    Hi Elia Media and especially Darren Turner and his excellent explaining and showing of the decisive aspects in good skiing: it is a pleasure to follow the videos and to see all couple of seconds extremely useful information. This is the best in ski instruction I have ever seen! Great compliments and greetings from Bavaria and a happy New Year.

      Happy New Year Thomas. When we created this series I wanted to make sure it was clear, concise with no jargon, just straight to the point facts so that you guys have all the information you need to learn how to ski better. It's great to hear from you so thank you for taking the time to message. Are you heading over to the Arlberg for a powder hit? Cheers Noddy.

      HI Noddy thank for your nice reply and additional info. It would surely be great to ski in Arlberg region. My actual focus, also for distance reasons is more in the area of Tirol in Austria and some ressorts in Bavaria. Have a relaxing weekend. Cheers Thomas

    Really good stuff. But as an aside-there are two ways to increase edge angles; one which he demonstrates-EXTENDING the outside (downhill) ski. But the same thing can be accomplished (with more finesse) by RELAXING (flexing) the uphill/inside) ski.

    • @skng

      Great tip! It's something we talk about in other videos and is often easier for people to try/feel on the hill. When if finally 'clicks' it becomes a combination of these two movements to make it nice and smoooooth.

    Excellent instruction and demonstration yet again! I bought the beginners app to help my wife and the advanced as a refresher for myself - both came in really useful! What model are the Volkls you're using in this video? I'm thinking of getting some high performance carving skis and I've been looking at Head and Rossis. Cheers!

    Great lessons. And I'm generally a grumpy unsatisfied person, so coming from that means alot. Btw, are u skiing a race carver, a sports carver or a hybrid? I've always wondered how much the skis are actually involved in short and long turns. There's GS, SL, allmountain etc. But still, sometimes I watch skilled skiers carve any type of ski like mad! So, it doesn't seem to be that decisive. Yet, for me I guess it is.

    When I pressure the downhill ski - I lose the edge - should I be pressuring down onto the edge please rather than away - thanks very much

    • @skng
      @skng  2 года назад

      Yes, down onto the edge. You may also need to look at your body position. If you are leaning or tipping your upper body too much into the turn your centre of gravity will move away from the edge; the skis will loose pressure and wash out. Check out our film on body position in short and long turns for more. Might help? ruclips.net/video/W2x3BFhNUGg/видео.html

    Hallo my name is Nick , I have question that I'v been asking lot of skiers and noone gives me clear answer on it ,I know the key point is to keep your body waight forward and lean forward when u are turning but I want to know if skier must push the front side of the boot when he is turning or it must happen naturally , I mean I keep the pressure on knee keep my body forward I'm carving but I dunno if it is right or wrong to pressure the front side of my boots , and also I want to know where your body waight must be when u are skiing in powder "deep powder" , I'll be very thankful if u will take some time to anwer my question

      Try bending the knees more therefore applying more pressure on the front tongue of boot This will put more pressure on the front of the skis and also increase the edge angle.It should result in more exact carving and less vibration. Then, just hang loose and go for it.

    What does "push" refer to?

  • @TKRM2007
    @TKRM2007 5 лет назад

    You should comment on the inside ski. You do it well but, it is absolutely a vital part of the turn. I ask my students to give me “just one inch more of the inside skis” and then they will see and feel the difference.

    • @JB91710
      @JB91710 4 года назад

      The inside ski has nothing to do with a turn. It's your job to get it out of the way and BALANCE on the arch of the ski that is responsible for making and controlling the turn. The Uphill ski! You get off the downhill ski and stay off it as you balance on the uphill ski and it makes the turn. Once they have accomplished that, they can do whatever they want. You, as an instructor, do not teach them whatever they want.

    Yet another great video but wouldn't it be more appropriate to use the word "press" as opposed to "push"? After all, if your remove the "ure" from pressure it spells "press".

    As a point of detail our instructor is increasing the pressure he is feeling because he is tipping the ski more. So unless you got heavier recently the message is tip the ski learn how to ride a well tipped ski calmly.

    0:40 "The more I push" I sure hope he will tell us HOW! Nope!
    0:50 "Edge angle" How do you create more edge angle? Pressure? What creates more pressure?
    1:02 Absolutely NO TEACHING HERE! This is what he should have told you. When you want to start the next turn, you rotate your upper body so it is facing down the hill and get off your downhill foot. Because that downhill foot is no longer holding you up, you begin to fall down the hill. That lays your legs over so that uphill ski rolls over onto the inside edge and it turns. "Release my edges and Flow" doesn't cut it!
    1:16 Pressure and push. Do you know how to ski now or do you need more information?
    1:22 Play this at .25 speed. If you want your skis to turn faster and tighter, you have to stop the lateral movement of your upper body across the hill by putting it back in the fall line while your skis will continue across the hill. As you get off the downhill foot, your leg angle will change much faster making the skis roll over faster. Because your upper body is falling down the hill, your weight will be over the tips of the skis which are your front steering tires while the unweighted tails will slide around.
    1:38 He didn't teach you any of what he is saying here.
