The Rach 2 scene (multiple sequences, don't know off-hand which is the best) from the film Shine starring a then unknown Geoffrey Rush as pianist David Helfgott. Worth seeing as Rush picked up the Oscar for Best actor that year.
WATCH CASABLANCA FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!! Sorry... No shouting, I know... but WATCH IT! It will wrench out your heart and wring it and then put it back in and leave you breathless and happy and sad and exhausted and full and wanting to watch it again. And you will NEVER hear that song the same again.
You guys a hilarious! How can an entire generation never have watched Casablanca? Just a few weeks back I made my husband watch it, because he as well never saw it until the mature age of 45, and I went straight back to the piano and played "As time goes by", one of the most important songs ever! 😊😊😊
Interview with the Vampire (1994) is missing. Lestat playing the piano was such an iconic movie scene. And Amadeus (1984) straight up made me get a piano. I love your list though 💕
Adding to the old movies you might not have seen...you should check out Chico Marx in any Marx Brothers movie. The way he played was for comedic effect, but he was a master.
The Pianist is a little bit more than that. he was in hiding and a german general found him. and he said he was a pianist and the german asked in to play the piano to prove it. so thats why the scene takes place, in the end the german let him there and when the war ended he was finally free. (to put it simply)
@@PianoteOfficial Let me just add my two cents. :) Adrien Brody did awesome job with playing piano but the most complex parts in this movie were played by Polish pianist Janusz Olejniczak.
My favorite piano scene is probably from little women, not for the piano part but because I just cry everytime I watch it. When Mr Laurence offers Beth his daughter's piano for Christmas. That's my piano scene.
Oh, you "kids," you gotta binge on old Hollywood movies! Check out "Duck Soup" and other Marx Brothers films for Chico's (and Harpo's) trancendent playing. :) MU
Had to laugh. I don't know your fav. ones and you don't know mine - generational gap! But Casablanca? EVERYBODY has to see that one - right up there with Gone With the Wind (don't tell me you missed that too?) - both my parents' timeframe. But 2 real tearjerkers you did miss - both Bette Midler - Beaches (have 2 boxes of Kleenex ready) - the theme is one of the most powerful ever - Wind Beneath My Wings. Then watch The Rose - might need more Kleenex. Demise of Janis Joplin - her you missed for sure!
Jumping into the comments first before watching the video to say I’m going to be very disappointed if “La La Land” isn’t on the list. Edit: I was not disappointed.
You must see Casablanca - Bogart and Bergman together, the final scene at the foggy airport, Dooley Wilson on piano singing As Time Goes By. But no one is as much fun to watch as Claude Rains' hilarious on-the-take policeman. A classic black and white romance.
For non-Hollywood film, I enjoy 1. The Legend of 1900 (1998); 2. Secret (2007); and 3. Nodame Cantabile: The Movie I (2009). For Hollywood film, Cloud Atlas (2012) came to my mind. The Cloud Atlas Sextet is astonishing.
LOVED the Tom and Jerry submission! It was like one cartoon we would get on BBC tv that we made time to watch, and was one of my happier childhood memories. Thanks!
He’s polish and he’s hiding and then he’s found and then he plays piano. I mean sure, that’s all technically correct but... The fact that he’s a Jew and the person who finds him is a German officer are kind of relevant.
Great video guys!! Enjoyed every single minute of it!! Very on-point choices of piano movie scenes, still ... there is one epic scene which, I found to be missing and that is the piano jazz solo from the movie "The Legend of 1900" with Tim Roth. Just go and watch it ... EPIC!!
I totally agree with your Top 10, thank you so much for that! For me personally, definitely The Pianist as well, and I would add the anime Your Lie in April to the list, because they animated all the piano and violin scenes accurately for the whole series. ❤️
Oh! My goodness! I love all these piano moment. I can feel at all even I don't know how to play the piano or keyboard or melodica. Thank you. love you.🤗🙏🏼🥰
Wait, wait just one ever loving minute. Are you seriously, seriously saying that neither of you have ever seen Casablanca? I am not believing this, and you say “the gentleman”? What, are you saying, really, that you don’t know Humphrey Bogart, really. Seriously, you don’t know Ingrid Bergman. In the words of a great American John McEnrow, “YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS’. The brother, pianist, is, was Dooley Wilson.
a few years late, but when the film came out, there was a lot of press about what Adrian Brody did for the Pianist -- he practiced multiple hours every day, and did play certain passages in the film, but in the more complex ones the parts were played by the real pianist the movie was based on - which makes sense. But it's true, like Gosling, he did an incredible job learning in preparation for his role.
I don't have any additional suggestions, and you all picked some amazing songs in movies to review, but I did want to say, if you get a chance, you should actually sit down and watch Casablanca. Once you watch the whole movie, you'll see why it usually ranks somewhere in the top 3 on almost every single 'all time greatest movies' list that you can find. Usually #1 or #2 and truth be told, I never got what the hype was about until I watched it. It is quite literally almost sheer perfection in every aspect of a movie. Pure art.
The movie "Ray" had so many great piano scenes, but I won't try to list them all here. My two favorites are the seduction of his lead singer as they sat on the piano stool as he played, and that incredibly beautiful intro to "Everyday I Have The Blues"....
i know that you defiantly rated the to 10 of the greatest movies at all times BUT you missed a masterpiece ( and this is shame ) which is the movie " the legend of 1900 " , you should watch this and reconsider this video. thank you for this 30 minutes of joy , it was great
This must be someone else's and not your original top ten list Since you never saw casablanca. BTW I am learning a lot from your tutorials, Your lessons are great. I heard Brody learned piano for the movie
Ryan Reynolds learned to play piano like that in less than half a year?! ... Not gonna lie, kinda makes me want to give up. I've been learning for the better part of 9 months now and I'm barely at the "able to slowly learn songs in the Easy Piano songbooks" level.
Ryan Reynolds WISHES he could play like this! its Mr Gosling that really shines on this one. Some people just have an amazing talent and it leaves the rest of us wondering!
Hi! I have a doubt. I’m just a beginner. How to know what fingers to play each note? Like for eg , if some keys are far away, what fingers should we use and how do we know that ? Thank you :)
So nice to hear all the film music. Great job guys. Lisa you told me ones that you are 50% dutch. Can you read it? Please try on youtube the number: tot de maan en terug by Simone kleinsma en Paul de Leeuw. Its a beautiful love song. ( to the moon and back) I can not find the music. But i am trying some cords. I do have the lyrics. Love from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 Anneke
Movie songs and themes i remember are "Theme from Romeo and Juliet," "Gabriel's Oboe" (from The Mission) and theme from "Lonesome Dove." Also, "A Summer Place." All are beautiful and easy to learn/play.
Yeah, I was literally shouting WHERE IS LA LA LAND!? before reaching the end of the video, hahaha. Great top 10. Some real strong scenes there. And we got to give it to Tom for playing Liszt with only eight fingers.
I love your content. Wanted to get that out there right off. I played some keyboard in a garage rock band years ago and just regained interest a few months ago. Solo jazz piano is in my future. Long way to go. Ok, back to your list. I was watching your video, somewhat distracted, and said out loud “They will have to mention ‘The Fabulous Baker Boys’. “. I kept listening, and found myself agreeing with your list - mostly, then by the end I was stunned. In addition to my number one, which was a great movie, I’d add “The Legend of 1900” to the list. All in good fun. Thanks for doing what you do!
The John Ambrose piano scene in To All The Boys: PS I Still Love You is one of my favorites of all time! It's sooo romantic, and I love the fact that Jordan Fisher improvised it all!
There’s actually quite a few I know that have piano in it like the last song there’s an episode of touched by an Angel with a girl who plays piano not to mention Soul and your lie in April is all about piano
Oh my gosh... i love this video!! And i can still remember that scene in Big 🤓 And I havent watched LaLa Land, but that little trivia about Ryan Gosling having no formal training in piano before the movie, gave me an olive branch 💕
#10 is my #1! Ryan learned to play piano like that, for a movie role! My mom who has been playing piano for 60 years spent months trying to play La La Land soundtrack pieces. For a piano player it is breathtaking!
The info in this was a little bit misleading. The music in the film was actually a professional pianist not the actor. But Ryan could play most of what you saw in the film. So yes he's way above average in music ability but you are not hearing Ryan playing.
Which ones did we miss??

