    Thanks for these beautifully crafted reviews Dr. Zach. I switched to Barricade after your advice of using a template of my foot to select a shoe. I haven't gone back because they simply fit my fit like a lambskin glove. My gratitude for your advice is deep.

    I don't know Zach. I was very happy - finally - with the BOUNCE version of this shoe. I thought Adidas had finally dialed it in with the changes they made last year - and then that had to go and mess things up again. Since I switched to the Barricade 2023 by back, my hips, and my knees no longer hurt and my movement on the doubles court has vastly improved. From what I have read and what you have stated on the REPETITOR foam system, I am not sold on it (one online reviewer wrote, "Repetitor is soft and forgiving, while the Repetitor+ is a brick"). I have stocked up on all the Barricade 2023s I can find. What would be the next closest thing to that shoe right now Zach when those run out?

    • @matmac888
      @matmac888 8 месяцев назад +2

      I have the 2023 version and I think they fit really nice and they are really comfortable with the bounce foam. I think the thick tongue on the 2024 and the shorter length may make the shoe very tight in sizing, tennis warehouse is saying to go up 1/2 a size for a true fit in the 2024, I'm glad I got the 2023 as I think they could be a better shoe.

  • @philrasky
    @philrasky 7 месяцев назад +3

    Seems like the shoe got 0.8 oz heavier and likely (from Zach's review) warmer going from 2023 to Barricade 13. Since I'm happy (so far) with 2023 shoe, doesn't sound like a great upgrade. Firmer padding would be good but not at that cost.

    a) I'd prefer Adidas to put the "adidas" logo on the lateral side and the 3-strap one on the medial side (i.e., switching over from what Gen 12 did) for more eye-catching look;
    b) Please note that Adidas's Men's US 8.0 size is corresponding to 255mm while most of the other major brands' US 8.0 is 260mm. Interestingly, the rest of Men's sizes are the same as other brands. (I'm a long time Adidas fan and thus notice this "interesting" fact from the official size charts. No wonder Adidas shoes always feel a bit more snug compared with other brands. Yup, I'm wearing US 8.0)

    This shoe seems to be getting hammered in the comments section of most online retailers. Not for it's fit or comfort, but for it's lack of DURABILITY. Comments seem to be everywhere! I did not see any red flags in that department in your review, Zach. Any ideas of what the issue might be with that?

    Amazing review as always Zach, helping the people so much.
    Incredible help 🙏🏽
    My review of this shoe:
    Adidas have really gone backwards and forwards in general with their shoes especially the Barricade.
    This one is…
    Snug,
    Lighter feeling to older models,
    Manoeuvrable,
    But a flat to the ground feel with not much pop out the ground,
    Horrific breathability -
    Your feet and shoes are literally saturated within 1hr of moderate play.
    Insane how bad this is for a product made for tennis.
    I would never buy this shoe again.
    Stick to Asics people

    I have used Barricades for 3 generations now and sadly this 13 falls short for me. It felt good for 90 days and now it produces ankle, knee, and hip pain. I am wearing an old pair of Barricades while I wait for an old stock Barricade to arrive. The containment and support was great but not perfect right out of the box. Less responsive right out of the box. After they wore down a little the responsiveness was worse, the containment was much worse, the support was the cause of injury. Sadly this is going to be my last pair despite buying so many of these over the last few years. RIP Barricade. Maybe they'll bring back some stiffness in the 14 but I'm not even going to try the 14 unless they change it drastically. Gel Resolution it is I guess.

    Hey Doc, does it make any sense or is it wise to alternate between two good tennis shoes that both work for your feet every time you replace a pair or should you just stick to one proven brand each time? I wondered if the same pair every time might cause some muscles and tendons to fatigue over time given their unique characteristics, while alternating different shoes might slightly alter which muscles and tendons are worked based on the unique characteristics of each shoe - do you follow? What are your thoughts on this?

    • @BenOstler
      @BenOstler 4 месяца назад

      Im not the doc, and I’d love to hear his thoughts on this. But I have some personal experience. There are 6 pair of barricades waiting in the closet for me when I wear out the two pair of barricades I’m cycling between right now. All that to say, I know something about committing to a shoe.
      I also own a babalot shoe which I stopped wearing when I switched to the barricades a year ago.
      Anyhow, I’ve had some serious foot pain for the past couple weeks. I attributed this entirely to an increase in play (went from playing 3-4 times per week to 6 times per week). The pain got bad enough that I decided to wear my babalot shoes just to try something different. Admittedly though, the bigger motivation for me was that wearing the babalots would save tread on my barricades while I was not playing my best due to the foot pain.
      Surprisingly, after a session of wearing them on the court and then a day of rest thereafter, my foot pain is significantly reduced. I had given my feet several days of rest in the barricades and even busted out a new pair of the barricades to see if I’d bottomed out the foam. Neither of those things helped. But the change of shoes did help significantly.
      I’ve tested this a couple of times now and had similar results each time. It’s a long way to say it, but I think you’re onto something!

    • @markmoore5981
      @markmoore5981 4 месяца назад

      @@BenOstler I fell in love with the Barricade 2023 too and I did the same thing and bought up 6-8 pairs on sale over the last 6-8 months. Like you though, I am now starting to develop some foot and ankle issues. I have very flat feet and I have always trusted Barricades to be one of the best stability shoes on the market. Couple that with Dr. Zach's general praise for the shoe, and I am more than a little surprised that I am having these issues. Could the Barricade lack enough medial support and cushioning for larger players or over pronators? I switched over - like you did - to another shoe to see if it made a difference (in my case, the Lacoste AG-LT 23 ULTRA, another good all-court shoe) which Zach specifically suggested for players with flat feet. Like you, it has made a difference. After two weeks, my ankles have much less pain and my feet are starting to ache less. Now the question is, will I go back to the Barricades and how long will this last?

    I am considering going to this shoe since I am having problems with the Mizuno Enforce Tour. They are wearing after about 2 months on the inside (proximal?) of the heel where the tread splits. I lose about half of the material there, leaving about a half inch of tread left to stabilize me. I am a heavy hc slider and weight about 200lbs, what I can surmise is I am deforming the outsole where it splits when I start sliding because I must be slightly heel-heavy in the way I initiate a slide. Have you ever heard about wear like this? This is my first tennis shoe with significant gaps on the outsole. The shoe is great other than this problem I am having.

    This new barricade has been my best fit after trying on a dozen shoes this week. I’m somewhere between a 12.5 wide and 13 wide. But for this shoe I went to a 13.5 and it’s actually working great. Strange that it’s so true to size yet my foot just seems very well placed in a 13.5.
    I don’t mind the harder foam. I’m by far heavier than your average tennis player and at least in my head it stands to reason that denser foam should hold up longer under my excessive load. No shoe has nice comfort for me after the first month anyways. So while this one didn’t start super comfortable, I’m hopeful that it stays at this acceptable level for a long time.
