Ah, i still remember the day, it was early february in 08', it was my 8th birthday and my dad had promised me a PS3 i was so stoked to finally own a PS3 of my own sice most of my friends already had one, so many good memories on this thing, definitely one of the best consoles of all time
My PS2 stopped working when I was 11 and I was desperate to play console gaming until dad surprised me with PS3 console in 2013....although 8 months before PS4 launch (I didn't update myself with tech news though), I still cherish every moments spent with PS3

2007, dad came home with a 40 GB PS3, Samsung 40" LCD 1080p TV, and GTA IV. If I didn't get the YLOD in 2014, I'd still be playing Tekken Tag 2, Soul Calibur II HD, Last of Us, Uncharted, etc. Loved my PS3 so much

Rubber Duck no but the 60gb could the 80gb cheche01 model used an emulator so it only played supported games and they ran kinda shitty then the later 80 gb model which had 2 usb ports only played ps1 games. The 60 gb the cecha01 plays all ps2 games and upscales the graphics so it looks great on an hdtv but like he said it was prone to overheating because sony used cheap thermal paste and unleaded solder on the motherboard so if you want to use this ps3 you have to do some work on it to prevent a ylod
I once owned the super slim at the time of course. You're right, the sliding door wasn't as bad as people made it out to be, it works better when it is vertical as it slides a lot slower as if it was an electrical mechanism, but when its horizontal the sliding mechanism looks very cheap when it slides. Overall I didn't mind, after all the only way the games would be removed out of the system is if the disk was pulled out meaning no one can accidentally eject a game disk by accident, which is a positive compared to the original fat ps3 with the touch screen eject and power button.

At least with the 360's slim model they pretty much completely fixed the overheating issues, unlike the PS3's slim which was still susceptible to overheating issues. I guess you were just unlucky.

People even find it terrible for platformers. 360 pad is only good if all you play is FPS. Better games? No. Compare MS exclusives with Sony's at the time. There's a wider variety of genres to choose from with Sony. Depends on what you like overall. Free online is more preferable to paid online. The Ps3's hardware architecture was actually incredibly powerful, just that most found it a nightmare to develop for, so hardly anyone could use it's full potential. Especially if they had a deadline to release a game on multiple consoles. This is part of the reason why consoles are more similar in architecture to PC these day. Makes it easy for devs to release on all platforms.

I loved the Super Slim. The version I got was 500 GB which was more than enough space for me. I also really liked the mechanical door. Reminded me of the older consoles I used to play on. Also of course the size was a big plus. I could throw the thing in a small backpack with a pair of controllers to go to a party where as the 360 was a bulky mess with a power cord that looked like it could charge an electric car it was so large.
You don't need a full tower PC to play Skyrim though... Any mid-range Laptop can do the job too... Not that I wish to shit on the PS3, the PS3 really was ahead of it's time and is one of my favourite consoles to date! Current gen consoles suck... Thats pretty much a fact, but the PS3 will always have a special place in my heart.

I first played it when I bought one in 2008, the 80 gig version. and that one didn't play ps2 version only ps1 and it was still a fat one lol. i eventually ended up putting a 500 gig harddrive. best decision I ever made cause that harddrive lasted me for ever. but it also took me forever to save money for this. I believe I was 21 and at the end I still had to borrow some money from mom. lol dam this Console was expensive. and the game I bought was gta 4.
oh yah and it still work just as good as the day I bought it. I love my ps3 it still a beast. never had any problems, I still use it. I've put so many hours of play time on that machine.
same, I have the fat one, but it is the newer fat one, so it can't play ps2 games and it does not have those extra ports, but it is still working perfectly after all of those years of heavy use, I even have my 2 controllers which came with it, and they work perfectly fine, including being thrown a lot lol.

Musmer Abdulrehman Actually I like my super slim. It is the quietest PS3, except while using discs, but game volume removes that. The other day a friend knocked over my PS3 on accident and had to turn it in to the GeekSquad for repairs, I was able to take out the game due to the sliding mechanism whereas without it, I would've lost it. The very last thing I like is it's size. You can place this console practically anywhere. Not only is it a great console from my key points, but it is the ONLY PS3 version without problems like the YLOD. Which remains present in the original and slim models.
I'm still using mine for the past several years now. Recently I even managed to pick up titles like Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag for $1.99,. Resistance 2 for $3.00, Grand Theft Auto IV for $2.24, GTA V for $5.99, Battlefield 4 for $2.24, Assassin's Creed Revelation for $2.24, Elder Scrolls V for $3.99, and so many more titles for roughly the same price. Not only that but considering that it has a built in BluRay player, also compatible with apps like RUclips, Netflix, Crackle, Crunchyroll and so on, and to top it all off, you can also plug in your USB flash drive or any external drives in FAT32 format and play any media files off of it. So basically, the PS3 is not only a cheap video game console, but it can still double as a decent media console.

