they have to understand that the earlier half of Berserk was done in the 90s, when A LOT more of that type of content was prevalent and widely uncensored in the manga world. there were plenty of mangas with even more explicit content read by kids, and that was normal back in the day.

The whole journey Casca has to go on to get her mental state back to where it once was and the pain Guts feels knowing his presence alone reminds her of the pain she endured is masterful story telling.

They even dare to speak about misoginy when Farnese's character development was the best of all characters, Luca takes care of her "sisters" and even if they are "ladies of the night" she sets limits to their clients and even got something going on with Skull Knight and Schierke has become an extremelly powerful witch for her age, she's the only one who could pull Guts out of berserk mode, just to name a few female characters. Even the little witches defend themselves against Isidro's pranks (that one time he got some girls to have their bloomers exposed and the rest of the little witches got together to beat the crap out of him) and even Charlotte is a better character than a lot of female characters in other manga/anime.

Social Justice Groups and Religious Groups want to exploit it for their own virtue signal or moral crusade causes.

Imagine only looking at one specific event in a story and determining the entire thing is "bad". It's also extremely disgusting to talk about Kentaro Miura like that, given how much time and effort he put into creating such a masterpiece. Twitter has me smh as usual.
Not to mention how his work singlehandedly became an immense and widespread source of inspiration for others whom took inspiration from Berserk.

This is really weird to me. Berserk never tried to make light of the issues it's characters went through. They were always handled with lots of weight and had immense consequences on them and the plot.

Berserk is there to be read watching the world the characters love in go to shit but also watching these characters grow. The biggest crime berserk has done is cut out amazing arcs in the animes like the blackswordsman arc and lost children.those were such good arcs that showed you while guys is the hero hes also an extremely broken and I'm some cases fucking terrifying. Guts is an amazingly written protagonist deadass one of my favourites and a character who has gone through so much.

I'll admit that Berserk is as dark as the void of space, but it has a reason HOW and WHY it's as dark and brutal as it is. If Guts never went through what he went through as a child, we wouldn't have him as he was in Golden Age. If what happened to him in the Eclipse didn't happen, we wouldn't have the best story of healing and redemption in history. Like the void of space, there are bright moments in between the darkest parts to build up the pain of those tragedies and make it feel fulfilling when our characters, Guts and Casca especially, overcome the darkness.
Also, that whole "The author has it in the story and endorses it as thus" is such a bulls*** argument to make. Orwell has a horrifying dystopian Authoritarian government in 1984, but he clearly doesn't support that. Go Nagai made Devilman, but I doubt that makes him a Satanist. Robert E. Howard created a gun-slinging puritanical preacher, but I doubt that he's a fan of the Hellfire Sermon. Hajime Isayama basically created a Dark Fantasy WW2 setting (almost literally, just flip the world map and you got AoT's world), but I doubt he's a Nationalist Socialist that supports putting minorities in Ghettos or using child slave soldiers.
It's not the content itself but how it's used in the story. To those curious, I believe they're talking about a moment in Guts' childhood where a large man named Donovan bought him for one night from his adoptive father, Gambino, and did such unsavory actions that I don't want to recount them. That's also what they claim to be "Mysoginistic," like the idiots they are. They forget that the story contextualized it as something horrid, a dark part of reality that those who give in to desire ultimately inflict on the helpless. It's used to explain why Guts has problems being with people, doesn't like physical contact, and nearly loses his s*** in a sex scene with Casca down the line that can only be described as the most beautiful scene of such nature I've ever seen. It's why he doesn't trust, it's why he's constantly alone, and his first kill on the battlefield WAS Donovan.
It's not just the What, but the Why and How.
Also, to those saying that Miura deserves to have died months ago, from the lowest chambers of my heart and the deepest recesses of my inner soul: F*** You.

i have no idea why they wouldn't look into berserk for it's genuine oversexualization of schrieke, that being the only instance (in my opinion) of a senselessly graphic moment with no genuine weight or reason behind it. the complaints some of them are actual complaints, but they instead take the best and most realistic depictions of sexual abuse trauma and the challenges of overcoming it and believe that theres no meaning behind it because theyre as complex as a screen door and can't see past anything surface level

I haven't read Berserk myself but EVERY person I know who *has* read it, owe so much of who they are to this manga. I don't think they count Berserk as just "entertainment". I also have many stories close to my heart that have moved me, and I know Berserk's gonna be one of them soon. So I can't even imagine how tilted Berserk fans must feel that their story trends on twitter because of shitty posts like these. Sadge.
Honestly i was expecting for something like this to happen on twitter after his passing. And even if you see it as just entertainment they would watch game of thrones or euphoria and not talk about heavy themes in those media. So the statement doesnt have sense from the very start.

