- What good is an arcade stick if you never bring it anywhere? The SnackBox Micro is here to solve just that...
Thanks to Junkfood Custom Arcades for providing the controller for this video. All opinions expressed in the video are my own. I’ve used the YT “paid promotion” overlay for transparency but I was not paid monetarily to make the video.

@@TheVentrexian A JLF?! IN THERE?! Mad man.
@@Nickyhelliot I know..I just like comfy looking sticks.
This video unlocked a hidden memory from within me, apparently. I instantly recognized it as a parody of the original macbook air ad and it’s been years since I saw it.
Junkfood will have injection molded buttons that are smooth texture. But they don't appear to be up on their store yet.
The next batch is going out with them and then they'll be in the store, from what I understand.
@@aarono8979 So if you order for one of the June or later shipping dates you'll get the newbuttons?
I’ve ordered a snackbox micro a month ago scheduled to ship out on the 20 of June. Maybe possible for the new orders to include the new injection molded buttons?
@@j2thedissle304 Yes, in their discord they’ve mentioned the May batch and onward should include the injection molded key caps.
Concave / Convex buttons really is a matter of perspective and your age. When I was playing fighting games back in the day (Street Fighter 2 days) all the arcade buttons on cabinets in the USA were concave. Convex buttons is a Japanese thing. It doesn't make a huge difference.
If keyboard sounds were a girl, Nihongo would be down with her.
Lol
Dude what the flip?!?! I'm crazy jealous of that ice cream sandwich.
I kinda drooled in my mouth a bit when you tapped the buttons that is a seeeexy click!!!!
not my bag control wise but I can always admire some good button feedback.
That's actually not bad.
Has it's own pcb for the controls.
A Brook board built in and very good looking.
200 dollars isnt so bad for this
20 years ago when I discovered mame on pc, I didn’t have a controller so I learned to play street fighter ii with the keyboard (and pretty well as well). Everyone thought I was mad. 20 years later, turns out I was just ahead of the curve! This thing is wicked!
Same here! My cousin and I didn't have access to controllers during that time. I have lost my hard core keyboard skills because a controller is more comfortable, but you do what you can
These things are still sold out and they are only available in October according to the site ;-; wish I could have gotten one of these smol babies
this controller makes me want to get back into fighting games
@techypathshalescam
I am not sure, but I think the buttons might be concave. Very subtly concave even. Not sure. Could be. Possibly. You should mention it.
OOPS I can’t believe I forgot to mention that the buttons are concave! Hehe
He mentions it at 10:12 haha
@@JohkeGaming *woosh*
If they release a pre-installed clicky (mx blue style) version of this, I'm going to start questioning if my FBI agent has been telling them everything I've ever wanted in an arcade stick.
LMAO, you might beat him in tekken but they're going to beat you irl XD
`I love this controller. This was my first button box controller. I got this controller out of a whim, but it does everything I could ever want. the ONLY gripe I have with the controller is those top bottoms. I wanted to learn Killer Instinct and I honestly dropped it just because you have to press start and share together but pressing those buttons together is a pain and a bit inconsistent sometimes. I know they are actually going to change those buttons, so that's great. Other than that gripe I say this controller a great controller if you're in the market as it is more than just a gimmick.
Bought my snack box, kinda sad it got delayed but this helps a lot for what to expect!
I just got to test out the micro and I have to say it is now my stickless controller of choice. I have the OG hitbox, and I think it is great, but It is really only ergonomic if you can play with your hands suspended over the buttons. I have always needed to rest my wrists, and that feels like it has definitely done some damage over extended use with the height of the OG Hitbox. As you mentioned in this review, because this controller is so low profile, I can comfortably rest my wrists on my legs and play on this controller without discomfort.
I'd definitely recommend this to people looking for a stickless controller simply for that reason alone. If you have no problem playing with your hands elevated than the OG Hitbox is still a great choice, but I'll almost certainly be selling mine now.
Just bought one of these to celebrate a new job. Just got some art for it which honestly makes me way happier than it should.
This looks seriously good for Tetris
All I need to this be perfect is the option with a longer board and option to spread the move and attacks buttons a bit (they have it on another hitbox). And ps5 support, so I'll wait anyway, but looking for one in near future 100%
This is just making me more excited for mine to finally ship this week
Great video! Junkfood will have injection molded buttons in soon. The new buttons replace all of the option buttons as well so they will feel nicer to press the little ones on top. They are all being made in PBT so it will also lower the sound profile a bit like on keyboard keycaps and the best part they will have a color options!
