I started in a Motel in Enid, OK until I turned 19. My first big boy job on Monday with Halliburton Services as a shop mechanic ! My first Shop Forman was Dallas Morris!
I did my maditory ninety in the shop, then years as a Field Tech... After I moved from Enid, it was too Duncan, and the engine shop. The Cummins 12V and 16V rebuild shop!!!

You’ve got to earn it and when you do it’s worth it.

Man, the best thing you can do is start before tech school. Start while your in school school. In your parents backyard, I'm no pro, but I know what eye know, and I try to learn more everyday, as I use diesels everyday, but I'm just a deckhand, become a fishing boat captain, and this is the stuff I kneed to know as my life depends on the reliability of my diesel motor

Up here in Canada anyway. What I've noticed is school is good to learn the basics if you haven't got it in the outside world.
The things you learn in school are so outdated when you get out working in the real world that you still have to lots learn and the learning never ends.

True, after three years and a half of tech school and working on random shops half of the time I rebuilt the engine on my dads truck, three months later got a lot of smoke for oil burning there was 16 O rings l didn’t know what they were for. One of my teachers said they go on the valve stems along with the seals. We will not know everything and we never stop learning something new no matter if we are master king technicians. 😮

I think if you go through a manufacturer’s program you’ll have a edge on someone going to school who didn’t but either person starts at the bottom one just might be more prepared and perhaps confident starting out than the other .

One of the most unappreciated industries known where you spend upwards of 100k as a mechanic probably more on tools and education, destroys your body, and are discarded even after 30 years of allegiance to a company for family members who lost their jobs in other industries..😂
