@@TrashorTreasure A good call. There's a reason why some people refer to it as "Persona 0". There was recently a fan translation of the Super Nintendo Version: www.romhacking.net/translations/3951/ Fun Fact, IF got a prologue chapter released on mobile phones. It was originally gonna be release in a special edition of the super Nintendo version, but Atlus didn't have the money to pull that off at the time: megamitensei.fandom.com/wiki/Shin_Megami_Tensei:_if..._Hazama%27s_Chapter and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Megami_Tensei_If... Another thing to note is that the Female Version of the Main Character of IF actually shows up in in person in Persona 1 and 2: megamitensei.fandom.com/wiki/Tamaki_Uchida The Persona series very much includes IF as part of it's continuity. There are many references to the events of IF in Persona 1 and 2. Does that mean that the Persona Series follows the SMT continuity? No. Shin Megami If may be considered a side story to the main SMT Series, but it also sets itself in a alternate universe from the SMT series. The SMT continuity follows the premise of a demon apocalypse, while the IF/Persona Timeline sets itself in a reality close to ours. Sorry for the random factoids. Hope this helps!
just read the manga ya'll it's actually really good and in my opinion gets across the story better then the game. I did enjoy the game though it just requires a lot of patience and perseverance
It's funny because I was thinking about doing a persona spinoff marathon and I thought that would be og but then I found your videos and then I went damnit!
@@TrashorTreasure also about your point in the video about point in the video about smt and persona I personally think it's unfair to smt fans and an upcoming one such as my self that they have to wait about 3 years to get anything when all persona was doing was pimping out mediocre thing after mediocre thing. the anime is something that I can look at and make fun of every single frame and laugh at it. the dancing games are just waterd down versions of p4d that had season passes up to $85 that had a special edition that is just page's and an art and the disc you know not an actual art book so if you are someone like me who loves to see beta designs then screw you I guess.persona q2 from what I can remember is not as bad as q1 but if q1 is a D- then q2 is a C also the atlus shop flopped. thankfully persona 5 royal and scramble are here (or at least both are here in japan) royal while I don't like it as much as of it is still a good game and am obsessed with scramble and we have smt 5 and 3 remastered next year so looks like something atlus is on the right track again at least in my opinion.
spinball production I wouldn’t say the Persona games throughout the past three years have been mediocre per se (although arguably P5D came out too soon), but yeah, I do get that it is frustrating having to wait for an SMT game while Persona’s getting all the attention.
@@TrashorTreasure I'm pretty sure they knew what they were doing with the art book and the season passes and P4D only being in the special edition with the art book I hope they don't pull that again because a certain other company got taken to court and I don't want them taken to court.big when persona 4 was big atlus still made megami tensei games but now we don't even get an announcement for smt 5 for three years and the sad thing is that persona wouldn't be anything without smt so it's kinda sad that they kinda removed it from the boxes.in conclusion in my opinion atlus if you make people wait for smt at least have good spinoff games.
The manga does fix the Flow of the story and give naoya a cool backstory. But meanwhile they made some new moments to the other characters they couldn't put a lot of the interactions and little side events there, and the Snow Queen Quest didn't get as much as SEBEC when it comes to development and upgrades. Meanwhile I think that is the best adaptation of a persona game I think that I prefer the game itself
Me: -*didn't look up a guide* -*thought the battles were* *really* *fast with* *very short attack animations* -*absolutely loves the PSP ost and can't get enough of a Lone Prayer* Frankly you can try Shin Megami Tensei or other spin-off games in the franchice, but i doubt you'll like any of them aside from maybe Devil Survivor, the games are all about combat gameplay wise a.k.a massive amounts of random encounters, and long deadly endless hazards between save points forcing you to actually think about what you're doing instead of being held by the hand the entire game.
Yes, because if there's one thing Persona's known for, especially P1 & P2, is that they hold your hand too much... Also, I enjoyed Digital Devil Saga in the time I put into it.
