    I was lucky to be cast in the O11 remake. I played the Security Guard who let the Greaseman (in the money cart) into the vault area. Opposite Scott Caan and Casey Affleck.

    I was blessed to have a 60 year busy career as a studio singer. At one time or another I worked with all the members of the Rat Pack. Dean Martin with always be my favorite. I worked on his T.V. show for six years. He was the BEST. He had the greatest respect for his cast and crew members, and not an ounce of star ego. I miss you, Boss ❤️

    I really love that line: "the audience is part accomplice, part patsy." Very well said. I was pleased to find a juxtaposed review of both films having recently seen the Rat Pack version for the first time; I'm more pleased still that it's well done. Cheers.

    I watched the original a few months ago and the thing that worked so well was the chemistry between all the characters. You got to see how well they worked together and it was like watching a band on a day off hanging out with each other which I think is the point of the whole movie really.

      those are interesting films to compare, though maybe a little close to the Ocean's examples - '60s original caper, early '00s star-heavy remake - for now. but thanks for the suggestion!

    It's a completely different film. The original had the Rat Pack including Sammy Davis Jr.
    Oh yes.
    They filmed in the day and performed and partied all night in Las Vegas. It was just great fun. As a huge Sammy fan needless to say I like the original. The remake takes itself much more seriously.
    In the original their parts were written to take up as little golf time as possible. Not to mention that Ava Gardner and Shirley McLean played uncredited cameos. Didn't want their names on it. But for all its flaws I just love the original. Because of Sammy. and the rest of the Pack.

    As a guy who lives in the 1950ies and really like Dean, Frank and Sammy, its perhaps not surprising I like the original more. Ive only seen the newer movies once. I watch the original a couple of times a year. At least. You know you are getting a Summit/Ratpack home video when you turn the original on. The new ones are just heist movies with an ensamble cast, thats not even that greatly written. A petty cash grab from Hollywood, that lacks the charm and style of the original.

    • @mintybadgerproductions
      @mintybadgerproductions Год назад +1

      Cash grab? The sequels maybe, but the first 2001 remake is definitely not. I'd argue the original is more of a cash grab than the remake, it's a pretty lazy heist movie that coasts on the star power of the rat pack. The remake is better shot, has a more nuanced and varied heist and better performances. The actual members of the 11 beyond the leads are also far more memorable and distinct than the lookalike middle aged journeymen of the original.

    • @Farbautisonn
      @Farbautisonn Год назад

      @@mintybadgerproductions So... the original was a cashgrab?
      Lulz.
      You are talking about Martin and Sinatra who were at the height of their careers. They were top-billing in Vegas and could have had any studio throw money at them for just doing a documentary on how to cook an egg.
      The original isn't to be taken seriously. Its a fun movie,, both for the cast and crew. It doesnt pretend to be anything its not. Its just goofy entertainment.
      What came after lacks the charm and wit. It lacks the "devil may care" attitude. It lacks the style of decadence that everyone thought was Vegas.
      Sure it has an ensemble cast, but are any of them really even close to how popular Martin and Sinatra was at their time?

    • @mintybadgerproductions
      @mintybadgerproductions Год назад +2

      @@Farbautisonn Yes it was a cash grab, it's a lazy heist movie designed to cash in on the Rat Pack's popularity filmed on their time off from performing. If you know anything about the production you'll know that's true. Sinatra made excessive demands on scheduling and other aspects that the Director and Writer had to keep adapting to.
      Saying it's not meant to be taken seriously isn't an excuse for a poor movie, the remake isn't meant to be taken seriously either, but it's far superior.
      Beside the rat pack, the original 11 are a group of interchangeable generic middle aged guys with no defining traits or characterisation (that also applies somewhat to the rat pack too) They're all meant to be cool, but they come across like incompetent drunks who mess up a relatively straight forward heist that lacks the variety and challenges of the remake. The 11 in the remake actually have distinct personalities and character traits which come into play during the heist. They all actually contribute something to the story.
      You talk about decadence, most of the original involves them standing around in various Vegas hotel rooms talking to each other and phoning each other up. It's flatly directed, the cinematography is dull.
      The popularity of the actors has nothing to do with the quality of the film, but even by that token in 1960, Dean Martin and Sinatra were old blokes who made music for your mum and dad. They didn't trouble the singles charts and they were only a few years away from being swept aside by the Beatles and the new Rock scene. Brad Pitt in 2001 was arguably the biggest movie star on the planet and actually had a young following too.
      I can't help but feel you're blinded by your nostalgia and fandom for the Rat Pack to see that the remake is clearly the better movie. It has better characters, better direction and better set pieces.

  • @1cardplayer

    The original is much better than the 2001 version. You have to appreciate being able to see Vegas in it’s early years before being over commercialized. You have to also appreciate that the premier showing was unexpected and not many even knew it was being produced. Also, back then, the rat pack was notoriously known to go out and give a dealer a break and deal cards or tend a table game while mingling with the general public which is something that never happens today.

      @@1cardplayer The only thing you mentioned of any actual relevance to the substance of the movie is being able to see Vegas in 1960. Even then, I'm not too sure what you mean about Vegas becoming commercialised, it was Sin City since the 1930's unless you're referring to the end of the Mob which is surely a good thing? Regardless the surprise movie premier and the fact that the Rat Pack mingled with the card dealers has nothing to do with what's actually on screen.

      @Minty Badger Productions God damn kid, your gonna keep milking my nuts on this huh? Here's the facts just so you have them. The version that I have of this movie contains within the disc a narrated version of the movie by Angie Dickenson and Sinatra's son, both speaking of the above comment that I posted, regarding how my said comment is indeed factual information. It's a fuckin joy to watch with their narration while also taking in the scenes and being able to see the different scenes of Vegas, in a timefeame where Vegas was not as overly commercialized in 1960 as it is today.