COLORS WOO! This is all superbly exciting news!
No mention of MPress? You just got one.. I'd expect to have seen more of a comparison between the two portable button box arcade controllers.
Oh plenty to say about mpress as a comparison but I usually dedicate the first video to allowing a product to shine on its own merits first unless there’s some dramatic fault that I want to point out.
@@NihongoGamer Looking forward to the head to head NG
@@NihongoGamer waiting for that video, I am going to pick one of them up and I'm leaning towards the Mpress, but I would like to see your opinion first! thank you for the videos
This thing makes me want to learn to use a hitbox.
Can you do the slide half circle with those buttons?
He can but it’s not very comfortable. It’s a struggle. Can’t even do infinite combos with it.
@@o2ksumbody ah okay than I‘ll buy the mpress✌️
Video was enough to get me to order one for me, thanks for going over it in such detail!
That switch sounds meaty for a small boy like that
That is VERY slick looking!
i just got one for myself cant wait to test this out
How do circle motions work on this layout?
wow just ordered, super excited to get my hands on one of these. i love how small it is, and i’ve wanted to try the button style hitbox. it seems like it feels similar to a keyboard having your fingers on asd and your thumb on space. excited to try one out finally because i don’t feel comfortable with the arcade sticks. overall, nice video 🙌🏽
I got mine since 6 months or so, and the more i play it, the more I love it!!
My only concern before getting this controller really was: is it gonna be comfortable on my lap???? Is it gonna be 'big' enough of a controller??
I'm 6foot4 / 193cm and long legged hehe. Large hands and its working PERFECTLY.
There's definitely a learning curve to it but it's just soo much fun to play & super portable.
I mainly play Tekken 7 and in reasonable time i mastered the KBD technique, and qcf / qcb commands really feel amazing.
Can't recommend it enough!
Ps: u can even customize it now ❤️
Considering my wrist problems it might be worth investing in this
Maybe this video should be called, Snack Box Micro, The stick you have to wait months for.
Woo. This might work brilliantly for DJMAX 😀
Nice intro, BTW that's a huge ice-cream sandwich.
can’t wait for the mpress comparison as well great video!!
a question if your willing to answer how is the controller for side scrollers say like mario or contra to name them as examples?
Wow, this looks pretty neat. I'm actually thinking of getting one.
Been thinking of getting a button only controller gonna have to give this one a look.
looks cool. Can you share a piece of that snackbox?
200 dollars for a bunch of buttons.....Give me a break please.
Oh sweet! You got one too! :D
18:46 I love this segment haha
Nuff said, I’m getting it.
my favorite controller to date💛
Wow that'd 200 bucks? I was expecting 400
I love button boxes. I've currently got a special edition hitbox, a paradise arcade mpress, and a gamo k28. The first hitbox, mpress, or snackbox to include PS5 support gets the order from me.
Cant wait for mine to arrive, to bad chip manufacturing issues are delaying them atm.
I knew it!
Once of these day will come.
I always like fighting game's but can't afford to have that kind of space for people like me switching room to room every few years.
I give myself time and see what will be next rival to this.
Joystick 🕹️ are not easy to be accurate as well.
I honestly wonder if you could just put a flat pillow/memory foam pad under it if you wanted to boost the height a bit or change how wide you could sit with your legs.
That controller is so cool!
Does anyone knows the button size? They look like 24mm but I just want to be sure.
The small ones are 24mm and the larger one is 30mm
@@junkfoodarcades4647 Thanks a lot!
18:30 stephen hawking
That Macbook Air parody intro, LOL!
I really want one of these, I think id prefer this to my main stick
Honestly wish there was a version that sounds like my custom keyboared
I love this stick so much, its jusr unfortunate that i'm not used to hitbox layout, i kinda wish there is the one with the wasd ones
i want one
Hi, at 3:33 what kind of lever is that. i like that it is quite and not clicky
This looks awesome at a portable controller. Have you played with the hitboxarcade Hitbox controller before?
I only had the one time trying it at the Hit Box booth at Evo Japan. Quite the experience!
@@NihongoGamer I haven't tried any other hitbox style controller but I have the hitbox itself and absolutely love it. I'd love something like this for on the go as the hitbox is kinda clunky!
Who would want to have directional buttons instead of a joystick or thumbstick? Or even a D pad.