The Piano. Excellent original music by Michael Nyman. Holly Hunter won an Oscar for her leading role and played all the pieces.
Interview with the Vampire (1994) is missing. Lestat playing the piano was such an iconic movie scene. And Amadeus (1984) straight up made me get a piano. I love your list though 💕

No top 10 here but 1 is really epic for me... It's the scene in the holliday where Jack Black is creating music for a film... It is really funny!
The Pianist is great movie
so good!
Bogart to Bergman (remembering that past relationship): We'll always have Paris.

You missed Oscar Levant playing Gershwin’s Concerto In F / An American In Paris (1951)
The Fabulous Baker Boys, 1989, Jeff and Beau Bridges, Michelle Pfeiffer. Great piano movie.

Dudley Moore in the movie 10 ❤️
One of the most powerful piano scenes is in The Deer Hunter, the Chopin nocturne being played in the bar right before they all have to go off to war.

Jamie Foxx did an excellent job and the movie Ray! He actually study classical piano at Juilliard before he went on to become a comedian and actor.
Check out "Green Book" a good film.
Adrien Brody won the Oscar for best actor
You guys should have included the last scene of La La Land instead of this one.
A piano movie you must see is, "Shine," where Geoffrey Rush plays David Helfgott. It is hard to find, these days.
He’s polish and he’s hiding and then he’s found and then he plays piano. I mean sure, that’s all technically correct but... The fact that he’s a Jew and the person who finds him is a German officer are kind of relevant.
