism and being groundbreaking in popularity. I guess Disney feared controversy. Again, having GMW on ABC would have for more freedom and creativity.
I loved the show, I was the same age as the cast at the time of it airing and I really felt like I related and dove deep into the world the lore(fandoms, fan pages, ship “schools”…ifykyk), and just loved how real the show felt. Looking back, ofc it wasn’t perfect ( especially now that I’ve ACTUALLY watched boy meets world LOL) but it had a lot of potential and definitely should’ve got moved to a platform where it could’ve been as good as boy meets world. I still love the characters and main cast, and love looking at what they do now
This show seemed half baked in its production. The series played out…weird. Robotic at times, monology in its writing. The comedy was odd, the lack of a laugh track or soundtrack made the show feel empty and void. I wouldn’t say the concept, lessons, or ideas of the story were bad, but the show wasn’t entertaining. Like a soap opera that took itself too seriously. Melodramatic over things that even for a kid don’t really matter or should be in contention
some of the main problems i had with show GMW itself were: 1. the show relied so much on romantic relationships to build there characters and give them arcs that over time every single one of these characters ends up being a Mary Sue 2. developing Riley's character more, by the end so many viewers disliked her it was horrible. I always felt like that was unfair. 3. Riley and Farkle not getting together by the end of the show, i think it was a missed opportunity they had way more chemistry. Farkle was Riley's Topanga in this show, i think it would have been the perfect ending
The bit about us older generation needing to "snail mail" if we wanted to say something directly to any of the actors back then and kids now with social media directly messaging or commenting to verified accounts really hit home to me. It's such a different world, but the underlying message overall of both of these shows remains the same. This will give me the push to really watch Girl- I've only ever seen a few random episodes on cable. Need to find somewhere to watch in order. My Boy DVD's are worn out from so much use ;)
I mean no offense to the dude, but he’s not exactly a great actor. He’s a handsome guy with a kind, yet somewhat bland, demeanor. He’d be a great Hallmark Christmas Movie actor!
Honestly I think the weird love triangle between Riley maya and the guy (I forgor his name 💀) it was so forced and I felt it was incredibly out of character I hated it even as a little kid
Oh yeah the love triangle between Riley Maya and Lucas destroyed what little hope they had to go for another season cuz everybody was over it after the first couple of episodes with it and then for them to resolve it in season 3 instead of resolving it right then and there when it didn't even need to happen and it did fail Force because girl meets Texas should have been the time where Lucas and Riley confess their feelings for each other and then all of a sudden Oh Maya has feelings for Lucas oh okay even though we clearly seen her have feelings for Josh but sure let's bring in this love triangle that nobody asks for.
And the absolutely ridiculous way it was resolved didn't help. They built it up for over a year and then decide to end it with such a stupid explanation. It made me wonder if the writers were even human or a bunch or aliens trying to imitate humans, because not a single person in reality would ever act like that.
@@AD240pCharlie they should have just had maya and lucas get together in the new year's episode, then they could have had riley learn to deal with the fact that she didn't get what she wanted for once and after that they would have been forced to come up with actually interesting plots for her.
It's interesting, if it had aired on ABC or Freeform it probably would have coasted for a couple more seasons at least, if not to the point where people today would instead be complaining that it lasted too long and got run into the ground.
I didn't even mind that they didn't have them end up together, but yeah, I'll never forgive GMW for how deeply they *disrespected* Shawn and Angela's relationship, as well as Angela herself! To reduce it all to "we were just chasing what Cory and Topanga had and were never really happy" is such a freaking lie, and completely undermines everything they meant to each other! Shawn DID always have a hard time letting himself be happy - which is why it was so significant that he finally allowed himself to get there with Angela!! And Angela didn't leave "because she wasn't ready", she left because she realized no matter how much she loved Shawn the time with her dad was too important not to take it. Now I still have some issues with that given that I don't see why she couldn't have at least asked Shawn to come with them - it's not like he had so much tying him down - but still, the point is, she very much deeply loved him and clearly didn't leave on the terms of wanting it to be the end for them. I think it makes sense that *Shawn* , to keep the cut from going any deeper, treated it as a final goodbye, but Angela didn't. And on top of all that, GMW even completely minimized everything Angela had meant to Topanga and Cory as well! She was Topanga's best friend, and she and Cory had gotten really close too, and then in GMW they act completely awkward around her! All around, they just did Angela and their relationship so dirty. And it was one of the best parts of BMW. Forever bitter about it.
@@propogandalf Sure I like video essays just fine. It’s just that I agree with OP’s comment about this one. I don’t doubt people enjoy this style. To each their own, just an opinion.
My issue with a lot of the Disney child actors is that I don't believe them. They act as if they know the camera is there. Love Boy Meets World and really wanted for Girl Meets World to have the same magic, it just didn't to me. I don't like to critique child actors that much, but they over act and just don't seem like real kids. It's not just these kids, it's almost every kid on the Disney Channel today. The kids act like they are on Broadway in front of the camera and it feels phoney. Had it stayed on ABC instead of Disney it would have had a very different feel, though ABC is owned by Disney, it still would have been able to feel less Disney.
Agreed! The children acting was a bit much and didn't quite hit. It's different than when Will Friedle acted over the top. Idk, it was so cringe to watch the children for the few seasons i watched.
not to disagree with yall, but that isnt the *actors* fault, is it? Your issue is with disney and not the child actors. remember when you phrase stuff what the real issue is. disney channel training kids to act a certain way is not their fault
I remember as a kid I watched girl meets world as it was coming out and enjoyed it, like it was never my favorite but I had fun. Then I later watched boy meets world and LOVED it, there's no competition this show is one of my favorite shows now. I don't think girl meets world by itself is awful or anything but it just failed to hit the same level of maturity boy meets world did. I loved how boy meets world grows with the audience and you can see the characters grow and change and evolve as people but girl meets world just doesn't have that, and I think that's one of the biggest things missing here
I think red flag number 1 with GMW was it was on Disney channel. BMW was originally on ABC and aired on ABC related channels and as the actors / characters grew up they were able to tackle topics Disney would never touch!
I actually enjoyed girl meets world cause it did a perfect job giving the boy meets world fans something we could watch and something for the new younger audience who was just coming into Cory and Topanga’s life my only 2 nitpicks is they shouldn’t have changed Maya into another Riley when she fit the Shawn type better and they didn’t need the love triangle between maya Riley and Lucas what also helped the series was the returning boy meets world characters that would make cameos showing the older audience where they are in there life it’s just sad the show fell victim to what I call Disney Channel’s 3 year rule where u get 3 seasons then the actors contracts come due for renewal and ether the show gets cancelled or is gets massively retooled like the suite life and the Jonas brothers both options is to avoid having to pay salary increases with the way girl meets world ended there wasn’t really a way to retool the that would have worked i also think the Disney Channel was the wrong choice for the show it should have been on freeform where it could have done more mature episodes like Shawn and the cult for example
I remember watching girl meets world when I was 9ish and thinking the humor was too juvenile for me even when compared to other disney shows on the network at that time. I'm genuinely surprised it was targeted for adults at all.
