I have arthritis in my thumbs and find it difficult to play anything action-oriented with thumbsticks, an all button controller like this might let me play stuff like Super Smash Brothers again. Thanks for showing this off, I didn't realize there were options like this out there.
There's a TON. Also, consider checking out the Xbox Adaptive controller coupled with a Mayflash adapter, or the Hori Flex controller for Nintendo Switch.
Specifically for Smash I would recommend looking into the Frame1 controller! It has buttons to emulate the right stick (and I believe it has a modifier button that allows you to angle the left stick in more than 8 directions).
There's also the "Smashbox" made by the same people who do the Hitbox... Like the Hitbox it's a little oversized being an all button arcade layout controller... But from the sound of it, it might be exactly what you are looking for...
Never had an urge to get a fighting pad. This one just looks so super sleek. Love the design, very clean. Edit: Yes, now I do have an urge to get one. Might save up or wait for a sale on them as they are still a bit pricey for my own taste.
so do you have the urge now or is it still not quite enough? (i got a fight stick and then made it into an arcade and now i have 3 arcades so be careful which slippery slopes you get on)
I don't think you can expect any sales. They are using the Brook UFB mainboard which is a hundred bucks alone, then comes the bill of materials for the rest of the hardware, labor & administrative costs. Looks like they aren't working with a huge profit margin where they can afford discounts at all. Look at their older pads, if you order them with PCB included and pre-built they come up slightly more expensive.
$200 ($220 now due to part availability issues) is on the lower end compared to the full-size ones. It's definitely an investment and if you can find a way to try an all-button controller or a Hitbox (I actually tried a Snackbox Micro at a convention's Guilty Gear Strive tournament and am now onboard to saving for one). Just saying compared to other all-button controllers it's about the best you'll do price-wise. And I'd probably rather have one of these than a bulky Hitbox.
The snackbox micro I bought out of curiosity but I use it nearly exclusively for fighting games now. It's actually really comfortable for lap use and I'm a fairly large dude.
@@midazct100 absolutely, down+forward will give you diagonal forward as an example. I've played on controller and arcade stick for years and adapting wasn't really an issue. Most modern fighting games are fairly lenient on inputs as well.
I just want to say I really appreciate your videos like these for accessibility. A lot of conventional controllers don't work well with my large hands and you have helped turn me onto to some very solid options.
I have one and can highly recommend it for fighting games and anything else that doesn’t need both sticks! You can also get an additional metal plate for the bottom to make it feel more substantial, and they have a ton of color options available for their buttons on their shop. (Rumor is they’re also making a smash box style controller with this thin form factor 👀)
it really is very weird to adapt but DEFINITELY worth it, i started on some snes beat em ups and shooters to get used to this layout, took a week, it was a lot of fun because it felt like i was playing these games for the 1st time again (i used to play A LOT on keyboard up until like 2005, but i always used my right hand on the arrow keys, i was not used to wasd)
I played Mario bros on an arcade cabinet and while the joy stick wasn’t optimal the jumping was incredible. I also have fond memories of my first time emulating and playing Mario on a keyboard. I think this video is telling me to take the plunge
Amazingly enough, I'm super stoked to play retro shmups with this and experiment/get used to controlling ship movement with buttons instead of a stick or dpad. This and the Mpress look fantastic. Now it's just a matter of waiting for fresh stock. Great video!!