@@TrashorTreasure A lot of people do enjoy Digital Devil Saga, or at least its the image i have, and then can't get into SMT, which is weird to me since you can't even get demons in Digital Devil Saga, haven't played past the first few bosses myself yet. But to be fair a lot of people get into SMT, love it and then don't enjoy P1 and P2 a lot which again i don't really get, also just the image i have i could be wrong, im probably just crazy. PS: I didn't mean my first post to come out hateful or anything but it probably did come out that way, i get a little too defensive when anything's about P1 or P2, i don't know if you watch any anime or read manga but i recommend if you ever have time to read the P1 manga, really fleshes out the story and characters more, especially the MC Naoya, peace.
Dimensional Nemesis It’s cool, man. :) I have had a fair few people say I should read the P1 manga, which does make me curious as to why that comes so highly recommended. I’ve skimmed a little bit of the English translation online, and yeah it’s not bad so far. I’ll definitely finish it at some point, it’s just kind of a pain in the ass to read online. I’d preferably like physical copies, but I’m guessing they’re Japanese only? I’ll also give the SMT games a proper look at some day on this channel, probably starting with Nocturne when the HD version comes out next year.
@@TrashorTreasure Personally i gave it a 10/10 which is clearly biased XD, honestly don't remember everything anymore, i should reread it, i just remember being so overly happy how everyone got so much more screen time and growth, oh well its not like im perfectly sure but i don't think there's anyway P1 was popular enough here to get official books translated, so yeah physical books are japanese only, if reading online is a pain i'd recommend just plugging a HDMI cable through your PC and TV to read on big screen, its what i do, never as good as actual books but its something. All i can say about Nocturne is that its apparently the hardest SMT, im replaying it before the remake comes out and im reaching the halfway soon, and i think i can properly explain the reason for the difficulty, basically random encounters, mobs, demons can almost constantly get the first attack in on you regardless of not getting back attack/ambush, think it depends on party speed, stats, and difficulty, but for me on hard mode half the fights they get first attack, and i die before i get to move, so umm, just keep it in mind when choosing the difficulty i guess XP
Dimensional Nemesis Yeah, that’s what I thought. What a shame, but thanks for informing me anyway. :) I’ll give it a good read in my downtime regardless. Yeah, this is what I hear about Nocturne. I’ve kept that in mind, though the enemies getting the first turn on hard mode’s got me concerned a little. Can’t judge it until I try it anyway. I look forward to playing it still!
Lels auto battle exist since Digital Devil story: Megami Tensei and since I played SMT 1, all improvements in Persona 1 is cool for me! And it's not even my first persona game that I played yet still one of my fav atlus game.
I wish we could get a full remake of the game to expand the story and to keep the original soundtrack becuase I dislike the soundtrack of the Psp version in the context of the port and the music patch isn’t perfect. I also like the menu style in Revelations better and there is a PC port from Japan that was really cool but doesn’t run on modern hardware
ChiefMedicPururu That’s not a bad way to distinguish them, haha. Though personally I would choose to call Makoto Niijima “Mako-chan”, like Haru does. No reason. I just like the way it sounds. :)
Im excited for the p2 review, I hated the gameplay (psp version), but the story, characters, and atmosphere were so good. (I need to beat P2 EP though, I heard it was better on the gameplay front)
I couldn't make myself play the PSP version, it completely lacks the best part of the game - atmosphere and obscureness. The UI is ugly and has no personality, all the new features are set up just to complete the game as fast as you can, seems like it was the main point of the remake. Not to mention the worst - soundtrack. It's okay on its own but it doesn't fit the game a tiny bit. Original music and sfx were amazing, no idea why they couldn't just remaster it like they did in P2 PSP remake. The only good things in PSP version are a decent translation, additional quest and uncensored characters.
Fun Fact: Digital Devil Saga is not actually an SMT game. It's only been given that title in English. Over in Japan, it's called "Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner" and has no ties to the SMT franchise other than being a JRPG made by Atlus. So in truth, this guy has never actually played an SMT game outside of Persona.
ah yes, it is not a smt, if the game has the same demons and attacks of other smt games its only pure coincidence. (and literally a boss fight with Demi-fiend from smt 3 its a fcking coincidence too)
The only Persona game I have access to is Persona 4 due to it being on Steam and me not owning any Playstation systems. I have a switch and Xbox, and that about it. I plan on getting Persona 4 from steam via gift cards and also buying a controller since I'm unsure about the laptop controlls.
i want to play persona 1 but im torn between psp version and psx version...psx version has better music and psp version fixes alot of issues with psx version but has not a very good soundtrack(unless you like j-pop which i dont sorry...)
