That is simply beautiful.... great job. I just bought my 1st Royal 10. I have taken apart the carriage, and I'm having difficulties putting it back together. I was feeling a little overwhelmed. Thanks to you, I realize it can be done. Thank you for your videos and for sharing your through process knowledge.
You're so lucky to have your dad helping you..a beautiful bond. I love how real you keep it. I totally can relate to your train of thought. I just started working on my first and had to walk away for a breather. 😂
Terrific video! I love your explanations of how you approached each challenge, along with the video clips of you working on each part of the project. As one who fixes computers (including detailed laptop repairs, although I don't do restorations) and tackles household repairs and minor upgrades, I would say that your approach is spot on, you give great advice and I love watching you teach yourself new skills. One of my daughters could be a kindred spirit of yours. She started helping me with household fixes when she was very young, got comfortable with regular hand tools as well as power tools, and now she lives in another country, where she shares an apartment with two other young women who turn to her when there's anything that needs fixing. When her laptop screen failed last year, she didn't need a handsome stranger to rescue her. I told her how to diagnose the problem, showed her where to find a repair manual and a few videos about screen repairs, and she found a place to buy a new LCD panel and replaced the faulty one herself.
Sarah, such a great series! It has it all!The highs..the lows. Its so well done, kudos to you. From the bottom of my heart...Thank you for this wonderful series. God bless and Merry Christmas to you and your elf's😉
That's a heck of a project to dive into as a first learning experience! Looks pretty good, and the things you mention as still needing work are mainly just adjustments and maybe a resoldered slug. Very commendable (:
Wow. You are my hero! I’m not quite brave enough to rebuild a Royal standard completely yet. Though I too have a model 10 that could use a rebuild. Cudos!
Congratulations on getting to the finish line here, something to be proud of. Typewriters are complicated machines and a full disassembly is a very big job indeed, akin to taking a car engine apart. I like doing smaller jobs and working my way up to such things - for example, a few days ago I replaced the rubber in the small rollers on a machine where they had hardened and cracked. The rubber came from vacuum line from auto parts store. That was hard enough for me, …what you did? 100x harder!!
In the future, I highly recommend finding a parts manual online for the typewriter you're working on! They're pretty easy to find for any model and display how to disassemble and reassemble a machine, and what order the parts go in when you're placing them back together. They've saved me quite a few times from project to project :) Also, I absolutely adore how the paint job turned out! The blue is so pretty💙 all your hard work paid off & turned out beautifully!
I did use a few manuals to get it apart- and we looked at a few for a KMM to get it back together. But you're right, a guide would've been incredibly helpful!
I can relate to your experience, I have three Royal Xs only one of which works. The first two had broken carriage rails but I manage to get other the machine working with parts from the other two. That being said you can't always exchange parts between Royal Xs, the first two machines were from 1917 and the third was from 1924 and I learned there had been some minor changes between those years on some of the parts rendering them not interchangeable. I also ended up with extra parts when I disassembled the carriage and reassembled it. I still have no idea where those screws go or what they do. Good job on repairing your machine!
Have you ever considered learning to touch type? I used to not, but learned for explicit use on my typewriters. Touch typing gives an even letter imprint and far fewer jams of the type bars. These machines were made for touch typing on, and I believe it is only fair to at least give it a try.
Can you show a deep dive like this into an Underwood 4 Bank? I just got one and I’m afraid to dive into it without seeing someone disassemble it first.
I just bought a Khm royal really great price key were pretty good but I neglected to test to see if the carriage moved. So consequently the carriage wont move but it does not have the in wheels in there. Dont know if that has anything to do with it. No manual either so im Looking for one. Anyway any suggestion as to what might be the problem. You say test it first before you take apart. It has to be the carriage. Im going to take apart but wanted to get any input I can. Before I start. ❤ nice video, and the Typewriter looks beautiful! ❤
Check to see if there are margin stops blocking it from moving. I would also clean out the track with compressed air to see if it will move before you take it apart!
Thank you for your response. I spent all night looking in there lol Im addicted now! Lol I will try what you suggested before I do anything else 😁 thank you so much for your response. Everything on it seems in working order the carriage is frozen solid! Fingers crossed!
👏👏👏 Bravo! What a grueling labor of love. The result is beautiful and you must be so proud! I'm so glad you battled through. Thank you for the video. Your production skills get better all the time and your presentation skills are excellent, taking us viewers step by step in a clear and entertaining way. Question-after you had walked away for a while, was there something in particular that inspired you to go back to it?

It's always good to make a profit when reassembling old machinery. I often end up with some extra unused screws. Good job by the way.
Your perseverance is encouraging, Sarah. Well done for seeing it through and extending the life of this beautiful old iron 👍🏼

I am currently restoring a royal 10 too but mine is already functional just cosmetic repairs and it is still taking me so long. Great job.
Everett's Monster! Love it!
I loved the whole series. I really respect the “keep filming while learning” aspect of these videos!
Thank you! It was also really helpful when I forgot what part did what to go back and check my footage

Good job on repairing your machine!
I noticed that difference between my 1922 and my 34 as well
Thank you for doing this series. It was entertaining and educational! Thanks and be safe!

Hi there- You're definitely right it would help with jamming issues
Merry Christmas Sarah! Thanks for reading the name choices, it tickled me to realize that you probably haven't watched Outlander.
(I have!)
Fantastic intro!! So happy for you!!!!
Can you show a deep dive like this into an Underwood 4 Bank?
I just got one and I’m afraid to dive into it without seeing someone disassemble it first.
I recommend trying Phoenix Typewriter’s RUclips channel! He has tons of repair video, and he’s definitely worked on 4 banks before
Also Zip-Strip is a great chemical that strips paint without sand blasting.
Your ribbon is not on properly. Check the manual for Royal 10 on The Classic Typewriter Page.
Absolutely INCREDIBLE Sarah!!!
Merry Christmas!!!
😍🌲🎅

Question-after you had walked away for a while, was there something in particular that inspired you to go back to it?
