Yeah it's easier to become a SOC analyst for a couple reasons. 1. There are more SOC analyst positions than pentesting positions 2. The barrier to entry into SOC analyst is lower than penetration tester
@maxdemontbron9720 If I may add this as a semi-noob myself: SOC analyst/ DFIR also has objectively way more free ressources and labs and courses available. Just one powerful example alone, Security Blue Team (BTL1/BTL2) has the whole SOC training for free! 😮
If you want to be a pentester than do that... But be prepared to learn how to code. Be prepared to do white box, black box, and cloud presentation testing. Above all else though, learn how to code... It is critical. Do not listen to anyone who tells you otherwise.