Well, I agree it's not aged quite so gracefully, but I hope you don't consider it shitting on you for me to say it still has a unique charm, can be enjoyable if you're used to this kind of game and know what you're getting into and is arguably the most accessible old school megaten, so if you disliked this game you'll REALLY hate SMT 1 and 2 (not to even mention the NES games) for example... which I do too in fact.
That's a bit harsh, it has flaws, but it has charm, if you're into old school rpgs (and I mean really old school, like, actually playing classic wizardry old school) you'll feel at home
Naoya isn't that generic looking. He honestly looks kinda cool tbh.
I love his design. But one of his names on the other hand is absolutly bad, I mean "The boy with earing".

So that big drought of info about SMT V was just the team getting work done without much to say, and the teams that work on SMT and Persona are different from what i remember so it wasn't like the game was getting neglected by atlus.
I consider this my favorite Persona.
Now is my turn
Oh cool! It’s MangaKamen!!!
6:15 But Persona one was the gamebthat started persona manual. And also he has a canon name and his design is actually really good, its not generic, I think its quite cool.
*Sigh*
IF YOU HAVE A PS3, Revelations Persona is available.
You do not need to go out and buy a playstation classic
Oh crap! You got Kamen here too! Niiiiiice
I got stuck in that dungeon where the protagonist and Maki have to go through by themselves, couldn't find the way out or forward and kept randomly dying to certain enemies, so I just gave up
It's important to navigate yourself using the minimap and seeing where you haven't been yet. If you try to navigate the dungeons by looking at the first person perspective you'll definitely get more confused
@@PedroMatos482 I was stuck at a point where I would die from random encounters before I could reach anywhere
Is Shin Magami If on that to do list?
Wasn’t planning on it originally, but I suppose it would make sense to talk about the game that inspired ATLUS to create Persona.
@@TrashorTreasure A good call. There's a reason why some people refer to it as "Persona 0".
There was recently a fan translation of the Super Nintendo Version: www.romhacking.net/translations/3951/
Fun Fact, IF got a prologue chapter released on mobile phones.
Another thing to note is that the Female Version of the Main Character of IF actually shows up in in person in Persona 1 and 2: megamitensei.fandom.com/wiki/Tamaki_Uchida
The Persona series very much includes IF as part of it's continuity.
Your reviews are gold man!
Thank you very much! :) Glad you enjoy them!
Treasure
Oh hey you got MangaKamen here too
It's funny because I was thinking about doing a persona spinoff marathon and I thought that would be og but then I found your videos and then I went damnit!
Do it if you want to, man. :) Don't let me stop you.
@@TrashorTreasure I'm actually playing through p2 IS right now
@@TrashorTreasure also about your point in the video about point in the video about smt and persona I personally think it's unfair to smt fans and an upcoming one such as my self that they have to wait about 3 years to get anything when all persona was doing was pimping out mediocre thing after mediocre thing. the anime is something that I can look at and make fun of every single frame and laugh at it. the dancing games are just waterd down versions of p4d that had season passes up to $85 that had a special edition that is just page's and an art and the disc you know not an actual art book so if you are someone like me who loves to see beta designs then screw you I guess.persona q2 from what I can remember is not as bad as q1 but if q1 is a D- then q2 is a C also the atlus shop flopped. thankfully persona 5 royal and scramble are here (or at least both are here in japan) royal while I don't like it as much as of it is still a good game and am obsessed with scramble and we have smt 5 and 3 remastered next year so looks like something atlus is on the right track again at least in my opinion.
spinball production I wouldn’t say the Persona games throughout the past three years have been mediocre per se (although arguably P5D came out too soon), but yeah, I do get that it is frustrating having to wait for an SMT game while Persona’s getting all the attention.
"I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS"
Have you guys read the manga of the first game?
