Sorry just re-watching the video again. Does the bracket under the light turn? Could you turn the light to the ceiling and then turn the bracket itself down so that the pivot is behind the light and not under it? So that the barn doors will function?

WAIT!? DecaF? Oh my, and I had such high regard for you all being a teacher, enjoying typewriters, and your love of vintage style things.. SIGH.. well, I'll just keep watching and hope you eventually throw that defaF out the nearest window and hug your pets until some good coffee is finished brewing :) .. (seriously, drink what you enjoy, I'm just here to see typewriters, the occasional pet interruption, and remind myself of the pointers you've given out over the years).

I know some trivia about this machine. Outsourcing to other countries is nothing new. It all started after WW2 when manufacturers decided they could save money by relocating to defeated countries, especially Japan. While the sewing machine industry got hit the hardest by this trend, some typewriter companies began to do the same. Royal set out to deliberately buck this trend. They reasoned that if their typewriters were manufactured with quality in mind, rather than economy, customers wouldnt mind paying a higher price. With this thought in mind, the Royal HH was born. It was seen as the bee's knees in high quality typewriter manufacture for the 1950's.

I took typewriter class in 8th grade. I have no idea how to use a typewriter any more and haven't used one in 4 decades or so. But touch typing is baked into my soul. So it goes.

One of my favorite typewriters. (And the “snappiest” machine I own; reminds me of that brash little kid always looking for a brawl!) And now, thanks to the title, I know what ASMR is. I’ve watched them and enjoyed them but, until this morning, never heard the term or even knew it was an actual “thing”. (And, mind you, I was a psych major.) Thank you!

I went ahead and bought this 7Keys RetroTypewriter Style keyboard based on your review. I just got a new mini PC and I needed a keyboard for it. All the keyboards I have around here are for Mac. I chose this one in particular for the backlighting and the gapped font used for the keycaps. I just thought it looked sharp. I'm really impressed with the packaging. This in no way seems to be a cheap keyboard. I really like that the coiled USB cable adds to the retro look. That back wire paper (phone, iPad) support does't seem to be removable on mine, but that's fine. I'm disappointed that it doesn't include a "keeper" for the USB Bluetooth dongle that many wireless mice have. I have no use for the RGB, but it's fun. But when I set it on constant backlight, the color is blue which isn't particularly visible. The brightness control is about what I've come to expect from LEDs. Some variation, but mostly off and on. And this In No Way FEELS like a typewriter keyboard. As you mentioned, the keycaps are a bit too large and too closely set together, more like a computer keyboard than like any typewriter. I haven't noticed the keyclick to be particularly loud, though it's louder than the keyboard on my MacBook Air. I'm still considering getting Brown switches for more of a tactile click. I really like that swapping key switches is an option. Also, switching between Mac and PC is seamless, though you get only one Option key with a Mac. And that wrist rest is included. That's nice. I appreciate having a Bluetooth-capable keyboard because you never know when a wired connection might not make sense. This one is a dandy that works well and looks great.

This is a great video. I'm planning on using a typewriter for work because I am not going to pay for Microsoft Word when I can just look like some crazy 1900s dude clacking away on one of these babies. I was really worried about maintenance, but it turns out not to be that bad, I can even make videos on cleaning it and it won't stray too far from my channel's main subject. Very good video, and hopefully I can get a typewriter soon!

I’ve been watching your videos for a couple months now and it’s great to watch the different types of typewriters and the progression of experiences with them. I picked up a Remington model 16 that I’d like to repair for my daughter. But I’m having trouble finding some chats or blogs to help with disassembly.

Nice work making it to 10,000 subs. Here's hoping you make it to 20,000 in short order! I think I know what's driving the price of vintage Pyrex. It was all the rage in the 1970s, when I grew up. My mom loved it - she loved Corelle, too, and we even had a set in that same Old Town Blue pattern that you found, including those exact teacups. Pyrex was magical -- glassware that could go from oven to counter to table to dishwasher; ordinary glass would break if you tried to do that with it. But according to the all-knowing Wikipedia [smirk], Pyrex was reformulated in the 1980s. Actually, I suspect it underwent another reformulation more recently, because sometime in the 2000s, I started reading reports of Pyrex breaking, sometimes explosively, usually when taken from the oven and placed directly on a cold or wet countertop. This led to some people no longer trusting modern Pyrex, but since they don't remember vintage Pyrex having that problem, some people are probably seeking out older Pyrex pieces because they still trust those. Exactly how one identifies pre-2000 or pre-1980 Pyrex I do not know, and since the Internet as we know it today didn't exist prior to 1991, and didn't truly become "information at your fingertips" until years later, we don't really know if exploding Pyrex became an issue after the 1980s reformulation or a more recent reformulation or maybe happened to older Pyrex as well and we just didn't find out about it.
