The soil is covered with ground cover and then the planting medium is placed on the ground covering. Are you in Jamaica? I use locally manufactured fertilizers. Most fertilizers are made up of 3 macro nutrients, nitrogen (N ), phosphorous (P) and potassium (K) (NPK). When you are unsure of how to manipulate the fertilizers, it is best to use a balance one such as 20-20-20. This contains 20% of each nutrients NPK. I find that it's more about your care routine, than the brand of fertilizer you use. I do have other videos which shows how I fertilize my orchids. Please watch them and let me know if the information in them helped. I do hope you find my response useful.

Hey Colleen, plant addict... I know right. You are not alone friend. Lol. These are not my orchids they belongs to a friend. I just visited. However you have to have many orchids in order to have constant blooms. Also you have fertilize them weekly and protect the spikes from insects etc. I hope this helps. This video is actually highlighting an orchid grower's orchid garden that I visited in my series called the Doctor's visit. In order to get your garden to put on a stunning show you should have several plants clustered together. You also should be consistent with your orchid care, meaning watering, fertilizing and treatment for insects and other pest. Plant nutrients are very critical. There is really no secret. Lol. Just consistency.

Hey, thanks for your comments. Yes there are different types of Vanda orchid cross. The strap leaves are the ones you will see hanging and in the shade. The Vanda teretes, arantanda , mokara etc. can be grown in this fashion. As you take the journey you will understand more about them. 🥂

Hey Beatrice, I'm so happy you enjoyed my tour. Thanks for watching. Yes her plants were still in pots placed in the beds and then she covered the pots with river stones and charcoal. I believe that's the same medium they are potted in. Some persons just plant them in the bed without the pots and they still does well. Jamaica is a tropical Island and so our winters are not very cold I've seen it gone to as low as 56oF. The plants can manage these temperatures. Please feel free to let me know if you have other questions, I'll be most willing to answer.

Hi Digna, thanks for your question. Shrivelled leaves in vanda orchids are usually caused by the inability of the plant to absorb the water. This could be as a result of the roots rotting or dyeing due to over or under watering. It could also happen when you buy a bareroot orchids and the humidity is not sufficient for the plant to become re establish. Depending on the cause you may have to check the roots, clean up the plant and repot. (Please note that not all plants will recover.) I usually soak the plant for a few hours in a solution of high phospherous fertilizer and superthrive or any other plant vitamins that will help the plant to recover. Then repot the pant. You may also add some moisture retentive medium to the potting mix and ensure that the humidity is increase around the plant. You could place some riverstones in a plant saucer and place the potted plant on it, allow some water to remain in the saucer with the stones. This is creating a humidity tray. Ensure the plant is kept in a semi shaded area until it recovers. I hope this helps and good luck and happy growing.
Hey Gwen, I would not take them off until they have sufficient roots to grow on their own. What I normally do is to take off the mother plant once it has a strong rooting system and allow the younger ones more energy to mature quickly. You decides which will work better for you.