I was about 16 when GMW came out. I kinda liked it then started to hate it because of Riley. I REALLY hated the love triangle. Like I hate love triangles in general but this one made me want to end myself and the world with me. This show didn't feel like it was as down to earth as it should have been. The whole thing felt condescending
My parents took in our three neighbors when the show first started releasing episodes. They were all around my younger sisters age, and one of the things that helped distract them from the situation they were in was all of us sitting together and watching this show.
The final episode was so good and emotional not knowing if it would be picked up for another season and just the thought of them moving away from Shawn, Reba, Mya, Ava and the others ugh
Underappreciated gem. Most wondered about characters got to come back....the fourth wall breaks were always part of the show and the two lead girls really became strong actors by the end of the series. Wish Ethan suplee would have returned with Harley as "Franky" to show off his incredible body transformation. Aside from that, surprisingly, that show really got me quite a few times, being have grown up during tgif and boy meets world.
Watching this even though I've never really watched the show and have barely seen the original Boy Meets World, I just enjoy your content lol. Girl Meets World very vaguely reminds me of iCarly in the casting of the two lead girls, the stars Rowan and Miranda are both brunettes who have vaguely exotic, biracial, somewhat east Asian looks but play white (I know Miranda is mostly Italian and not biracial, not sure for Rowan), and both have a blonde, rebellious best friend with a broken home life and a father not around. Some of the side characters remind me of iCarly characters too. I would say that the characters in this show seem better than characters in iCarly and a lot of other DanWarp shows, not as one dimensional and unrealistic. And definitely better character writing than in some other Disney Channel shows
I'm 34, and earlier this year I went through a Boy Meets World phase where I felt extreme nostalgia, particularly around the '98 season when Jack Hunter [Matthew Lawrence] was introduced. It was a good show early on but Jack hunter made me see it as cool. Anyhow, I'm only 2hrs and 15 minutes in; however, I had to stop and give you credit for being so incredibly thorough in your assessment. Well done. Rest assured, I 'liked' and 'subscribed'!

Gosh I have so many memories of Girl Meets World and being in the fandom during it. There are 3 core memories I have from GMW; "People change people", the ship wars, and the campaign for a 4th season. There were definitely some problems with the show and a lot of untapped potential, but overall I think it was still a decent show. I watched BMW a hundred times before girl meets world was even teased on disney channel (i still remember when they gave the first episode a couple weeks to a few months before season 1 officially started airing), and I knew it wouldnt be as deep because it was Disney Channel, but I think there were still a few lessons that hit just as well. Honestly GMW had a big influence on me growing up, I know I can trace some of how I acted and saw the world back then to things talked about on GMW. This show really does hold a special place in my heart......even if a lot of how the show was written annoys me. Also, lucaya forever.
This show was my everything. I learned so much about the world through this show and it helped me process my feelings when I entered middle school and started to grow up. Obviously bmw is better, but I will never forget gmw being there for me
@vkmtvstudios There's quite a lot, but the main thing was how similar their transition to high school was to my transition to middle school. It's was super difficult for me, seeing people I once knew change (for the worse) and drift apart. Life didn't feel innocent and carefree anymore. Seeing gmw cover that topic really comforted me and helped me process how life changes.
Girl Meets World was one of my favourite shows ever. I can recognise that it had it's flaws in that Disney channel probably held them back and they definitely handled some plot lines a bit iffy, but regardless it had such an impact on me with its life lessons, humour and overall just a love for all the characters and stories. I still wish we could have gotten more seasons of the show but I still love everything that we got.
i think that if they really wanted to please the old audience they should have done a more mature show, or at least a little bit less silly i loved this show as a child and now, as a teen, i cannot bare watching it anymore it is really sad because i really think it had potential, and if they really believed in this idea of treating kids as a more serious audience they would have been successful at uniting both the younger and the older demographic in the way i see, they should’ve done something more in the likes of “full house” and “modern family”, family sitcoms (and i know it kinda goes against the idea of just the newer generation discovering the world because it would also flesh out the adults, but showing some bigger struggles cory and topanga have in raising their children would be interesting, instead, we just get a glimpse of what could’ve been when they are talking about it) and this whole critic may seem hypocritical since, as i already said, i loved the show as a kid, so if kids were the target demographic they did a good job, but my point here is that if they had gone the more mature route they could’ve achieve the same result but also including the adults in the picture
I like the first two season of Girl Meets World, I feel like it was trying to do it own thing while still being connected to Boy Meets World but then in Season 3 it decided to dump that and try to be a clone of Boy Meets World, which can work if done from the start but you can't do one style and then two season later flip the script and do a different style.
I watched Boy Meets World reruns on Disney Channel, so I was excited when Girl Meets World was announced. I remember watching the first season and I was pretty happy with it. It still had some of the trappings and humor of a Disney Channel sitcom, but it still felt like it was more willing to be serious and tackle more serious topics than most other Disney Channel shows at the time. I dropped the show in season two primarily because of how they broke up Shawn and Angela. I can kind of understand what the writers were going for and I have seen some good arguments on why their relationship wasn't meant to last too. But at the same time, it just bothered me a lot that they didn't get back together. They were a mixed racial couple and that didn't happen too often back in the 90's, or even now for that matter. It felt less like it was done in the service of Shawn's development and more because they were set on Maya getting a step father, which might have worked if he had more chemistry with her mother. As it was, it just felt too contrived and forced for it to work. Plus, Angela being treated as a potential problem with her return while most other characters from Boy Meets World got a lot more fanfare for their returns was annoying. I never saw the autism episode, but based on what I've seen and heard of it, that also bothered me a lot. I am autistic and the way the characters were worried about someone having Asperger's Syndrome just really rubbed me the wrong way. And then the show just not even having the guts to have Farkle be autistic and instead having a minor character be confirmed as autistic instead just made it kind of worse in a way. It isn't the most ideal way they could have tackled autism from the sound of things. Based on what I have seen, I thought that the show was generally pretty good. The cast and the crew sounded really passionate about their work. It almost makes me want to watch the series to see how more of the later episodes turned out. I think it did struggle with figuring out what their audience was. They wanted to keep the focus on the new characters, which made sense with the show's goal and demographic in mind, but they also wanted to please the long time fans who wanted all of the Boy Meet World reunions. I'm sure it was a tight balancing act that they didn't always get right. Getting three seasons was still a good amount of episodes all things considered. The TV landscape had changed drastically since Boy Meets World and they were on a different network to boot. Getting to see the girls going off to college would have been interesting for fans and the writers, but that definitely wouldn't have been something Disney Channel would want. I am curious if there is demand for a Girl Meets World reunion like there are for Boy Meets World reunions when the sequel is nearly a decade old.
