  • A BIG reason why Seeburg Jukeboxes do not work correctly is: Lack of Proper Lubrication Oil. OLD oil turns to sludge or using the Wrong Oil causes Seeburg Jukeboxes to stop working or work only when they feel like it. In this Vid I show the oil I use, how to lubricate and discuss what to oil.
Ron and others on the Yahoo Seeburg Forum say SAE 20 oil is good to use. The reason I use 3IN1 Motor Oil is because it is 20 weight SAE non detergent oil made for motors. It is inexpensive and sold at my local Lowes.
    Footnote:
These videos are numbered starting with 1 when I bought it. Bought a Seeburg STD3 Sunstar Jukebox for $50 from a storage unit. Documenting this Seeburg Jukebox Restoration Project from the start - no script - just rambling. Goal is to help other novice Seeburg Jukebox restorers get a feel for what I am doing.
If you think this video may be helpful to others click the Thumbs Up LIKE button above to help other Seeburg Jukebox owners find it. If it helped you - please leave a comment.
I am not a professional jukebox repair person. I am just learning by doing and reading the manuals. I also get tons of advice from the yahoo group seeburg forum. I might provide bad advice unintentionally. Hoping you just might learn a thing or two.

To get oil at those hard to reach places, I have used one of those
flexible plastic drinking straws. I let the drop run down inside the
straw to where it needs to get to. Works great to get oil down there to
that hard to get at (and sticky without oil) safety plunger.

Thanks for the lube tips! I did not know that old grease locks up the mechanism. I cleaned out all the old solid grease junk and relubed everything. My old Seeburg Select-O-Matic 200 library unit is purring like new again.

You should be using Lubriplate 630-a. From my understanding that is what the factory used and that is what I used for years when I used to work on these jukeboxes. The Lubriplate 630-A is a Calcium bases grease that is applied as a very thin film and does not attract water. The problem with 3n1 oil is it goes everywhere it isn't suppose to. The only place 3n1 oil goes is in the oil port of the motor.

+Fred Wern Aero's Lubriplate goes on a few shafts that slide, especially where the Left/Right stylus movement for changing to B-sides happens and also on the pin and hole where the reject lever functions. All the pivot spots take a drop of the 3-in-1 SAE 20 electric motor oil, as well as the felt on top of the worm gear (one drop) in the very top hole and fill up both motor fill tubes.

Where do I pick up Lubriplate 630-a locally? I checked Google and all I can get is results from online retailers.

Very good. My book shows the recommended oiling points, and in every case, excluding the motor bearings, it says to drip one single drop. In the HVAC industry we use an oiler tube called a "Zoom Spout" oiler. You may want to check that out. It has a telescopic tube that you can use to get into very tight spots, it telescopes out about 12 inches. Extremely well suited for this typed of work. Of course you would have to discard the contents as the oil in the oiler is probably not correct, but you could do that and then put your 3 in 1 20 grade oil in it....Sarge...

That's fantastic!! I may try that for applications where my Zoom Spout oiler can't reach. Good stuff...Ol Sarge...

Most game, vending and jukebox distributors sold Zoom Spout oilers. Many would mix it half and half with Marvel Mystery oil.

A clock oil applicator (sometimes called a needle applicator) works quite will in very tight places (filled with the correct oil/ or light lithium grease for this application)

On the seeburg not playing B side , the caridge shifts over , then the motor reverses back , . all you need to do is clean the contacts on the mech , even the reversing switch and you should have it . these machines can give problems not covered in any service or trouble guide !!!!

My Seeburg takes the coin, allows me to select a track and then does nothing. No scanning, absolutely nothing. Do you think this could solve my issue? Thanks

the other 3 in one oil you refer to is actually caustic and bad for mechanisms people used to use it for oiling sturmey archer 3 speed hubs on bicycles but over the years it leaves a glaze on the parts and eventually the gears start slipping requiring the hub internals to be completely stripped and cleaned then rebuilt the correct oil for sturmey hubs is automatic transmission oil for cars

I just picked up a Seeburg LS1 and was told it doesn’t work. I’m worried to plug it in. Any pointers? I am used to the Rowe machines.

To get to gears that are hard to get to get some fish aquarium tubing and it will fit right on the nipple of this 3 in 1 bottle. Watch my jukebox troubleshooting update video to see how I did it.

This video shows the exact mech my unit has. My problem is as soon as a 45 is dropped in place and the needle touches the record, it rejects and moves on to the next record. Rinse and repeat until the memory is empty. Only thing I see "wrong" is on the front lower right of the unit a relay, a plastic cog, some wires..look to be all held "floating" with 2 black round rubber bands. both of those are broken but the whole thing is still sorta floating. Sometimes it will play a record. And usually once it plays 1, it works for a while. Tonight all it will do is load, drop the needle, then reject. I can post a video if it helps...

+Lane Dortch That sounds like a stuck "reject" switch. Usually those are a hidden non-descript rounded metal pin on the side or back of the unit, used to reject the current record selected. They can really get stuck at times and you'll need something like a pair of micro side flush cutters to grip the button and pull it free. Look for something that looks like a finishing nail with the head rounded, it will either be flush with the frame of the juke, or just proud of the surface. When working correctly it should protrude 1/8" to 3/16" of an inch and move freely and spring back, it activates an internally mounted leaf switch.

Can I ask you a question? I just inherited an SS160 that was in storage for 15 years. The motor/mechanism that goes back and forth to scan and pick up the records won’t move at all after the unit is powered on. Can you offer any pointers on how to repair this? It did work on initial inspection of the unit last week and played a few records. But, it’s since stopped moving.

Any ideas? My Seeburg will pick the disc, present it to the needle then put it back in the rack without playing it. What can be wrong? Thanks in advance.

I'd love the answer to this question as well. My newly acquired Seeburg SPS160 does exactly the same thing. Racks it up, needle drops, comes back up, puts the record back in the stack. HELP! :)