I once owned the super slim at the time of course. You're right, the sliding door wasn't as bad as people made it out to be, it works better when it is vertical as it slides a lot slower as if it was an electrical mechanism, but when its horizontal the sliding mechanism looks very cheap when it slides. Overall I didn't mind, after all the only way the games would be removed out of the system is if the disk was pulled out meaning no one can accidentally eject a game disk by accident, which is a positive compared to the original fat ps3 with the touch screen eject and power button.

At least with the 360's slim model they pretty much completely fixed the overheating issues, unlike the PS3's slim which was still susceptible to overheating issues. I guess you were just unlucky.

+Riot Better controller? Yeah, no. Ask anyone who plays fighting games & they'll tell you the 360 pad makes FGs unplayable. People even find it terrible for platformers. 360 pad is only good if all you play is FPS.
Better games? No. Compare MS exclusives with Sony's at the time. There's a wider variety of genres to choose from with Sony. Depends on what you like overall.
Free online is more preferable to paid online.
The Ps3's hardware architecture was actually incredibly powerful, just that most found it a nightmare to develop for, so hardly anyone could use it's full potential. Especially if they had a deadline to release a game on multiple consoles. This is part of the reason why consoles are more similar in architecture to PC these day. Makes it easy for devs to release on all platforms.

I loved the Super Slim. The version I got was 500 GB which was more than enough space for me. I also really liked the mechanical door. Reminded me of the older consoles I used to play on. Also of course the size was a big plus. I could throw the thing in a small backpack with a pair of controllers to go to a party where as the 360 was a bulky mess with a power cord that looked like it could charge an electric car it was so large.

You don't need a full tower PC to play Skyrim though... Any mid-range Laptop can do the job too... Not that I wish to shit on the PS3, the PS3 really was ahead of it's time and is one of my favourite consoles to date! Current gen consoles suck... Thats pretty much a fact, but the PS3 will always have a special place in my heart.

I first played it when I bought one in 2008, the 80 gig version. and that one didn't play ps2 version only ps1 and it was still a fat one lol. i eventually ended up putting a 500 gig harddrive. best decision I ever made cause that harddrive lasted me for ever. but it also took me forever to save money for this. I believe I was 21 and at the end I still had to borrow some money from mom. lol dam this Console was expensive. and the game I bought was gta 4.
oh yah and it still work just as good as the day I bought it. I love my ps3 it still a beast. never had any problems, I still use it. I've put so many hours of play time on that machine.
same, I have the fat one, but it is the newer fat one, so it can't play ps2 games and it does not have those extra ports, but it is still working perfectly after all of those years of heavy use, I even have my 2 controllers which came with it, and they work perfectly fine, including being thrown a lot lol.
That's coo I wish I could say the same thing about my controller but that's not the case lol I have kids and they brake stuff. But I only ever bought 3 more controllers and they still work fine though.

Musmer Abdulrehman Actually I like my super slim. It is the quietest PS3, except while using discs, but game volume removes that. The other day a friend knocked over my PS3 on accident and had to turn it in to the GeekSquad for repairs, I was able to take out the game due to the sliding mechanism whereas without it, I would've lost it. The very last thing I like is it's size. You can place this console practically anywhere. Not only is it a great console from my key points, but it is the ONLY PS3 version without problems like the YLOD. Which remains present in the original and slim models.

Recently I even managed to pick up titles like Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag for $1.99,. Resistance 2 for $3.00, Grand Theft Auto IV for $2.24, GTA V for $5.99, Battlefield 4 for $2.24, Assassin's Creed Revelation for $2.24, Elder Scrolls V for $3.99, and so many more titles for roughly the same price.
Not only that but considering that it has a built in BluRay player, also compatible with apps like RUclips, Netflix, Crackle, Crunchyroll and so on, and to top it all off, you can also plug in your USB flash drive or any external drives in FAT32 format and play any media files off of it.
So basically, the PS3 is not only a cheap video game console, but it can still double as a decent media console.