At what point does a tiny hitbox just become a controller?
“JCPenney dinner tray” 😂
always bring a pillow for lots of reason and now one more
Hey, does this stick run into the 8 minute timeout thing on PS4, or no?
Nope no timeout
God I wish I could buy this controller, but it's literally 50% of what I get paid monthly in Brazil lmao
Quanto?
@@patrickmartinelli9065 meu salário é de R$2500. 200 USD é quase metade do que eu recebo, e ainda tem frete
would this be recommended for someone with bad carpel tunnel? been trying to find a new input to help with it my hands have got so bad i might be having surgery soon
wow that looks awesome
question...is there a left handed one....?
Not currently but maybe eventually
Man, I was hoping it would be like, some kind of solution where the stick is collapsible, rather than a hitbox based design
1:27 Thats what she said.
Okay I never thought it would sound like that, I assumed it would be kind of muted. That's far more appealing to me now! Whenever I expand beyond my vanilla hitbox this will be at or near the top
I wonder how good this would be on a desk and I wounded him good it is for Tetris
i'm buying one for puyo puyo tetris lol. it's similar to using a keyboard with bigger buttons and fewer keys
@@issasecretbuddy let me know how it goes
Awesome, just curious, what's the repairability score for this? I'd imagine that I might have to put in work for some buttons after a few years
It is super easy to get into and fully disassemble. We have a video explaining how.
Honestly I would prefer if the movement buttons were in the shape of a D-pad or arrow pad so you can have a casual and competitive position able to use a thumb but also fingers if you want.
For this layout you may want to check out my videos on Mixbox, cardimod or the FRS. Or do you mean a traditional d-pad?
@@NihongoGamer traditional Dpad would be cool for casuals but I mainly talking about something like the switch dpad
I dunno man, you're used to not having an arcade stick or d-pad, but I would really have to learn to play with 3 buttons for movement and a jump button. It's not like you just pick it up and voila, I'm used to it. it will take hours to get used to if you always just used a joystick/d-pad or arcade stick. So i don't know about this concept, but i guess once you're used to it, it's way easier to do a dragon punch for example, but how do you do the 360-degree moves with a Zangief for example??? many questions here :)
It sure looks very precious!
I dig it. Can we not call it an arcade stick though. It’s an arcade pad of sorts all buttons. How can it be an arcade stick with no lever hence the stick. Don’t mean to be a snob but 🧐 that all being said I still want one lmao
Its called a Hitbox…
I've been looking for some time now for a nice Stick or ButtonBox coming from Pad and this seems like something I want to get into. Is there a seller in the EU that sells those tasty sammiches? Shipping is 56 Dollars xD.
That intro... was perfect! Haha!
I wanted to see you do a 360° motion. Zangeif grab
I would actually love this stick but with a regular joystick.
Very good test, but I wonder how the cable and especially the USB port will handle over time. I know as a pad player that the USB cable tends to become looser over time, and I'm afraid this could be the case with this Snack Box Micro, causing controller disconnection over time... Was the USB cable heavily plugged in or not?
looks cuul!
This controller looks so sick and I want it but my wallet says no 😭
Idk if they exist but is there an all button fighting stick to get for Xbox? If so where?
I'm looking for a fight pad since I have small hands.....(I'm a girl) and this one looks so cute and small
i didnt even watch the video and im like 'how much'
the stick that someone forgot to include in the package
how i wish they make a detachable stick version
How are you supposed to do special moves with this?
Looks cool if you’re into hitbox. Not for me thanks. Stick for me.
for those who are using controllers which one is better? stick with the controller or the spamming board?
This looks really nice and I kind of want one but seems kind of expensive. I also dont know how to use that button layout lol.
Do you think they'll make a left handed version anytime soon?
what game is that with the animals fighting?
Me a beginner, wondering where the Stick is thinking it's defective 🤣🤣
Drink when he sais concave
Welcome back NihongoGamer
really good video! nice keep it up.
Okay, after your joke at the beginning, given the name of the company, they should change the name of this thing to like, the "ICS Box" or some other Ice Cream Sandwich related name.
Also, they keep pushing these mini box controllers smaller and smaller, and I kinda wanna see someone push one to the physical area of a smartphone if possible. I don't care if it's impractical to use. It can be just a novelty, even if the buttons have to be just "mechanical keyboard switches with round keycaps on them"
I need to see someone win a tekken tournament with that
I always Love your videos😊😊👌