I watched the whole series. Didn't hate the characters, but my favorite episodes were still the ones where the original cast came back especially Eric and Shawn.
I grew up on that awkward Era where I am too young for Boy meets world, and too old for Girl meets world... I was 4 when boy meets world ended, and 17/18 when Girl meets world came out... Like, I knew about the show, and caught a few partial episodes. And I was super excited that it was getting a new show and tried to watch it. But unfortunately, I felt too old for the kids stuff, and my own kids were too young to understand anything (my daughter would have been 3 when the show ended, and my son would have been 1). This is a great video though!
I was like 5 when the show ended, so one year older than you, and when I heard they had a sequel series coming out I was far past the excitement at 19.
To me it’s a failure they told us Danielle said that GMW would be like BMW and not shy away from real life topics like BMW but it never did that it was always just another Disney channel show it never tried. It has the same people behind the show the creators are the same they weren’t replaced. The storylines were predictable which is fine for a kids show but at least do something interesting I had just graduated high school when this show aired but I loved BMW and wanted to give it a shot I watched the first two season and couldn’t do it anymore. After season 2 I gave up and then when it ended without getting a season 4 which you would think would happen with a big ip but maybe by that point it had a chance to make a new audience and it still wasn’t enough to keep it on the air. I did go back and watch the series finale on Netflix and it wasn’t a terrible send off. I just wanted to rant about this cause I saw this video. If Disney said they couldn’t do the scripts they wanted to do they shouldn’t have said yes but if it was the only network that would have them that’s depressing because boy meets world was an ABC show and it had at least 2 seasons before the mouse bought the network. Boy meets world never shy’d away from real life topics. GMW wouldn’t touch real life topics with a ten foot pole. End of rant. Have a good year
Yeah I’m working on a vid about reboots that do better jobs of honoring a shows legacy while still launching new kid stars. I think at the end of the day people just wanted more of the og BMW people
To bad Disney Plus wasn't a thing when this show aired because I think it would have been better being able to mature a little more with storylines as the kids got older like what happened in Boy Meets World
GMW was the first Disney sitcom I actually ever watched-my cousin showed me a couple of episodes, and then I sought it out on my own and other shows followed, but that made GMW pretty near and dear to my heart as the first, especially as I saw the differences between it and the other sitcoms like Jessie and Liv and Maddie. I actually really liked how serious it was, but there was something about the more serious, ethereal, kind of spiritual discussions that rang strangely in me, and I think still would today. Not in a bad way, but I never really knew how to describe how their talk of Something with a capital S made me feel, and so it welled up a lot of big confusing emotions in me that manifested as fear of Farkle growing and changing, of all things. IDK where I’m actually going with this, that was just my experience as a 15yo watching shows for non-elementary aged kids for the first time on my phone. I think I saw Farkle choosing to keep some of the changes he made to himself as a kind of betrayal to who he used to be? So it was really painful to see him intentionally tone down his old self as a response to being bullied only to keep a lot of those changes to some degree. I cried at the s2 finale when I realized that he had truly left the old Farkle behind and was starting to be someone else now. I didn’t know what to make of it, and it was one of the few things that I had describable feelings about. Now in retrospect, other episodes dealing with Farkle conflict actually sucked a lot. Lots of people are talking about how awful the autism episode was, and I also think, remembering the Christmas episode (the friend group does a secret santa, and everyone chooses the most bad-faith possible interpretation of the gifts they receive and feel bad about themselves until the giver explains how meaningful and heartfelt it actually is-barf), that that was handled very badly as well. Riley gives Farkle a menorah (kind of weird but sweet in idea-she wants to give him something tangible to be a base point from if he wants to explore his Jewish heritage, which he told them about a few episodes prior in a way that suggested it was kind of a big deal and mattered to him, even if it wasn’t life changing to learn of). Farkle assumes for some reason that this is an attempt on Riley’s part to convince him that he should be Jewish now? Which is nonsense in multiple ways: first of all it has this undertone that it would be a negative thing, just like his being autistic (writers can’t convince me he’s not btw), and secondly that it would somehow change who he is entirely to convert to Judaism. It came across as him being super offended that anyone would assume he’d be interested at all in Judaism, despite the fact that that history meant something to him. Anyway, this show made me feel a lot of things at the time. I always felt really weird about joshaya but at least had the brains to recognize that the love triangle was silly and there was a clear safe endgame the show was going to go with and didn’t stress about it at all. I think it would have been really awesome if s3 didn’t have the Disney limitations that it did, bc I think that that’s where its more lackluster plot originates. I’ll always have a soft spot for GMW though
I love this content. thank you. Though I wish the inclusion of the Rilaya ship and subtext would've be mentioned. Fabulous, finishing the end of the video
You know, I almost made mention of just how close the two were. But I didn’t see any direct mention from creators or cast so I left it out. But man they were times where I felt if you told me Maya and Riley were the couple, I wouldn’t doubt it
@@vkmtvstudios I honestly think Jacobs was oblivious to it. He was caught up in his hippie quasi conservative Jewish values that he didn't realize he was just like with Cory and Shawn presenting two characters as gay.
@@NA86737That isn't it. Compared to Cory and Shawn, the girls are not really being played gay for laughs at all. I didn't even pick up any hints of a possibility they would be.
I watched _Boy Meets World_ very little as a child & I was a high level motocross racer from age 5, so it’s something I caught seldomly (it initially started airing when I was starting 3rd Grade). So I’m similarly aged to Cory & Topanga (as well as, ya know, Ben & Danielle). Something they mention is what it’s like for Ben & Danielle to reprise their roles & calling a spade a spade… _Boy Meets World_ WAS Ben & Danielle’s upbringing, their childhoods were structured around that show & the fame it brought them…the reason the show didn’t work. Things today aren’t the same as they were when _Boy Meets World_ ENDED…let alone when it premiered…
@@vkmtvstudios Well, if I’m being Honest…I can’t describe anything about the actual motocross bike part, you’d need to have an active knowledge of motocross bikes from the mid 1970s (when my dad raced) to the mid 2000s when, after breaking my neck _(for the second time)_ & I had to hang up my Bell Helmet, lay down my Fox Dirt Paw Gloves & Store Away my Alpinestars Tech 8 Boots 😕🤦🏼♂️😣
I was born the same year as Riley's actress and so I was the exact audience for this show and I LOVED this show when it was airing, but at the same time I was youngest of 7 and I grew up watching the teen shows my siblings loved as my own when I was a young child which includes Boy Meets World. I loved all the 90's shows having reruns when I was a kid and I loved the shows from my era of TV :)
I remember when this first came out, all I could think is. "Oh shit this is Francine and Katchoo!" Which most people would absolutely have no clue what I'm talking about. The Comic Strangers in Paradise. Its a decade long series by Terry Moore about two best friends, and its incredible and I would die on the hill that there would be a better casting than those two girls. Even now because its about adults not kids.
