  • Double OG Simon Latu shares his story of redemption. Growing up in east Auckland with a christian family , he unfortunately fell into a life of crime.
After returning from Australia in the early 2000's he landed in prison where he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
After serving almost 18 years, he was granted parole and has founded, alongside another former inmate Petani Fa’avae, a youth service provider called “ONE EIGHTY TURN,” where they advise the youth not to make the same mistakes they did.
Theme music: The Plowman: Steady marching. • The Plowman - Steady M...

Brother can you Reach out to Simon Latu and tell him in 2004 he gave me a Bible when I was in Jail and it wasn’t easy but I am a Baptised Christian and am married and am doing life now. We both went to penrose High school together. It is still not easy though and life is still hard and quiet but I’m with God and that’s enough for me brother.

17 Calenders Simon spent behind those walls, Sharing a cell with another man, smelling eachothers shit, no real privacy for 17 years, getting told what time to go back to your cell and what time to get out of your cell. Being told what time to eat breakfast lunch and dinner. Being told when and what time you can see your family! All you drillers and youth need to learn from this man and others, they've lived this life and are telling you it's not worth it!!! Live your life free and do something meaningful and positive! Mean story Toko and great interview💯 King Dave!

I hear what you mean. I was so shocked to learn about the realities of gangster rap. Dr Dre never wrote any of his own rhymes, was never himself gang afflicted or respected in that world. Hasn’t ever shot someone nor sold an illegal drug in his real life yet has 100’s of songs advocating for a life he never lead. All those iconic songs and the stories are from other peoples lives or just made up.

The timing, honesty and the reality of Saimones story is what the youth need to hear today. He has found faith and it led to redemption. I hope your story serves as a a remainder to today’s youth. You and Petani story is what is needed to at least inform youth Policy in some way. My prayer is someone sees this and makes them at least question some of their decisions. God Bless Uso.
