  • A common request is learning how to take a line of some sort - an infinity symbol, a state outline, a heartbeat or any other shape and attach some text right into the outline. Here's a quick demo on how to accomplish this in Inskcape. Enjoy!

    I’m one of the many longtime Adobe CC users want to break free. The trace feature in Illustrator has an expand function that allows you to easily pull parts away from your drawing. This really helps with color separation in silkscreen printing. Is there a similar function in Inkscape? Thank you for sharing you talent.

    Hi Wendy, this is really helpful, thank you. I hope you are well and I was wondering if you are you still out there using Inkscape & helping us newbies? I would like to replace names and a date embedded in an infinity symbol I found on Google images with personalized names and a personalized date so that I can print it out to make a pattern that I can then carve into wood for a wedding gift, using my scroll saw. Would you be able to help me with how I could possibly do that?

    I bought a svg file of a monogram door hanger off Etsy. It has space in it to put a last name. I have created the last name and put in there but can’t figure out how to weld the two together to make the words one with the monogram so I don’t have overlapping lines. Once created I will use to cut on CNC machine. If you could help with this would be great. Thank you!

    When I try to do difference it isn't working. I tried your suggestion below and I don't have extra layers open. When I select difference, I get a side tool box with colors and stuff. I can make the "home" white with no outline but then It doesn't work to select and delete the lines that are left between the letters,

    Hello ive just watched your demo for the state and home video. I was wondering if it would be possible for you to demo for me how to get a word sticking half way up from the edge of he page as if I was punching it. My paper measures 4 x 12 so I want Merry Christmas to be half in and half out like you would with a punch to show the pattern. I’m all set up and ready to go. I would appreciate it very much. I’m in the UK. so i appreciate the time difference. Thank you so much. Anita

    Hi Wendy how do i combine a bitmap scan say of a moose and combine it to a frame along with other various items like a tree or bushes, to create a light box/diorama type effect, no need for all the layers but would like to know how to make a small frame to cut out with the various bits and pieces attached. Sounds crazy question but if you have time to look up light box/diorama I know you will know what I mean, thanks flower.

    You mentioned that the home had a ton of vectors. Is there a way to decease the amount of vectors? I have some images I am cutting out on a laser cutter, and due to the number of vectors it is taking longer than it should to cut. Thanks

    Hi! I watched your video about combing a word to look like part of a design and I’m struggling with a creation of my own while following your directions. I’m recreating a shirt I saw on Pinterest. It says Mom hard wife hard work hard on the inside of a thin lined box and along the bottom of the box it says “repeat”. Long story short, when I upload the image to my cutting board the lines of my box are all funky. When I create the box I’m doing the path-object to path-stroke to path. Is this not what I should be doing or what am I doing wrong that my lines aren’t staying straight? Please help I’m computer/Inkscape illiterate!

    I am not able to use the difference command.. I've followed your steps and all works until I get to the "difference" point... neither the short cut nor the drop down seem to work?

    • @WendyEdwardsPA
      @WendyEdwardsPA  7 лет назад

      When you click on it, look at the bottom left of the screen. If you see something telling you that everything is not paths, try clicking on the node editor (the one under the selector arrow), then click on your first object, hold shift and click the second, all the nodes should be highlighted, then click Path -> Difference. If when you're using node editor and you click objects, you don't see a bunch of nodes, then something has not been converted to a path.

      Thanks for taking the time to respond.. I had already tried what you suggested but kept working when that didn't work and discovered for some reason I had extra layers and when I ungrouped and worked to separate the layers then it worked! Been having fun playing with this new skill! Thanks so much.

    Hello, when I export the pnf file and attempt to place it on say a black shirt the white background is the background of the design attached. I believe I am not saving it correctly or not just selecting the design.

    • @WendyEdwardsPA
      @WendyEdwardsPA  7 лет назад

      So you're not cutting this with an electronic cutter like a Cricut? Usually I save as plain svg and then cut it with my Cricut. But if you want to print it on a transfer sheet, you would need to export it as a .png file. As long as when you traced your bitmap in the first step, you removed the background, the png should be transparent when you print it.

  • @MrCyncere

    I'm having trouble getting rid of the background of my design when I attempt to place it on a shirt. Would you mind explaining what I'm doing wrong? Thank you

    • @WendyEdwardsPA
      @WendyEdwardsPA  7 лет назад

      I'm not sure what you mean. When you cut it, aren't you just cutting the actual design? What background do you still have when you're applying the vinyl to your shirt?

    how do you make curly tails on letters

    • @WendyEdwardsPA
      @WendyEdwardsPA  7 лет назад

      It has to be a font that has the swirls, otherwise you would need to draw them yourself. Some font do it for you. Like Brannboll - if you type a number it translates that to the swoosh underneath. Some have full maps of characters like Samantha font.

    I am struggling with a circle monogram inside a pineapple...whatever I am doing wrong I can't slice the circle space out of the pineapple to insert my monogram...can you help?? I am brand new at this..

    • @WendyEdwardsPA
      @WendyEdwardsPA  7 лет назад +1

      Click on the Node Editor (the icon just under the selector arrow) and click the pineapple. You should see all the little nodes. Then hold shift and click the circle. You should see all the nodes of both pieces. Then click path -> difference and it should slice it out.

    • @WendyEdwardsPA

      It's exactly the same. It doesn't matter what shape you use. Follow the exact same steps but instead of pasting in the state outline,paste in an infinity symbol that you find on google. :)