It’s kinda sad hearing the creators talk about the show, it had so much potential. I think even in the show we got you can see sparks of what they wanted. But in my humble opinion I think there was too much ego involved and confusion on who they were making the show for. Was it a boys show or a girls show? Was it for the old fans or the new fans? I was it a spin off or a sequel? There was why too much happing, I often think that if it wasn’t on Disney I think it could have been much better. Different story lines could have been better explained and explored unfortunately due to the Disney sensor they couldn’t do that. I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all but when you say it’s a follow up to boy meets world people expect a certain thing.
Agree, it was so tonally all over the place. I wish when doing my research the bmw podcast had started cause I’ve learned that so much of the success but weird issues seem like Michael Jacob calls
No hate to the actors but this show makes me cringe especially when they’re either trying to be funny or when they’re being suprisingly hateful to the Autism community Seriously Wtf was that episode
It was a sequel series to a much-beloved classic, and I don't think that it was given a fair shot. If it had been on free-form or even a streaming service it could have had a chance to really mature. Like, I get the criticism that it's a little kiddish, but 1) it was on Disney and 2) if you look back on season 1 of BMW, it was a little kiddish too. The core audience for season 1 BMW would have been the 7-10 year olds, just like the core audience for S1 GMW. It wasn't perfect, but I genuinely really enjoyed it, and still do. I wish it had gotten a real chance to grow with that core audience.
I never really cared for girl meets world, I would occasionally just watch it to see the original characters but I completely lost interest with the Shawn and katy storyline and what they did to angela's character. the goal -- so they say -- was to prove that high school relationships don't always last, but in my opinion, it really came across as dumping on the black girl so as to hype up the white woman they basically replaced her with and that just ruined the entire show for me. also the way the characters speak is so annoying, they're always either talking like robots or babies. I love witty banter but it's like EVERY conversation on this show just feels so unnatural
I feel like Boy Meets World came out at a different time and considering it was on ABC, it had more time to explore itself. If a show has to wait years to get more mature, I don't really think that works these days and even if it does, Disney isn't the network for it.
Girl meets world the whole Josh and maya thing was grooming and weird. Even if they waited and went on a date when she was 18 and they kissed and there was no spark because it was just a fantasy that couldn’t work even in a sitcom.
As a "90s" kid/millenial nothing will hit the really heartfelt, not-so-secret Christian values TGIF vibes of BMW, especially not a Disney Channel sitcom. ETA. Michael Jacobs never explicitly said the Matthews were Jewish, but I wanted to acknowledge in this comment that the values that were expressed were inspired by his faith, not Christian values per se.
@@NA86737 Jacobs may be Jewish but there are a lot of conversations throughout the series that mention God, and Judaism is never mentioned. Eta, found a good discussion thread on Reddit about it, but it's interesting how such a religious man made a kids TV show that made God seem appealing even to a little heathen like myself.
@@stopstalkingmegoogl I think you may be confused. You're mentioning the Christian values in BMW because of the mentioning of God in the show (usually by Corey). But the creator AND Ben Savage are Jewish, so God is mentioned in the context of Judaism and associated values. A lot of which has overlap with Christianity, of course.
5:21' What's unique to the [childrens' programming] genre is real people and real families and that's what we're going for!' Michael Jacobs. Yeah, all real people and real families live in zillion dollar Manhattan townhouse lofts and celebrate their teens and teens' pals climbing in and out of their bedroom window fire escapes at all hours as though it was a rite of passage! Just shows how pretentious and out of touch this show proved to be from the start!
I think the thing is with sitcoms, there is a lot you just have to kind of accept. But Jesus, Cory must’ve been making bank for that place in the middle of New York.
Let me add that even though I completely disagree with your opinions re the show, I admire the great time and effort you put into making the video so I thank you for that!
Didn't watch when it aired because I was wise enough to know the show would be a bland and boring watered down disney-sitcom version of BMW. Tried to watch a couple episodes after re-visiting BMW, and to my surprise, I was absolutely correct in my assumptions. There is ZERO substance to this show. Everyone is so quirky and wacky all the time and any emotional moments are so shallow you can walk through them without getting your socks wet. Nothing separates GMW from any other disney sitcom besides some of the side characters used to be on the greatest sitcom ever made.
I liked the show, but as people mentioned, 1 of it's major problems was that it was on Disney. It should have been on a sister channel Disney owns so the show could take itself a little more seriously. I feel like the reason why Boy Meets World worked other than the serious moments, was that they had a great ensemble cast and the show gave their characters their own moments and stories. I'm not saying Girl doesn't do that either, but like some episodes of Boy Meets World were just about Shawn, or just about Eric, or even the Parents.. ect.. Girl Meets World does that a little, but it always comes back to Riley almost. I feel like Girl tries too hard to target a specific female audience/age group. Like, Boy Meets World felt like a broad audience could like it. I've known a lot of women and guys who grew up liking that show because it didn't feel too targeted. It felt real poofy to me. Like I get that it's supposed to be a "girl" show, but a lot of "girl" shows in the past didn't feel that way, like when i watched them, it didn't make me feel like, "Oh yeah, this is a 'Girl' show". The "conflicts" got resolved too easy, and it felt like all of the other problems the kids never took seriously enough, this show tried to hard to be light and fluffy and you can see it. I do like the show, I appreciated all the cameos, but again, I feel like some cameo return moments weren't explained or whatever because the audience either forgot about the characters, or what, but they didn't cheer for them. I like the show, I wish it would have gotten more seasons, I feel like it got lost in the "Today's Woke Disney" trap and that's why the writing and stories are what they are. If it had gone to another channel it might have gone differently, but for what it was, it wasn't ALL bad, I'd have liked more seasons to see if it could have developed more, but Girl Meets World is a show that relies too much on the Nostalgia of the show before it and not on the writing. I feel like it could have gotten better had it gotten more seasons, but it is what it is. It definitely isn't the worst show that's Nostalgia based off an older show, just not the best.
@@blackgreninja1 That's not a bad idea for a TV show. It doesn't need to be handled by Michael Jacobs or to be connected to Boy Meets World or Girl Meets World. I can Ceci Belagot (originally Smackle on 'Girl Meets World') in the lead role after what they went through during their transition.
