Man, what a perfect time for you to update this build. I've decided to play it in a 5E meme campaign starting soon, and just checked your channel to get the latest version and see this.
My "classic" Elven Accuracy Rogue build has always been pure Arcane Trickster for that sweet Shadow Blade and/or Greater Invisibility at high levels. I've always mourned the lack of Assassinate, and never considered heavy investment in fighter. This seems like a very spicy and fun take on a assassin.
Personally I think instead of just four levels Rogue, four levels Ranger, 12 fight. Do 4 rogue, 4ranger, 4 divine soul sorc, 8fighter. Everything else Remains the Same assassin gloomstalker Battlemaster but you're not doing as much damage and exchanging for levels in damage-dealing Fighter 4 four levels and divine Soul sorcerer to give you better defensive options as well as better chances to hit.
People always forget the half elf options from sword coast. This let's you retain at least one of the wood elf options in exchange for 2 skills. Whichever is most important to you.
I would go Echo Knight instead of battle master because of Unleash Incarnation to gain an extra attack that works like Dread Ambusher so it stacks with everything.
@@DarthBoberEXMinMaxMunchking Thank u for the answer me, Actually Twilight Cleric was banned for our Campaing so i need to get some different way to get bonus or advantage on initiative check, i get some ASI free and i looking for some magic item maybe a weapon of warning (bow) or get weapon+2 (bow). Greetings from Chile.
Could you do a build based around the new Thri-Kreen race? Ie// holding 2 short swords with the dual weilder feat but also having another sword and shield in your main hands etc..
I like Harengon for assassin. Adding proficiency and at level 11 guaranteed a minimum of 10 on initiative d20. I also got ranger levels into gloom stalker to add wis to initiative and +5 from alert. Nothing like a +19 as a minimum 29 initiative with 20 Dex and 18 Wis. XD
@@DarthBoberEXMinMaxMunchking Yeah which makes sense. I just love the super initiative with Assassin so you always get advantage in round 1 and potential for auto-crit in any surprise.
The Gloomstalker feat "If you take the Attack action on *that* turn..." Is this build just one that is ludicrous full nova turn 1, or can it also play as a sustainable damage class throughout a longer fight with several enemies? Does anyone know the sort of damage it would do in a standard round assuming no action surge, or but including favoured enemy, hunters mark and and sneak attack, assuming the character is around 10-12. Additionally, if this character uses bonus action on r1, I assume it can't make sure it has advantage to use fay ancestry without a nearby ally? Thanks
Hmm what do you think about a Bugbear (new BB from monsters) version of this 🫠 I mean 2d6 more dmg on each hit seems very very tempting. Of course loosing out on the elven accuracy for not being an elf will probably be worse for dpr. But man 16d6 additional dmg could be very interesting, especially if they're crits.
NM I just mathed it out too, if you factor in the fact that you can only sneak attack once per round then yes the damage does drop off and the extra attack is better.
Curious how you would change it if it were to only have 2 classes instead? I was considering something like 17/3 bm assassin but maybe youd value the gloom more?
Gloomstalker is insanely good here, 2 more attacks and +3 to Initiative and +8d6 from Hunter's Mark... hard to not take it. And Battlemaster for Precision and Ambush Maneuvers. Yeah it's a 3-class mix minimum.
So my question for you my good Sir. Say you roll for stats and don't require ASI bumps as you can get your "desired" stats via half feats [ my rolls were dummy thicc plus I found a tome of quickened for +2 dex max so I'm at 22 atm]. So you get a feat slot back but lucky is banned from your game would there be any value DPR wise to do a GS3/Sin3/Fighter14 Over the 4/4/12 if your game intends to say go into mythic levels. I know the mythic lv question doesn't happen to many players let alone game so I'm curious how you might plan for that if you knew your game was heading that way.
@@DarthBoberEXMinMaxMunchking It was changed so that you can teleport to an equal amount of times to your proficiency bonus You'll lose 1 extra ASI from the half elf, but the free teleports might be worth the trade off
Useless for surprise cuz Hunters Mark is superior damage wise, but if you wanna preserve spellslots in smaller fights, Favored Foe is better than nothing and better than Favored Enemy for sure.
@@gozogerindo7945 no worries, I similarly completely missed the nerf on Twilight Cleric's Channel Divinity where it triggers at the end of creatures' turns instead of at the start, like it was in UA...
bonus action is used for Hunter's Mark in the surprise round for up to 8d6/28 avg extra damage. You could make a case and say "but you will miss some of those 8 attacks so it's probably less than 8d6 extra damage" and that's most likely gonna happen even with Elven Acc. "super advantage"... and then compare that to 1d8+15 damage you'd do if you hit that bonus action War Cleric attack, which ends up being similar enough in terms of damage output. but then when you compare it to Twilight's advantage on Initiative and 300ft darkvision (while still having similar damage via Hunter's Mark, because let's say at least 5 of those 8 attacks will hit)... well, there's basically no discussion to be had after that in my mind. EDIT: Also, you could just miss that bonus action attack completely too, so it's "high chance of 0 extra damage" vs. "low chance of 0 extra damage" Hunter's Mark
this build reminds me of one of my own but mine goes hard on espionage Changling(for shapeshift at will) 3 warlock (for devils sight + darkness combo) 6 monk way of the shadow (Shadow Step) 3 gloom ranger(Umbral Sight) build is invisible and can teleport in darkness, and when attacking is only visible if the enemy is a devil and only during the attack after that sorceror starts to look good for coffeelock shenanigans but im not sure how much its needed. in addition not really sure where to take the build after that so if you have any suggestions id appreciate it(or if you wanna take what im going for here as a future vid i wont mind)
@@DarthBoberEXMinMaxMunchkingthe only thing the build is really lacking is damage. there pretty much no circumstances where you dont have advantage, enemy can never tell where you are so many spells become moot and its a dex build so lots of AOE dodging, 1 more level of monk and aoe dodging means no damage, and he is clearly highly maneuverable if we can get some consistent damage into the build the only way you wont get any use out of the character is if your dm gives every goblin, troll, giant, and so on truesight
@@zimzimph I want to point out having those sights naturally is extremely rare in dnd outside of magic. I just can't stomach the "1 attack per turn" problem of pure Rogues, I gotta slap at least 6 Fighter levels in it for Extra Attack and 2 ASIs.
This is awesome.
It's great to see an updated version of an old build. Sounds like it could be a fun build to try out for a one-shot.
I actually never tried this one, unlike most of my other builds. Maybe I should...

