    I did the 1.7 update. The trash can now work as the Menu button in addition to the original Menu button. It was a good change.

    Although I agree with your stance that a $1000 mark-up is insane, it is interesting that it says the OM Systems 150-600 has sync IS. I have the 150-600 L mount and although there is some interaction between the lens and camera body IS (lens IS controls pitch and yaw, IBIS does the rest, I believe), it is not as powerful as the dual IS that exists with a Panasonic lens mounted on a Panasonic body - which is more on par with Olympus' sync IS. So if the OM 150-600 has true sync IS, that does warrant some degree of mark-up over the FF mirrorless Sigma 150-600.
    But to put it in perspective, although I like my 150-600 a lot, its sharpness wide open and its autofocus could be a bit better. These issues are apparently improved in the mirrorless Sigma 60-600 4.5-6.3 DG DN, also for L-mount... which retails at $1,999. So if the OM 150-600 is indeed a rebadged Sigma 150-600, you are getting worse sharpness, slower autofocus and a shorter focal length range than a FF lens which is $500 cheaper - with the only upside being that it probably has better IS. Any softness will also be even more apparent with the OM-1's smaller pixels vs current L-mount cameras. So there is still every reason to question their pricing rationale!

    • @AlpacoFilms
      @AlpacoFilms  Год назад +3

      Oh man that's not a good sign! Yea, I agree with a certain degree of markup. But, $1000 is MUCH too steep. For adding the look to match the rest of their lineup and Sync IS. I would say $500 MAX upcharge. BUT I'm now also thinking they'll most likely have some sales throughout the year and maybe they'll be good to pickup then. But, this lens is simply not of interest to me! Thanks for saying something about your experiences and hopefully this one is not like that! OR since it IS a full frame lens, the only thing the MFT sensor will capture is the sharpest center portion. But, I'm not a lens designer and my knowledge of this stuff is honestly limited.

    • @Sheeno101
      @Sheeno101 Год назад +2

      @@AlpacoFilms I should say the 150-600 is still a sharp lens, but myself and others have noticed it to be a bit softer than expected wide open - lots of reviewers were happy with it though so it may be copy variation! But I think most agree the 60-600 is sharper - I suppose we'll never know until the OM 150-600 is in people's hands. For reference, I was shocked to discover that my Oly 40-150 2.8 with the 2x TC seemed sharper than my Sigma 150-600 in all the comparisons I did! This is just a testament to how sharp Oly lenses can be, so the OM 150-600 will be under a lot of scrutiny when it's compared against other lenses in the range.
      And yes, I was thinking the same myself - $1,999 would be a tolerable (albeit still quite steep) price for it, assuming it is just the FF lens with sync IS. For $2,500 it should at least have superior linear autofocusing motors of the 60-600 rather than the 150-600's slower stepping motors!

      @@AlpacoFilms it's hard to say what the associated costs are. I think people are upset at the mark up because they think OMDS is just greedy. But I think reality is, they don't have much choice but to sell it for that much to make a profit, after what they've invested to buy the lens, rework the electronics to get Sync IS to work, and the associated molds required for different aesthetics, like the zoom ring.
      If we compare it with the 100-400 lens, it's around $1000 for the Sigma version and $1700 for the Olympus. So, we can assume it would have to cost $700 more than the Sigma version for them to make a profit. For the 150-600, the Sigma DG DN is $1700. After the rebrand cost ($700), it'll be $2400. Since it's listed as $3000, we can assume that the extra $600 consists of the associated costs to integrate Sync IS. The rebrand cost may also be higher than $700 for the 150-600, since it is a more expensive lens.
      I do think they are taking more profit than what's necessary to just survive, but that's not unreasonable for them to do so. I think it is a good thing for consumers if that $ is reinvested to bring us better lenses and cameras in the future. If they price it much cheaper than $3000, then it may really hurt the sales of the 300/4, which is priced at $3700. After all, the 300/4+2x is a really good combo, but it is 600mm F8, which would be slower than the new 150-600 being F6.3 at 600mm. Plus, it doesn't have the flexibility of a zoom. When OMDS price and design their products, they have to do so in a way that creates clear separation between their other products. Otherwise, the new product will be redundant, and just a waste of R&D costs. They have to weigh in many factors, including how the release of a new product will affect their current lineup. The people that complain about the lens' size just don't get it. If they made it light, small, can zoom, and does 600mm at F6.3, then what do you think will happen to the sales of the 150-400? There needs to be clear product distinctions.

    I came from the Canon 7D Mark II and the EM-1 Mark III and OM-1 have the menu button in the same place...

    • @AlpacoFilms
      @AlpacoFilms  Год назад

      The OM-1 buttons for most of the buttons are in the same place. The Menu button is NOT. The menu button on the Mark II is on the right. The Menu button on the OM-1 is on the Left top. As I explained, the importance for me is for when I'm on a ledge or rock climbing and need to access the menu. This very reason has been why I've sold the Mark III and the OM-1. It made my job a bit harder. Again, the Mark 2 is the one with the button placed in the right hand side. I show it in the video.

    If the OM-1 II had a dial instead of a D-pad, I would have two already. Why do manufacturers not want to make digital cameras with one dial each for shutter speed, aperture, and ISO? OM1 left side buttons including the top ones are all cumbersome, next to that the dials are not that great (get sticky if you have not the cleanest hands and dial badly) - maybe a real dial for the dpad could be great, on the other hand the OM1 still is a great camera - have the Lumix G9II next to that for video - has alos cumbersome left buttons (play button for instance) - about the 150-600 - I use the 300mm F4 Pro - combined with the 2x TC I reach 600 (allthough at F8) - gives still sharp images

    I strongly suspect the these three "new" product is most like due to the "Olympus" naming issue, that being said, the 9-18 is welcome if they add some weather sealing and I have no expectation for the om1 mark ii. But oh boy, the 150-600, with all due respect is a stupid lens. There is a reason people don't use super telephoto lenses too often, by "super telephoto" I mean longer than 600mm, because at that focal length, the heat wave, stabilization and keeping subject in frame problem will be insane, at least from my experience, there is no point sacrificing one or two stop of the maximum aperture for that additional focal range. m43 sensor is already at a disadvantage for low light situation, with such dark aperture, it will struggle even at cloudy days, so the correct strategy should be either offer larger aperture at same EFV or same EFV and aperture but with better compactness.

    • @AlpacoFilms
      @AlpacoFilms  Год назад +1

      Thank you for saying this! I didn't even know about the heat wave stuff. I don't often shoot passed 150mm (on MFT) that's the longest lens I own. I don't shoot any birds though. You're very right about them having to end using the name "Olympus" that's what I suspect as well. I was REALLY hoping they'd remake the Four Thirds 150mm F2. THAT would be a fun lens OR maybe a faster 300mm. Clearly size is not an issue for them.