Anybody else feel like they could bring the series back under the name “The Matthews” or something like that, shift the focus back to Corey, Topanga, Eric and Shawn and tell stories of them as they’re approaching middle age? You could still have Riley and Maya, etc in the show (like the first episode could be a throwback to when Eric was burnout and Alan kicked him out to find a job, and before he slams the door in his face Eric says “thank you daddy”). They could literally have an early 20 something year old Riley, fresh out of college in a similar position with Corey and Topanga doing that to her to re-shift that status quo back to the OG cast taking over as the leads. I think it could be funny.
I watched this when I was 14 so here’s the perspective of someone who didn’t watch BMW first, this show was fantastic. It helped me understand my own feelings through Riley and taught me empathy and respect. I think it did what it sought out to do and I was so sad when it ended. The cameos were cute after I googled who the people were but it was nice that it wasn’t just a cameo show. It was funny and made me happy when I watched it so yeah, I wish it lasted longer and I do firmly believe it was a great show
Cory and Topanga are just such bad parents I mean think about it Cory’s parents were cool like they promoted Cory going to party’s promoting his and Topanga’s relationship and they cursed and treated him like a 12 year old and wanted him to grow but Cory and Topanga just don’t their not good and just feel like the did in season 3 of BMW but they adopted children because their best friend died and they had to take care of him/her
I had stopped watching Disney Channel by the time Girl Meets World came out, and I’ve only ever seen random reruns of boy meets world. But this video was still really interesting to me and I watched the whole thing
The biggest problem I have with girl meets world is because Lucas should’ve been with maya I have never met a fan of the show that actually likes Riley and Lucas as endgame
No that wasn't the problem the problem was they never explored Riley and Lucas like they said that Riley and Lucas were in game even Michael Jacob said it plenty of times it's just that he said that he wanted it to happen later than how Corey and Topanga developed feelings over time which realistically Cory and Topanga would happen more than what Michael Jacobs was saying about Riley and Lucas like why would Lucas be second fiddle to Riley's feelings over her friend Maya like you don't put your friend over your lover or your love interest I've never seen that happen yeah Corey had moments but if this is a girl a girl will put her boyfriend above her best friend we've seen it in school all the time so it really wasn't the problem of Riley and Lucas not being together it was the problem of Disney not letting it be explored as early as it should have been. And being more of a backdrop that was another problem how the hell is those two supposed to be your main love interest characters and yet you put them in the background that it just makes no sense because there's people who said they film plenty of Riley and Lucas moments together but cut it out of the episode so it was kind of dumb on their part I would focus more on the Riley and Lucas thing then the Riley and Maya thing like we get an episode of Riley in my friendship all the time they could have put some time where Riley put her focus into Lucas and Lucas put his focus into Riley that was definitely the problem but another big problem was the restrictive nature of Disney channel in general.
I met Will back in ‘13 or ‘15 don’t remember which, I asked him to do the Feeny call and he said he gave it to the girls so he couldn’t. it might have been a contractual thing.
He said it was a ceremonial thing like one of the calls of one his old roles and him getting the call handed down (not sure which show). He did the same with a bit of push from the girls being taught the call. I do not like it.
In Girl Meets World, there was too much ego with the writing. It just seemed like they thought they were so smart and were too stubborn in ever getting feedback.
Also Jacobs is an egomaniac who thinks a sitcom can change people. BMW if anything created unrealistic expectations about relationships.
That's exactly what I feel. Especially season 3 had so many episodes where the writers just tried too hard to seem profound, intelligent and poetic that you end up confused after the episode thinking, "Umm... what exactly were they trying to even say here??"
There's also the fact that unlike BMW, this show always had a much more obvious "Older writers not understanding the younger generation" feeling to it.
Sorry but. It’s exactly what life is like for a girl!!
@@JamesChessman umm…. maybe our experiences were different but to me the show felt too unrealistic, cheesy, and stupid
Zay had the same charisma young Cory had
@@growingupwithdisney I’ve been dying to watch Boy Meets World! I’m saving up to get Disney+!

Why was it disrespectful? She left with her dad to go to Paris.

Hearing her story on the bmw podcast was a bummer, she deserved to have been in the finale.
It's sad that Andi Mack came along and was a much closer recreation of what Boys Meets World was than Girl Meets World ended up being.
i dont think its sad considering both happened, so you can enjoy them for different reasons. I went to GMW for the love triangle and Andi Mack for the tender moments and friendships.
@@angietoonz6605 GMW should've had all of that just like the original
@@angietoonz6605 i think they mean that, while andi mack had its fair share of cheesiness, love triangles (with sapphic undertones, because the whole amber/andi/buffy/walker thing was very... you know) and dragged out not-yet-relationship drama (bexie and tyrus, to an extent), the way they taught lessons and handled situations was closer to what boy meets world did, despite being a tween show almost crossing over into teen drama territory. am also takes gmw's core lesson of "people change people" more to heart than gmw does.
@@num1Jaysta .... the original didn't have a love triangle.
Imma have to check out Andi Mack
I just……..wish it wasn’t on Disney. Full self awareness, I’m now an adult and obviously no kids show is going to live up to my nostalgia for BMW. I love almost everything about GMW! Casting and cameos are amazing but ABC ‘adolescent’ shows were ever so slightly edgier than anything Disney channel in this decade. I can’t forget that I’m watching a kids show, whereas there are other shows targeted towards kids that I can binge start to finish. (cough, Last Airbender)
Again, that’s not necessarily a bad thing for a Disney channel show marketed towards kids! I just think the execution was underwhelming purely from an OG BMW fan perspective.
I really felt that a season 4-7 on free form would’ve allowed this show to really mature and hit its stride
@@vkmtvstudios agreed
If another network like freeform picked it up for more seasons it actually could’ve had legs.
The thing is... disney did own boy meets world during its run:
"Boy Meets World" originally aired from 1993 to 2000 on ABC.
This ^^
I think Farkle would’ve felt forced to, I think a newer character would’ve worked best. Like how the original had later had your Rachel and Jack
Farkle parallels minkus 💀
@@KLANGS that’s what they wanted you to think, Smackle parallels Minkus (they both go by their last names and are very smart). Farkle and Topanga both have strange names and did a completely 180 in terms of personality and looks in season 2 of their shows, which allowed them to develop an even closer and deeper bond with Riley/Cory
I like how Farkle had autism and became more mature than that idiot
That’s how I felt my first watch through and my second run when doing my research
@@vkmtvstudios it definitely had potential
@@JamesChessmanthis comment is really creepy
Freeform would’ve been perfect
Yes Freeform would fit like a glove
She showed him her butt in the elevator
So there’s just no way to recreate that
Nah, the problem isn’t that it didn’t get more mature. You can do mature themes without going into things like sex and drugs and all that.
