Great imformative video thank you so much l have owned my multi for 8 years it's just coming up on 30000 miles our local Ducati dealer wants £2000 that's about 2700 dollars approx to do the valve service no way I can afford that so this is great news I'm a mechanical engineer by trade having worked on aircraft for 50 years so it was only the service reset that was a problem . Spongy rear brakes on these bikes have always been a problem the trick is to raise the rear caliper above the level of the reservoir this will allow any trapped air to escape . I went one further and added a bleed nipple to the brake rear brake line where it meets the ABS unit it's solved all the braking problems . Again many thanks Stephen
stephen newton , poppycock, Mate. If you are an engineer, you've got 2,000 Pounds for a Service. The issue is whether it's fair to charge that much. And, I say it is not - your dealer is crooked. Therefore you should call them out for the thieves they are and do it yourself.
I wish to thank you for the series of these videos as just because of those I was able to do all the same services to my own bike, without getting ripped off by some mechanic. Thank you sir!
Congrats on the most detailed Multi full -strip-service-maintance. It takes a lot of time patience, tools and knowledge for all this. I did a quick shifter install on my 950 and it took me one week to do it. I basically had to get to the injectors, meaning I had to strip the whole bike. way more fairings and screws on the newer models.
Just finished viewing all your 8videos about the Multistrada! You have done an amazing job man! I also do maintenance to my Sf848 and monster S2R800....but your job was amazingly described! Congrats! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
I wish I lived near someone like you. I don't believe I have the necessary tools or skills to do all the work you do but I would love to learn. I got a good deal on a 2012 Multi but it needs as much or more work done to it than yours does. And I don't want to spend tens of thousands bringing it back to life. It only has 22k miles on it but it was rode hard and put away wet every time it seems.
Wow,impressive videos, you earned a sub. I am one week away from getting a 1200 multistrada 2012 with 24k km. But it is in impeccable condition except for the dreaded desmo service, but for the first time I think i will take it to the dealer.
Anyone who is removing the rear tire should consider service on the rear brake. The bleed screw is located on the bottom of the caliper requiring removal and inverting the caliper... Impossible to do with the tire on... A very good set of videos..
I have a 950S and the rear brake pedal was set the same. Really weird to have to push so far to engage it. It'd also be nice if they added some form of bite to the pedal, very slippery in the wet! Great video again. This playlist is gold 👍👍👍
Great video, very professional in depth explanations! Was very informative to say the least. I have a question, I have a 2015 Multistrada 1200s dvt with about 17k km on it, how long in time or mileage do the belts last? Can I check visual or not? Thanks
Those bolts on the sump I believe came from Ducati with the micro encapsulated red loctite from the factory, they also do that sometimes on bodywork bolts with a little 3mm hex head and something especially on Multistrada will damage the brass inserts in the plastic fuel tank, much fun after that, not sure why the factory do that but that's not the first time I've seen those bolt head stripped especially with age, with no fault of the owner.
Amazing series of videos!! The only thing I noticed is that you had the calipers hanging from the brake lines which (as far as I know) could damage the lines. Anyway great videos and great work!
Thanks! You're right, it's best not to let the calipers hang. Extremely important on cars, but less critical on bikes since the calipers are light and don't pull on the lines all that much.
Hi there. Firstly, thanks for a brilliant set of videos. During the brake and clutch bleeding I saw you using the conventional open/close method on the bleed nipples, which can be a real pain when working alone. Have you not tried using speed bleeders? Personally I think they’re the dogs bollocks. Well worth a look.
@@PracticalEnthusiast Many thanks, I can understand why most don't do it, as they are around $250 here in the UK, not certain Ducati even bother to change them on the Desmo?
Oh yikes, that's too much. I think I paid around $20 per gasket in the US, but then again mine isn't a DVT so perhaps that's the difference. I would doubt that the Ducati shop would change them out, and at that price, I wouldn't either until there was a leak.
Thanks for these very informative videos, Ducatis can be somewhat overwhelming if you're not used to working on them. What's your go to degreaser/cleaner that's in the spray bottle? Keep the vids coming.
I didn't. There are so many options out there, and all are so similar, that you almost have to just pick a manufacturer and stick with it. I tend to choose Michelin more often than not.
Hello. Do you know where I can purchase a dash unit for a 2010 MTS 1200S where can be shipped in Asia? The display has faded and LCD is not clear anymore. Thank you!
Hi, I need some advice please. I downloaded the diagnostic software and submitted a license request as you show in the video. After half a year, still no answer. I tried it several times. Thanks for any advice.
