Good luck finding those car with decent miles for 5k lol, those cars now are going like 8- 10k

Bought my GTI with 190k miles. Currently at 210k. Everything that’s gone wrong, which isn’t too much, is stuff I’m surprised has held up to 200k miles.

That was my first car @ 18… VW golf gti vr6 mk3!! Loved that car! 17 years and 9 cars later I now have an 02 wrx.
Buick LaCrosse! Easily found for $2k or LESS in phenomenal shape and low mileage, 05-07 ECU can easily be tuned, MASSIVE AFTERMARKET SUPPORT FOR THE PLATFORM and the same V6 as in the CAMAROS AND FIREBIRDS and not to mention BUICK LUXURY OF A CAR WHOS MSRP WAS $25k back in 2005! Only reason for depreciation is no-one knows about them
I'd go for an NC instead of the NA Miata. Adequate power (116hp in the original NA is underpowered, IMO), it's safer, and it's actually possible to use as a daily car because of the power hardtop.

The PRHT NCs are like 10k while you can get a good NB for 3k
This video is about cars for $5k. A 5k NC will be a salvage title with 3 wheels missing or 250k miles.
E39 is good option too, where i live usually better deals found than e46, better engine, better equipment for same money as e46

The 07-08 TL had the trans swapped from the RL and lasted much longer than the 04-06 auto trans. Only way u could get a manual 07-08 tho is thru the type s, which goes for over 10k for a clean one
Any love for the F56 MINI Cooper S? It shares the BMW B48 engine that with a few mods can achieve over 200+ hp. And with a good tune like Derv tech you can shoot flames in sport mode.
I have a 1.8T with over 220K miles on it! That engine is dead reliable... If you maintain it. Mine also puts out 300whp and 25+ psi of boost on E85 and methanol injection. And was beat up pretty bad...
Subaru Legacy B4 RSK or GTB $3000-5000 and you have a 280hp comfy car with a twin turbo, mine is making 340hp and is so fun to drive in the mountain.

If you want to get something like a BMW 3 series, consider Lexus IS200/IS300 or Toyota Altezza. BMW driving experience + Toyota bulletproof reliability
Even If you get one with 1g fe, it's still pretty brisk from the factory, but you can always get a turbo kit and run 300hp on stock internals

the tl 6spds are sweet but the manuals have issues as well. first gear is prone to failing if you're above 150,000 miles.