My exact thoughts. Literally hit every nail. Even as a kid watching this show it felt so weird and uncomfortable
The show characters are just too cookie cutter, the teens look like they’re all cut from the same cloth, unlike the original.
Yeah Sabrina seems like she made a real career for herself
What was the most uncomfortable thing about the show?
Or sometimes just the old characters reskinned
One thing that bothers me about girl meets world is that Eric never ended up getting married or having kids because in the original boy meets world, he often talked about having kids and so seeing that he never ended up with kids was tragic
The Eric spin-off I learned about is the only way they can fix that
@@vkmtvstudiosOh oh it's cousin Spinoff!
Looking back on it, there were *A LOT* of problems with GMW.
1. The abelism concerning Farkle
I didn't fully understand it when the show was airing. There were certain scenes surrounding Farkle that I was either concerned/confused about when I was originally watching the show. Now as an adult, they make me uncomfortable & I'm glad the show is being called out for it.
2. Disney Channel in general
Self explanatory but I do wish this show had been on Freeform instead. I feel like BMW benefitted sm from having adult storylines BC it was on an adult network so it's a shame GMW's potential to do more mature storylines was essentially shafted due to it being on Disney.
3. The writing of the younger characters
One of the *BIGGEST* issues this show has for me is the writing of the younger generation characters that we're supposed to be following/rooting for.
Maya, like others have mentioned, got development but then they tried to restrict her (which made no sense to me)
4. Shawngela vs Katy x Shawn
This is lower on the list bc, while I do 100% agree that Shawngela deserved better (especially after the BTS stuff regarding Trina came out), ending up with your first love from hs is not always realistic. That being said, I do wish they had handled these 2 relationships beginnings/ending better. Unlike a lot of people, I actually didn't mind that Katy and Shawn ended up together but I wish they had more development on screen since it did feel a bit rushed (Ik part of that came from Rider wanting to be behind the camera rather than on it though)
5. The love triangle
This is pretty low bc a lot of YA/NA shows have these but BMW on the whole didn't rely on this trope so I found it dumb that they forced it in GMW, especially with Lucas & his characterization
6. Corpanga
Ik they didn't want the show to be about them (which is fine and I respect that), but I wish they had been handled better in GMW. They should've at the very least gotten more B-plots with Auggie, that way he could've gotten more development. I also didn't like his storylines with Ava most of the time
I will say I kinda dig Lucas character, cause he had a strong moral core and they resisted making him the dumb jock trope
That’s really cool to read
I love when I get these stories that it hit you the way boy did others
Girl Meets World was wasted potential in my opinion. If Disney gave the show the same chance that Boy Meets World got, it would have been a lot better. There are certain restrictions that the network has, but, it is just a shame that this show was cancelled when so much could have came from it.
Hundred percent
Came here for this comment and now i know i don't have to leave one bc I feel exactly the same!
Yeah you can’t rush into deep topics when the character aren’t even fleshed out
Yeah show needed those later seasons to pull deep stuff off
A common argument for GMW being so kiddy like and corny is because it's on Disney but Andi Mack was more BMW-esque than GMW was.
Yeah I think Disney is to share blame but GMW caused there own issues to

@@vkmtvstudios I remember watching that episode and sobbing because I thought there was something wrong with me
While it's totally believable for a girl Maya's age to have a crush on an older guy, the amount of time the show spends dwelling on it definitely comes off as "this is a writer's barely-disguised fetish."
Yessssss this
The writers are very weird.
Yeah though to be fair they only got to be freshmen. They never got senior year story’s
I adored Boy Meets World as a kid and in my 20s I realized that I was lucky enough to have a friendship like Corey and Shawn and a love like Corey and Topanga (or as close as you can get in the real world).
So in my opinion none of them should really be with each other
Yeah the interwoven stories are when it was at its best
i loved gmw, it was one of the last disney shows i was actively involved with, i was already a bit too old for disney channel at that point, but there was something about it that kept me hooked. i still rewatch a lot of the episodes, because it could always comfort me when i felt any type of way. with distance though, i was a bit more able to see the problems with it, some worse than others. like the autism and communism episode are on another level of weird. and the joshaya relationship should've never even been a possibility beyond just a crush. but still, always has a place in my heart. i really think they paved the way for other disney shows to tackle bigger subjects, in the very slow disney channel pace, but still
It always funny the last show you watch on a kids channel before you completely out grow it
I'm a twenty year old female.
Wow that’s a thought provoking take on the shows failure. I think season 3 Riley kinda did just create random chaos for everyone to deal with
The thing I loved about Boy and Girl Meets World is the friend dynamic. The goody goody with the outsider. The one friend that is there to try to show the outsider they don't have to be bad all the time and that people actually love them and the outsider is there to break the goody goody out of their goofy goody shell from time to time
Shawn isn’t a outsider
Yeah we all need rebel friend and a grounded good kid friend
3:10:55 I remember being upset in that episode, the girls didn’t have the IT Factor to do the Feeny Call. We NEEDED Eric to do it in Girl Meets World, especially in the finale when he and Mr. Feeny reunite
I just remembered, thinking they didn’t do it correctly in context
Shawn and Angela will always be my favorite couple
On my Boy Documentary, Trina McGee commented which was super dope!
This video made me realize how much press these people did for this show. When I still had cable and I was watching the show I only ever saw the Disney bumps but I haven't seen any of the interviews like this.
Season 1 had a pretty decent press tour
Yeah I wish gmw slowed down the Katy Shawn romance
I loved the show, I was the same age as the cast at the time of it airing and I really felt like I related and dove deep into the world the lore(fandoms, fan pages, ship “schools”…ifykyk), and just loved how real the show felt. Looking back, ofc it wasn’t perfect ( especially now that I’ve ACTUALLY watched boy meets world LOL) but it had a lot of potential and definitely should’ve got moved to a platform where it could’ve been as good as boy meets world. I still love the characters and main cast, and love looking at what they do now
I’d love to hear what conversation s were big in that fandom?
This show seemed half baked in its production. The series played out…weird. Robotic at times, monology in its writing. The comedy was odd, the lack of a laugh track or soundtrack made the show feel empty and void. I wouldn’t say the concept, lessons, or ideas of the story were bad, but the show wasn’t entertaining. Like a soap opera that took itself too seriously. Melodramatic over things that even for a kid don’t really matter or should be in contention
I could see someone finding the melodrama exhausting.
I think girl meets world was a good attempt, but a family focuses sitcom doesn't seem able to survive now like it did in the 90s
No the problem was it was on Disney Channel. It should have been on abc.
