My excitement for Stormgate went from cautiously optimistic to psyched, after chatting with some of the Frost Giant team who attended Dreamhack Atlanta. Monk told us directly that he's unhappy with the readability of the game and that they plan to iterate on readability as soon as they can. Then he spent about 30 minutes asking us for feedback on the game. The overall vibe I got from meeting Monk and other team members was that they're all in on taking criticism and using it to make the game better. So to all the people complaining about readability: they hear you!
You should of tell them not to make the same mistake relic did with Dawn of war 3. A MOBA variation in a rts Is not gonna fit well with All the Players that just straight up wants a RTS game. For me this is way to cartoonish, there is to much similarities with games I've already played in the past which is why I personally believe that this will fail as a RTS spin-off of a mashup between warcraft and starcraft. God I miss Chaos (Blizzard North)
@@Involvesrts is already a dying breed. Sc2 being the best of the last and it’s 14 years old. Stormgate doesn’t bring anything new. I don6 believe it will succeed either
I agree with you on visual stuff. I also fully understand that its still in development and could have many changes. But it really is very hard to follow what is going on.
I agree with you guys. The readability is not yet good enough. It is specifically seen when basset gives frames gameplay from StarCraft next to Stormgate. This should be changed. Unfortunately it just becomes boring to watch because of this problem.
I'm sure it's in development to have production views, total troops, income tabs, army and worker totals etc. They really need that to help everyone see what's going on. But they'll get there. I am excited to see the changes they implement ahead.
It's still far from release build. The lighting will make a huge difference and that's one of the last visual things they do. The game isn't even finished bro. SC looked like fucking garbage compared to stormgate in the pre release build. Shit- SC looked dated as fuck until years later. Your opinion is shit
This game looks like a cheap mobile game from China. Horrid. With a budget of tens of millions of dollars and made by hotshot ex-Blizzard devs. How embarrassing. Zerospace will bury this piece of trash without even trying.
lol zero space has some generic looking units and aliens. also I don't think the gameplay will be anywhere near as smooth as stormgate. That being said I'm sure zero space will still be fun why do you need to hate on stormgate just because you like zero space?
I just can't follow what's going on in the fights. The unit dynamics and role don't lend themslves to understanding composition well like in SC2.. Marine tank or gateway unit s + collosus etc is ovious but this is just a mash of units a moving at each other and no clearly differentiated roles. I want to be enthusiastic but I'm not sure!
Well, to be successful, stormgate needs a strong single player campaign, and other fun stuff, because average player not a Korean pro, or even a player in ranked games. And majority of players in w3 or sc2, just played a campaign and custom games, sometimes watching pro events. If this player base does not you main priority, you gonna find little success, in my opinion.
i like the idea of "forced expansion" to make games more dynamic but lets face it - nothing will beat DoW in that matter (and CoH aswell) where how much resource you get, was based on how much agressive you were and open to fight on whole map
I feel they should have taken more risks and bring something new and exciting. Although it looks pretty good I dont feel excited to play it (just my personal opinion, I'm sure it's not the same for everyone)
I have a huge problem with this game for now, and it comes down to lack of identity to call its own. It doesn't grab my attention, it doesn't fascinate me, it doesn't make my imagination go wild. The universe they're creating here feels very uninspired, a hodgepodge of Starcraft and Warcraft, a weird one at that, with no units that I could describe as "cool" or "recognizable to the point they could become iconic". Think of all interesting game worlds in the RTS genre. Command & Conquer with its Tiberium-infested universe, Red Alert, Warcraft, Starcraft, Age of series, Total Annihilation, Homeworld... They were all kind of distinct in their world building aspirations, attempted to do something different. Distinct. I don't know, it's like Frost Giant were too afraid to get out of their Blizzard comfort zone to the point Stormgate feels like an imitation. For now, at least. I wish them all the best, hope the game manages to do some things right, but it doesn't strike me as "the next big thing" unless the campaign manages to pull off something amazing in terms of story or crafting this universe into something fascinating in general.
yeah, I was hyped before, but i came to realization that it looks so much inferior and less action and depth packed then sc2, at least at this point in time I dont have high hopes. Curious to see how it will shape up in future anyway
I expect it will look quite different by release. The devs have said that haven't done a "readability pass" in a long time, since they've been working on other stuff at a breakneck pace. I'm pretty excited to see it in the current state, to better appreciate the improvements when they come.
Storm game suck, zero origininality. Literally Everything Are copied and paste from SC1 SC2, Warcraft III, then repackage the graphic to look like mobile legend or dota 2. Even then the final design is still trash af imo. 90% of the units design are all stolen from the SC2 arcade games, whic has already existed for a very long time. They think since they got some budget and cash, they can just hire some streamers, RUclipsrs/"Pro" players and even host tournaments so that it will hype it up and get people to like it. Very Dlusional.
I think that starting with a campaign could had male a more solid base for unit design and people understand the fight. But I also understand how it is a tight budget.
with direct comparisons being made to sc2 and wc3, it is already lost. People will get it, go hey its not sc2 or wc3, and stop playing. it needs to be new
Imagine if people said that for SC2 or WC3. It's a "Blizzard" RTS what else do you expect? Why would you not want it to be similar to the others? Remember when Dawn of War 2 threw out most of the mechanics of the first game? Was a great game but wasn't same game. If you don't want a Blizzard RTS then play something else.
@@assault410 Starcraft copied Warcraft... even though Starcraft was a new game and IP. Did Spielberg reinvent himself for each movie? Or did the Beatles suddenly start rapping instead of making Rock? It's their style of game.
Just bluntly this game looks like crap compared to SCII or even WC3. It doesn't have that hero pvp uniqueness of WC3, and this looks worse than SCII in almost every way possible. This game just looks like garbage.
The game plays like Starcraft and looks like how I wish Reforged would look. I just hope the game is successful in reviving and building upon TFT's amazing custom map scene, I don't see myself playing the competitive RTS portion of the game.
I get the game looks rough but the gameplay looks solid and the art will be polished later on. Watch Grubby talk about it's mechanics if you don't believe me. Also roll back delayed net code, 64 player count, and 1000s of units are a God send.
Great video and analysis! Honestly, I started feeling a little better about the game after hearing your analysis. I agree that the game introduces some great new mechanics, in particular, I find splitting mechanics of the demons very refreshing and interesting. Its like a much simplified but at the same time much better adapted mechanics from perimeter, where basic units could transform to other higher tier units.