Hi there, I’ve watched your vids before and brilliant 👍🏻 I have a 2013 Touring S with engine error light on. I changed plugs as rear cylinder lower plug was wet/fouled so new plugs in and light went out and bike felt amazing but now lights crack on and engine seems back to having a slight misfire. What pc programme did you use please. Thanks Howard
Very nice videos on servicing the Multistrada 1200 2010. I have a 2011 and it now needs a valve adjustment and eventual maintenance reset. Will the software you used work on the 2011 Multistrada 1200S ?
Ok, but why Motul 300V?! It quickly loses its properties and is thrown after a little milleage. This oil is good for sport bikes to ride on track when you change oil after few sessions
Great job. Well explained ! I’m thinking of buying a 2009 1100s Ducati Monster. It has 23,000 miles on it. I’m in Ohio and it’s in Miami Florida. They want 6300 for it with not maintenance records. Do you have any advice? Thanks!!
Edit: I just realized you said Monster. I thought you wrote Multistrada for some reason. The price is close to correct. I would think that bike should be in the $5k range. The lack of maintenance records is unfortunate, but honestly that's going to be the case with most used Ducatis.
Would it be the same on a 2018 multistrada 950? Same software and ame OBD2 adapters? I wanna learn how to do my valves so bad!! That’s the only thing it needs to be done Great video! Very helpful! Just awesome Thanks
Hello again @Practical Enthusiast! I'm finding that I keep having more and more questions the further I dive into the bike. So thanks for answering them as best you can! Context: My bike is a 2010 Ducati Multistrada 1200 S and has been sitting for just over 3 years. Odometer 13,600 miles. The tachometer oil LED light is ON. First question: I need to change the oil in the bike and I noticed there was a sticker next to the oil cap that says "Use Only Shell Advanced Ultra 4." I purchased the same Motul synthetic oil that you used in your video and I just wanted to make sure that there wouldn't be any issues if I just drained out the old oil and replaced it with the Motul oil. Not sure if this would cause issues or If I should be alright. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Second question: With the possibility of doing the oil change myself. I noticed that you also changed/cleaned the oil filter net as well. I was curious if you knew how often and or if this needed to be changed. Given the context (see above) of my bike, I was curious about your opinion If I should change/clean the oil filter net? Or if I should be fine with just draining and replacing the oil (given question 1 isn't an issue). Thanks for all of your help!
You won't have any problems with using the Motul oil. Ducati puts the Shell Advance sticker on all their bikes and I'd wager most bikes old enough to no longer be serviced at the dealer never see that oil again. It will be fine! I would recommend that you pull out the strainer screen and give it a cleaning. It's possible it's never been removed before with the lower miles your bike has.
@@PracticalEnthusiast Awesome! Thanks again for the advice! Did you use a specific brand for the gasket sealer or do you have any recomendations on what to look for?
Any RTV will work, but I like to use the quick setting RTV from permatex called "The Right Stuff". It comes in a 1 minute set time version which is what I use.
I found out your channel way back on your 996 video and was kinda sad you let that go.Good to see you back on a Ducati...did you skip the fuel filter or did i missed it somehow?
I didn't replace the filter, but I suppose that gives me something to do this winter! I miss the 996 too. I shouldn't have sold it. I have something coming that may make up for it though. :)
Great videos. I would like to replace the rubber grips as well. Don't seem to be able to find any that will fit my 2013 Multi. It has the heated grips same as yours (I have replaced the heated pads a couple of times - not easy to un-stick the pads but a lot, a lot cheaper than buying a new set from Ducati). Any chance you can share where you got yours from?.
I picked the grips up from Cycle Gear, they are "Pro Grip" brand. I think they are somewhat a universal fit. They are extremely tight and take some force to install over the heated pads. But once installed they're great!
@@PracticalEnthusiast Many Thanks. How about a Multistrada 1200 DVT or the 1260 DVT belt and valves as a new project. Not a lot of technical info out there.
Hi, Regarding the heated grips, these are the standard Ducati one, i have the same and i need to change the grips too. Do you mind telling me which sets of grip fits? Because the internal diameter of the grip needs to match the diameter of the heated component, and not the handle bar. Usually in a set of grips, you have one wider than the other to compensate for the throttle mechanism.
The grips I installed are made by ProGrip (model 699). They are generic motorcycle fit and not specific for Ducati heated handlebars. They were very tight to put on but it is possible as you can see in the video.
What was the spray you were using to clean? Also, does anyone know the ODB devices that would be compatible? Easy to find the 4 pin connector, but the actual ODB2 module has so many options.
It's not a feature of the software, but if you have a piggyback fuel controller (like a power commander) you can connect your computer to it and save the map(s) that are stored on it just in case.