Yeah the joke style seems to get crapped on even if it still has a place on tv
some of the main problems i had with show GMW itself were:
1. the show relied so much on romantic relationships to build there characters and give them arcs that over time every single one of these characters ends up being a Mary Sue
2. developing Riley's character more, by the end so many viewers disliked her it was horrible. I always felt like that was unfair.
3. Riley and Farkle not getting together by the end of the show, i think it was a missed opportunity they had way more chemistry. Farkle was Riley's Topanga in this show, i think it would have been the perfect ending
I think a season 4 or 5 would’ve totally tackled a farkle Riley spark
I always felt that Farkle was the Topanga to Riley’s Corey. But it should’ve been developed over time.
The show just tried too much in too little time
The bit about us older generation needing to "snail mail" if we wanted to say something directly to any of the actors back then and kids now with social media directly messaging or commenting to verified accounts really hit home to me. It's such a different world, but the underlying message overall of both of these shows remains the same. This will give me the push to really watch Girl- I've only ever seen a few random episodes on cable. Need to find somewhere to watch in order. My Boy DVD's are worn out from so much use ;)
I say go in with low expectations and cut it slack and you’ll get your boy fix
Why does Peyton Meyer keep playing the bland love interests
Cause his face is very symmetrical?
@@sonablom they could give him a personality with a symmetrical face 😭
@@ic236 lol thats asking for too much creativity. He'll probably have to write something for himself if he wants a role with any depth.
I mean no offense to the dude, but he’s not exactly a great actor. He’s a handsome guy with a kind, yet somewhat bland, demeanor. He’d be a great Hallmark Christmas Movie actor!
He's just a bland actor, don't know what to tell you.
Even as a kid when I watched this show, I got this feeling that the show was trying to be smarter than it really was.
It wanted to teach lessons at times more than it wanted to be memorable
Yeah and the make a decision plots were at times tiring
And what about the weird zay maya thing out of nowhere
Yeah I think Disney plus would’ve been the ideal place had it existed then
They completely ruined the Shawn and Angela story in the show
I thought Katy and Shawn worked, but yeah I wanted Angela Shawn also
I didn't even mind that they didn't have them end up together, but yeah, I'll never forgive GMW for how deeply they *disrespected* Shawn and Angela's relationship, as well as Angela herself!
Forever bitter about it.
this style of video essay is maddening. say one sentence - play clip - say one sentence - play clip. it feels like an intro that never ends

Hey it’s cool, thanks for giving it a shot anyway
@@MyFictionalChaosrelax😹
Probably having theatre kids like fogelmanis and carpenter makes this the case
I think will had the nick kid actor vibes more than Disney
I remember as a kid I watched girl meets world as it was coming out and enjoyed it, like it was never my favorite but I had fun. Then I later watched boy meets world and LOVED it, there's no competition this show is one of my favorite shows now. I don't think girl meets world by itself is awful or anything but it just failed to hit the same level of maturity boy meets world did. I loved how boy meets world grows with the audience and you can see the characters grow and change and evolve as people but girl meets world just doesn't have that, and I think that's one of the biggest things missing here
Yeah it just ultimately never hit that boy level of humor and story
I think red flag number 1 with GMW was it was on Disney channel. BMW was originally on ABC and aired on ABC related channels and as the actors / characters grew up they were able to tackle topics Disney would never touch!
Yeah they’d never be able to do the prom episode or the drinking one
Yeah it really was a show begging for retooling on a new network
My only complaint is that there wasn't a clip of showing Jazz getting thrown out when it was mentioned with Ava.
I was thinking that too lol
I think it’s because I used it when I mentioned amir towns farther
I remember watching girl meets world when I was 9ish and thinking the humor was too juvenile for me even when compared to other disney shows on the network at that time. I'm genuinely surprised it was targeted for adults at all.
I think it was more like the adults it wanted to watch just watched the cameo scenes in a RUclips compilation and skipped the show
4 hours of awesomeness, this long form content is sick man keep up the great work 👍🏻

Loved this recap!!! You did an amazing job :)
Yeah I’m understand from comments on this video that Riley’s actions rubbed people the wrong way
Can I find out what Riley did wrong...?
My parents took in our three neighbors when the show first started releasing episodes. They were all around my younger sisters age, and one of the things that helped distract them from the situation they were in was all of us sitting together and watching this show.
That’s super cool, I love family appointment tv shows.
The final episode was so good and emotional not knowing if it would be picked up for another season and just the thought of them moving away from Shawn, Reba, Mya, Ava and the others ugh
Yeah I liked that finale
Underappreciated gem. Most wondered about characters got to come back....the fourth wall breaks were always part of the show and the two lead girls really became strong actors by the end of the series.
Wish Ethan suplee would have returned with Harley as "Franky" to show off his incredible body transformation. Aside from that, surprisingly, that show really got me quite a few times, being have grown up during tgif and boy meets world.
Frankee Joey Rachel and Eli should’ve all been back
I'm sorry but you have awful taste. This show was F- tier garbage from start to finish
And definitely better character writing than in some other Disney Channel shows
Rowan is Syrian, Lebanese and Moroccan as well as English, Danish and Swedish
@@audramcdonaldapologist3676 thanks for the info!
I think Dan Schneider shows focus more on the slapstick comedy and a Michael Jacobs show tends to focus on traditional sitcom character work

Thank you so much, I’m currently hard at work at another huge vid

I’d love to hear about some of the drama in that fandom? By the time I was researching a lot of the random and pages no longer existed.
This show was my everything. I learned so much about the world through this show and it helped me process my feelings when I entered middle school and started to grow up. Obviously bmw is better, but I will never forget gmw being there for me
What did it help you out with specifically?
@vkmtvstudios There's quite a lot, but the main thing was how similar their transition to high school was to my transition to middle school. It's was super difficult for me, seeing people I once knew change (for the worse) and drift apart. Life didn't feel innocent and carefree anymore. Seeing gmw cover that topic really comforted me and helped me process how life changes.
@@faith4disney yeah I remember season two of boy having that same feel
Girl Meets World was one of my favourite shows ever. I can recognise that it had it's flaws in that Disney channel probably held them back and they definitely handled some plot lines a bit iffy, but regardless it had such an impact on me with its life lessons, humour and overall just a love for all the characters and stories. I still wish we could have gotten more seasons of the show but I still love everything that we got.
