Fan from Utah here. I LOVE the colors. I don’t prefer Yeti. I think Mammoths is the best option as we have tons of bones of mammoths and you can do cool stuff with it. Here why it could be yeti: the two biggest BRANDS in the state are colleges - University of Utah, colloquially know just as “UTAH” and Brigham Young University, colloquially known as the “Y”. So imagine you are doing hats or shirts, you are going to want your brand to have a U and a Y somewhere there.
Hate the colors. Dull.

I was thinking it looked like that shade. But the Penguins chose to be Bruins black and gold now, and they don't own the color. Kraken are about the only other team using a similar shade, and it isn't their primary. Would be nice to have more green in the league though.
The blue could work for Mammoth or Yeti. To be decided.
Yeti would a very awesome name and potential brand to work around.
Yeti would be kinda copying the Avs. I think Venom has way more potential though. They could use anything with venom and the colors could be pretty much anything.

It was announced a while ago that they would debut the new name and branding for the 2025-26 season.
I wonder if the reason they didn't get a team name in time is because they wanted to go with Yeti, but they weren't able to work out a deal with the Avalanche. They Avs used a Yeti foot logo as their shoulder patch for a long time, and while they haven't used it for awhile, during Landeskog's recent press conference, he was wearing a hat that had the foot logo. This tells me that the Avs still want to use that in some way, which would prevent Utah from using that as their name

It's like an No Frills brand hockey logo. Like those old school generic cans of soda that are all white and just said SODA.
I think that this might be a really smart decision.
There probably was enough time to get the basics like brand name and logo done, but the key for a strong brand identity is consistency across every little detail and for this, there almost certainly was not enough time.
And every aspect that doesn't match the brand identity from the start can hurt it in the long run and can potentially take a long time to correct in the future. Imagine you want your franchises image to be strong, fierce and powerful, but because you've rushed things you end up with certain elements around your franchise that are quite the opposite of that.
Or you didn't do enough market research to see what your potential fans might actually want to see from your franchise, instead you followed your gut feeling and completely misjudged everything and instead of a strong identity you end up being perceived as goofy or cheesy.

I detested that name too. But somehow, many blindly liked it.

From a European 🇫🇮🇪🇺 perspective, Utah HC has a ring to it, to be totally honest. I'd prefer that as their permanent name. As a Habs fan, I'm okay with whatever they'll choose though. 😊
There are four other logos that got leaked along with that one, on all of them the H in Utah looks wonky.

Yetis is a perfect name and logo which they could do so much with them. Even people who won't be fans of the team will still want a jersey with bigfoot on it.

Sadly this means the first proper branded Fanatics ones will be the new crap ones introduced in 25-26 when the quality will go down the pan. But as you say, will no doubt pick one of these up as at least I know it will be the Indo Adidas with an F logo which I can live with. But Hockey Utah Club is lame. Just use a big blue U for now.

...But its not a club, its a franchise, a club has members, and usually teams at various levels down to youth, none of these pro teams in north america are clubs. May as well called it Real Utah or some other cringe af name that doesn't make any sense.
That horrible name and logo makes me want to cheer for the opposing team every game. I get that it's temporary. But it sucks so bad I don't even want to see it that long.
