    The team should tie up Vientos and Alvarez long term like the Braves do with their young players. It will be cheaper now than later.

      It's a numbers game. The more prospects you give a shot, the more likely one or two will succeed. The alternative of signing FA position player stars like Soto and Alonso ($80 mil. a season between them) is that you are condemning our pitching staff to suck for the next ten years. The Mets fans who insist Cohen will have a $500 annual payroll are dreaming; he wants to get it down around $300, which is why he brought in Stearns.

  • @eloisegumbs1969

    Mauricio being healthy would have destroyed Vientos career because he would not have gotten his opportunity because for some strange reason the Mets front office and fans did not believe in him.

      @@rickjason215 Better than Vientos?Mauricio hit .243. Vientos has 12 homers and is hitting in the .290s. The only thing Mauricio has done is steal bases. Maybe he has more range. Vientos has done a good job at 3rd.

      @MrAschiff You are saying that like Vientos's slash wasn't
      167/.268/.278
      And .211/.253/.367 the two prior years.
      It's not a question that Mauricio had looked way more impressive at the time. That was the point being made.

    • @MrAschiff
      @MrAschiff 3 месяца назад

      @@Jeremy-The-Bullfrog Vientos was hardly given the chance to play those years. If you followed Vientos's career in the minors like I did, you would know that every time he moved up a level, it would take him a month to adjust and then he'd start to rake. I wasn't necessarily talking about the performance; Vientos has much more power and his on-base % has always been better than Mauricio's throughout the minors.

    Great show today, thanks for updating the status of the prospects. Yeah, lost season for Williams and Gilbert. But still, I haven't been so excited about a group of young position players in 40 years. (Normally the Mets had pitching and no hitting.) I'm hoping opening day 2026 is: C-Alvarez; 1B-Ryan Clifford; 2B-Acuna; SS-Lindor; 3B-Vientos; LF-Nimmo; CF-Jett Williams; RF-Mauricio with Gilbert as the 4th outfielder. Or Mauricio can play 3B and Vientos can DH. Plenty of hitting there and 7 of the 9 are on low-budget contracts, leaving us free to spend big dollars on FA pitchers, both starters and relievers. Soto and Alonso are not only unnecessary, but they would force us to have an entire pitching staff for the foreseeable future picked out of the dumpster; the typical scores would be like a football game, 17-14 -- exciting but long.

    Side note. I’m enjoying the Mets offensive surge. Even though our bullpen is atrocious. So many years being a Mets fan where offense wasn’t a strength. We’ve always been a pretty good pitching, bullpen and solid to sub par offense. Low run showing wins if at all. But this team they have a camaraderie, a belief at the plate that has resurrected their season. I believe the Mets address bullpen depth this offseason. They have money to spend and will spend it wisely.

    Injuries usually come from two sources, 1) desperation, 2) no ppip.. PPIP stands for planning preparation improves performance.
    It's crazy how the players come in to spring training and blow out their muscles, tendons.. Its because their offseasons was spent sitting on their
    glutes. There are a variety of low key workours outside that strengthen the muscles around the hard worked tendons. Its these muscles that reduce tendonitis, tears etc. 1st things 1st get up off your glutes, exercise glutes, repetitive low weights low Reps, done in 2 to 3 sets over 2 hour periods allows blood flow to bring the protein building blocks to the targeted areas. Hyper weights desperados work outside create inflammation and breakdowns. The mental plan should be a calm singular focus in harmony with your bodies reflexes.

    Williams will be a high average guy that may hit 10 homers in a season. Gilbert ceiling is a Lenny Dykstra type player. I don't see anything extraordinary coming from him. Mauricio is the one with immense raw talent in all sides of the ball. These "rankings" as usually wrong and useless.

    • @GeraldM_inNC

      Gilbert's offensive upside is Dykstra, agreed, but defensively he is much better than Dykstra. Acuna and Williams will run wild on the basepaths, terrorizing the other teams' catchers.