Definitely viable, though that kind of spread leans more into optimization territory rather than minmaxing for a singular purpose.
Been waiting for this for so long😭😭😭 having a new min max munchkin vid to watch that is 😅
I'm sorry. I'm going to do better this year.
Huzzah!!!!

None really, I like my 2 skill proficiencies over 5 ft extra movement for this character

Unleash Incarnation makes a melee attack, not ranged.
Please, tell me how and with what I can best replace the elven accuracy? I just took a different race(Aarakocra)
It's irreplacable pretty much, so take whatever else you want really.
Will you make videos on Tanares RPG when its released?
Yes, definitely.
Munchking I use a Pallid Elf for Race, What about the feat "Gift of Chromatic Dragon" (FTD) for this build? Is better instead ASI +2 WIS?
It could give even more damage, but it's not needed. Initiative is the point of failure for this build, not lack of damage potential.

I'm back.
Hey munchkin, I’m just wondering how you would build a deathknight like character.
Oathbraker Paladin mixed with Shadow Sorc probably. Strong Sorcadin base with extra options for mechanical flavor.

It's a 1 round supernova with decent DPR after that.

I think it's a diminishing return, this character already has way too much damage potential, so maximizing its accuracy is more important in my mind.
Would you still consider the half elf over the newly revised Shad Kai?
most likely yes.
If you were using revised ranger, would you still go down the assassin rogue or pick something else
Yeah, I would
Why not 10 levels in rogue and 5 in fighter to take advantage of the sneak attack damage. Has anyone run the number diff?
I ran the numbers, 2 more attacks from lvl 11 Fighter outpaces Sneak Attack damage in most situations.
NM I just mathed it out too, if you factor in the fact that you can only sneak attack once per round then yes the damage does drop off and the extra attack is better.
hang on, how do you get plus 2 to dex with a half elf? i thought you can only get the +2 to charisma?