That’s awesome, I think flaws and all the show had a good moral core
i think that if they really wanted to please the old audience they should have done a more mature show, or at least a little bit less silly
i loved this show as a child and now, as a teen, i cannot bare watching it anymore
it is really sad because i really think it had potential, and if they really believed in this idea of treating kids as a more serious audience they would have been successful at uniting both the younger and the older demographic
in the way i see, they should’ve done something more in the likes of “full house” and “modern family”, family sitcoms (and i know it kinda goes against the idea of just the newer generation discovering the world because it would also flesh out the adults, but showing some bigger struggles cory and topanga have in raising their children would be interesting, instead, we just get a glimpse of what could’ve been when they are talking about it)
and this whole critic may seem hypocritical since, as i already said, i loved the show as a kid, so if kids were the target demographic they did a good job, but my point here is that if they had gone the more mature route they could’ve achieve the same result but also including the adults in the picture
Yes, I really felt when they used BMWs stories the show worked much better
👏🏾 agree with everything you said!
youre so right!
I remember thinking the line I don’t have asked burgers, but the doctors don’t know what to make of me was a little odd
I actually kinda know Anthony Quinn. We went to the same church for a few years. He is a pretty cool guy in person.
That’s awesome
It was Girl Meets Disney World. Sunshine and roses, golly gee moments, no chance for actual teen issues.
Bull riding? Give me a break.
Come on the bull riding was very realistic haha
I watched the whole series. Didn't hate the characters, but my favorite episodes were still the ones where the original cast came back especially Eric and Shawn.

never vibed with this show when i was younger felt like they spoke in metaphors and the dialogue was just corny tbh
Same I watched gmw before bmw I liked the show but felt like it was like you said lame and tbh confusing very confusing
Try being the adult male that grew up on Boy trying to get into the new show haha
The combination of cast activism and disney cheapness ruined it
To me it’s a failure they told us Danielle said that GMW would be like BMW and not shy away from real life topics like BMW but it never did that it was always just another Disney channel show it never tried.
I think at the end of the day people just wanted more of the og BMW people
1:20:56 the Farkle lines in season 1 and the wardrobe remind me of a child version of Howard from Big Bang Theory.
Yes! Like the tight clothing choises
To bad Disney Plus wasn't a thing when this show aired because I think it would have been better being able to mature a little more with storylines as the kids got older like what happened in Boy Meets World
I had the same thought… Disney’s perfectly OK with now airing the bachelor on Disney+ but talk about real teen issues😮 no no we can’t do that
Agreed
Yeah even things like mighty duck game changers have more bite to them
GMW was the first Disney sitcom I actually ever watched-my cousin showed me a couple of episodes, and then I sought it out on my own and other shows followed, but that made GMW pretty near and dear to my heart as the first, especially as I saw the differences between it and the other sitcoms like Jessie and Liv and Maddie.
What was life like for a kid motocrosser?
@@vkmtvstudios
Well, if I’m being Honest…I can’t describe anything about the actual motocross bike part, you’d need to have an active knowledge of motocross bikes from the mid 1970s (when my dad raced) to the mid 2000s when, after breaking my neck _(for the second time)_ & I had to hang up my Bell Helmet, lay down my Fox Dirt Paw Gloves & Store Away my Alpinestars Tech 8 Boots 😕🤦🏼♂️😣
No hate to the actors but this show makes me cringe especially when they’re either trying to be funny or when they’re being suprisingly hateful to the Autism community
Seriously Wtf was that episode
Yeah the autism episode rubbed people the wrong way
It was a sequel series to a much-beloved classic, and I don't think that it was given a fair shot.
Agreed
Yeah, a lot of sitcoms have the benefit from back, then of having less competition for viewers
Girl meets world the whole Josh and maya thing was grooming and weird. Even if they waited and went on a date when she was 18 and they kissed and there was no spark because it was just a fantasy that couldn’t work even in a sitcom.
Cept it was like a weird reverse grooming thing cause Josh was not into it… till late into the run. Whole thing was hard to accept
Not really Christian values as much as conservative Jewish values of Michael Jacobs.
Yeah same with fuller house
He talks about his religious beliefs in a few interviews online
@@vkmtvstudios You mean Topanga who openly made fun of her teacher spouse's salary insecurity.
It definitely isn't the worst show that's Nostalgia based off an older show, just not the best.
girl meets world blessed the world with Sabrina Carpenter, it was worth it for that
can't wait for the 2031 reboot, Kid meets world, gotta hit the big points of the gender spectrum
They meets world 💀💀💀
@@blackgreninja1 That's not a bad idea for a TV show. It doesn't need to be handled by Michael Jacobs or to be connected to Boy Meets World or Girl Meets World. I can Ceci Belagot (originally Smackle on 'Girl Meets World') in the lead role after what they went through during their transition.
Could be an interesting take
Wow I didn’t know they did that
Anybody else feel like they could bring the series back under the name “The Matthews” or something like that, shift the focus back to Corey, Topanga, Eric and Shawn and tell stories of them as they’re approaching middle age? You could still have Riley and Maya, etc in the show (like the first episode could be a throwback to when Eric was burnout and Alan kicked him out to find a job, and before he slams the door in his face Eric says “thank you daddy”). They could literally have an early 20 something year old Riley, fresh out of college in a similar position with Corey and Topanga doing that to her to re-shift that status quo back to the OG cast taking over as the leads.
I think it could be funny.
Sabrina's face while Ben is talking directly into the mic... 🤣
Sabrina always had a ton of personality
I watched this when I was 14 so here’s the perspective of someone who didn’t watch BMW first, this show was fantastic. It helped me understand my own feelings through Riley and taught me empathy and respect. I think it did what it sought out to do and I was so sad when it ended. The cameos were cute after I googled who the people were but it was nice that it wasn’t just a cameo show. It was funny and made me happy when I watched it so yeah, I wish it lasted longer and I do firmly believe it was a great show
I love the younger viewers coming in to show that it did manage to reach its intended audience
Thank you for watching it all
The biggest problem I have with girl meets world is because Lucas should’ve been with maya I have never met a fan of the show that actually likes Riley and Lucas as endgame
I think Riley should be with Farkle, Maya with Zay, and Lucas with Smackle
Yeah cause Riley was obviously a lesbian
I like Riley and Lucas together
@@growingupwithdisney you are 100% correct!
This is amazing …🎉🎉🎉🎉 you dedication to make it this is an amazing video is evident great job
Thank you soooooo much, makes the effort worth it
I met Will back in ‘13 or ‘15 don’t remember which, I asked him to do the Feeny call and he said he gave it to the girls so he couldn’t. it might have been a contractual thing.
I don’t think it was contractual, he probably was upset that they just gave the Feeny Call to the girls, so he decided to just not do it anymore
He said it was a ceremonial thing like one of the calls of one his old roles and him getting the call handed down (not sure which show). He did the same with a bit of push from the girls being taught the call.
I do not like it.
He said it was a respect thing
It was a thing a transformers voice actor did for will