Berserk is about a seasoned veteran lone swordsman. Having to survive on his own, in a world that puts you in the dirt. It is a very real anime and manga. Real life is not like in the Disney movies. It is about fighting on, even when you’ve lost everything and everyone you loved. It is about surviving alone when betrayed, and living on. Even though you’re the last warrior alive left. Keep fighting, never give up.
People shouldn’t be wishing death on anyone. My partner and I both watched berserk after he discovered it, and we both enjoyed it, he read the whole manga. He was absolutely devastated to find out it might never be finished. Don’t wish death on anyone - no one likes to go through it.

I used to think that, then I saw the absolute depths of depravity these cultists will go to often for the pettiest things imaginable and now I ironically wish death upon the lot of them and will gladly spend eternity in hell if it means I get to drag all of them down with me, it's where they belong. All i gotta say about berserk is the time it represents is back when there was castles and bandits., women, kids and elder was beyond savind and irrelevant unless they had power or fame which back then wasn't alot since everyone killed each other before lands were any decent functional nations or of the sorts. So even though it is a fantasy fake af anime/manga, I still expect the expectations and realism of the times. Woman's rights and opinions to this day only started being a thing 300/400 years ago when people even a little especially before 1913 started to see notice or bothered caring. When I see an anime/manga that take place in the medieval times, i want main characters like the medievil times even though it isn't logical with the mythical creatures and the warlocks if that's understandable. I LOVE berserk with all my heart. My partner invited me to read it and his parents probably got upset with me at the time cause I spent days at their house just reading cause I couldn’t stop. Berserk , for those who fear of reading it presents all these problematic topics not as a form of just entertainment, it’s mainly presented as the real pain in life, it’s a tragedy, and the manga acknowledges it all the time how painful it is and how harsh are the scars these things leave on people, it’s really things that happen to real people. It’s a story about very broken people keeping up against the world. If you ever enjoyed the portray of reality in ouyasumi punpun or how crude with the human nature has been the squid game and shows like that or .. if you’re tired of the power of friendship saving the day for literally no reason… here when it happens. It happens for a good one.
Not to mention that Kentaro Miura’s artwork is straight up stunning, not only when drawing women and men but everything, monsters, buildings, goddamnit the armors are insane. I’m only sorry I didn’t start reading berserk earlier. I wish I could have enjoyed and supported Miura’s work long before his passing. R.I.P

One of brazil's greatest writers, jorge amado, wrote a book called capitains of the sand, about homeless orphans living in the beaches of bahia, northeastern brazil. In the book, the children are all sad, lonely and angry for having that life. in one scene, the leader of the group, after a specifically bad day, r*pes a woman in the street. It's not at all a glorification just because he's the main character and also not a one-sided "he is horrible and deserves death" because there's nuance. Of course this is not saying the MC was right, if you are anxious for a moral position. You get what led him to do that and this helps explain 1) that r*pe is not just men being horny, it's power, 2) that the MC wanted to feel powerful after confronting how powerless he was in society and 3) that (2) leads to this sort of violence. It's not a moral distinction, it's not judging and deciding who should die early and who should remain alive, it's a study on how that happens. I haven't read berserk yet, but I read there's a good representation of what trauma does to people, so, if I were to guess, I'd say my line of thinking applies to berserk as well.

I think it's dumb how people are in outrage over berserk. As a girl there are some scenes that make me uncomfortable but I think that is the whole point. It isn't supposed to be a happy go lucky manga that is rated G. It's a "dark fantasy" and it's supposed to overall portray a sad explicit story. That's why it's unlike any other. Plus if people don't like it just don't read it... I'm kinda tired of this generation having an issue with every little thing. Sadly it's my generation that gets involved.

Berserk is imo the best manga of all time. It's an incredibly dark story set in a seriously depressing world, and yet manages to have messages of hope, valor, being true to yourself and fighting for those you love.
Berserk protects itself by being too much for people, and I am absolutely all for it. I’m so happy my older Brother introduced me to this series though, it has been my absolute favorite series!

Berserk is and always will be one of the greatest Manga of all time these people can go talk all kind of crap they like but the fact that Berserk shows the straight up Ugly side of humanity and makes the reader feel so in connect with Guts through his struggles is just Masterpiece, also not to mention Berserk inspired so many books, stories, mangas, games is amazing.
Also if these people really care so much about women's rights and thier protection they won't sitting on thier ass on Twitter having an argument online and instead be actually doing something to make a change.