Yes it was Extraordinary,i think the manga is better than the game itself
The manga does fix the Flow of the story and give naoya a cool backstory.
But meanwhile they made some new moments to the other characters they couldn't put a lot of the interactions and little side events there, and the Snow Queen Quest didn't get as much as SEBEC when it comes to development and upgrades.
Meanwhile I think that is the best adaptation of a persona game I think that I prefer the game itself
Great video as always m8
Thank you kindly!
Remaster not remake and still a better story than p5 but hey good video guys
Dream of Butterfly will always be the definitive Persona theme to me, damn it.
Me: -*didn't look up a guide*
-*thought the battles were* *really*
*fast with* *very short attack animations*
-*absolutely loves the PSP ost and can't get enough of a Lone Prayer*
Frankly you can try Shin Megami Tensei or other spin-off games in the franchice, but i doubt you'll like any of them aside from maybe Devil Survivor, the games are all about combat gameplay wise a.k.a massive amounts of random encounters, and long deadly endless hazards between save points forcing you to actually think about what you're doing instead of being held by the hand the entire game.
"Minato"
Manga name, tho, Kamen.
ChiefMedicPururu I actually put that in the script for him to save confusion when talking about the two Makotos in the series.
@@TrashorTreasure Oh. To remedy that, I call Makoto Yuki "Makoto-kun" while Makoto Niijima, I call her "Makoto-chan".
ChiefMedicPururu That’s not a bad way to distinguish them, haha. Though personally I would choose to call Makoto Niijima “Mako-chan”, like Haru does. No reason. I just like the way it sounds. :)
@@TrashorTreasure Oh, OK, Mako-chan, it is!
Im excited for the p2 review, I hated the gameplay (psp version), but the story, characters, and atmosphere were so good. (I need to beat P2 EP though, I heard it was better on the gameplay front)
5k subscribers in over 3 years? Criminal!
Opened up this channel around ten years ago now. :)
It's funny, my first interaction with Persona, and SMT as a whole, was with the PSP port of Persona 1.
Persona is still Megaten. Persona 3 and 4 were only called SMT outside of Japan. Persona 5 dropped the SMT. It's still Megaten.
You know before persona 5 smt 4 was atlus bestselling game.
To be completely honest, I wouldn't compare the persona 1 music to persona 5 music because of the massive time gap,,
Persona 1 Psx soundtrack completely destroys Persona 5
@@dokkanbattleplayer2921 honestly I agree
Persona 1 is my second favorite persona game.
I played it second, and like it more than the others for some reason.
(and literally a boss fight with Demi-fiend from smt 3 its a fcking coincidence too)
He has a sorta canon name: Yuuya.
Yeah but no one really knows the Drama CD of Persona 1.
The only Persona game I have access to is Persona 4 due to it being on Steam and me not owning any Playstation systems. I have a switch and Xbox, and that about it.
I plan on getting Persona 4 from steam via gift cards and also buying a controller since I'm unsure about the laptop controlls.
What about now? (Still no classic persona though, the only ones I've ever played... I'm dead inside)
When i get the part that persona 1 is persona q beta.... emm... well persona q is based with persona 1 and etrian oddysey gameplay anyway
i want to play persona 1 but im torn between psp version and psx version...psx version has better music and psp version fixes alot of issues with psx version but has not a very good soundtrack(unless you like j-pop which i dont sorry...)
11 months later, there's a mod to unjapanify the PSP music if you're interested
Persona 1 is my third favorite persona game
Jokes on you guys P1 was my first persona game.... I've never been the same since.....
I think Persona 1 fans are pretty annoying just shitting on anyone who doesn’t like it I respect it but I think it has showed it’s age
U should read the manga too,it was great, just me or anyone thinking same that ,p1 manga more better than game itself especially on naoya development
And most SMT fans are in complete denial
i knew it was magna just by voice alone
How are you Reviewing this??? Everyone knows Persona 1 & 2 don't exist 😂
"trash or treasure"
The game isn't trash, its a junkyard
yes I agree
That's a bit harsh, it has flaws, but it has charm, if you're into old school rpgs (and I mean really old school, like, actually playing classic wizardry old school) you'll feel at home
