Portuguese went to their country to take gold. They weren’t ‘slaves’ they were Africans who were enslaved. And much of what was done Africa was indentured service where you could ‘earn’ freedom back. White people all over the world did in humane things treated them like property and animals, today whites worldwide benefit from accumulation of wealth, land, and privilege.

Very interesting initiative but... a few imprecisions in your clip:The first still is from Porto, not from Lisbon. Rossio Square is Praça D. Pedro IV, not Largo de S. Domingos (a small square adjacent to Rossio). The church is the church of S. Domingos and not the church do Largo de S. Domingos. Then you show the interior of the Jeronimos Monastery's Church. I really don't think that the Cape Verdean community hangs around Rossio. For more information go Cabo Verde cultural center in Rua de S. Bento.
Some imprecisions about the theme: Slave trade from Africa into Europe started long ago before the Portuguese, even Atlantic, since there were Moroccan trade through atlantic routes into Europe (remember that the Iberian Peninsula was under Moorish rule from the 700s until late 1200s (Portugal) and 1400s(Spain).
As for the Atlantic slave trade, the one that everyone knows about, it was made between Africa and the Americas. Europe didn't had a direct slavery based economy as it was in the Americas. Of course that there was slave trade into Europe, but not in the industrialized terrific way the trans-Atlantic was. The most exacerbated slave trade had to do with sugar (remember this when eating your favorite sugar based food). Europe benefited from slavery economically because of colonial power, not from the slaves as a work force in Europe. From late 1700s and early 1800s the American countries became independent and they were the ones benefiting from the trade and exploitation. Portugal abolished slavery in 1760s only in its European territories but the existing slaves at the time were not freed. Imports were prohibited and newborns were free. In the colonies, slavery continued until mid 1800s.
The Dutch painting shown in the beginning of the clip is a testimony of the rich, diverse city that Lisbon was in the mid 1500s. The tour probably shows how different was slavery in a rich European city from the terrible forced labour of on the sugar plantations in the colonies. But... slavery was slavery, no doubt, anywhere. Maybe that is why Fado is called the Portuguese Blues and Samba, if played very slowly, sounds like Fado.

Well it is true in certain regions that is for sure mostly in the south. Southern Portugal has significant frequencies of Sub-Saharan Maternal DNA consistent with Portuguese men and enslaved African women during the trans Atlantic slave trade some of that DNA of course is probably from Moorish period. Alcacer do sal in the south has the highest sub-Saharan Maternal DNA in Europe with 22% of the populations maternal origins being that of Sub-Saharan Africa. It was a lot more common then people think. The Azores and Madeira are a different story but they also of course inter married with African slaves.

@tagbarzeev8283 Yep, lets toss plainly recorded history stating that the Jews of Portugal were black people...🤣🤣🤣 But things get deeper, and we can go all the way back to the 1ST CENTURY, Tacitus recorded the fact that the Romans THOUGHT the Jews in the 1st century were a race of Ethiopian origin. Israelites and Ethiopians are separate people from 2 different lineages, so it makes you wonder 🤔. But using deductive reasoning and proof in the Bible (Zephaniah 3:10 and, cases of the Israelites being constantly mistaken for ANCIENT Egyptians), the Talmud (Sanhedrin 94a documented the 10 tribes being exiled to Africa), historical documents and depictions (Lachish reliefs). I think it would be safe to say the Ancient Israelites were a NEGRO PEOPLE. So, bringing up DNA that doesn't use Ancient Israelite DNA as a baseline is BS, and shouldn't be brought into conversations in establishing Israelite Identity.
Did you also know that the Jews that were allowed to stay in Portugal mixed themselves out of existence after being forced to convert to Catholicism? 🤣🤣🤣 The amount of evidence I discovered on this subject is damning...
