Hi Cici, Thank you for sharing! I would love to be able to have a bookkeeping business. I am currently enrolled in a bachelors program for accounting. I have a full-time job and 2 kids as well. Life is pretty busy right now with school, work, and kids. I would like to be able to have the luxury of picking my own hours and being more present at home. I'm very interested in becoming a bookkeeper but not sure if I have the confidence in doing so. I watched your start-up video and it was very helpful. As someone else had said, this is very motivating. So thank you!

I plan to offer bookkeeping about a year after starting the business. My bookkeeping niche is optometry, Ophthalmologly and/or mental health. I have years of light bookkeeping but I'm not confident. I've completed a bookkeeping course in January 2019 but was unsuccessful in finding work so I abandoned it. My plans are to learn QBO to study and pass certification. Afterwards, introduce bookkeeping into the business.

I'm tryna get started on my own bookkeeping business as well. just looking and listening at all kind angles and currently taking a few classes on udemy and will do my Quickbooks online certification, gonna register it and all that i think the hardest part is finding clients. Especially with no experience kinda. I currently do books for a painting company in more ways then none. Its pretty the same concept you professionals write all up i even created company forms as you guys call balance sheets accounts payable and so fort. So i figure i got the basic concept and i very good with numbers so figure why not give this bookkeeping stuff a try. I'm pretty close to opening up shop. Have a company name logo and business plan ready. Leaning towards virtual and independent locally i Hawaii. Question would start local businesses in Hawaii qualify as a niche? or i need to be more specific. My chain of thought on that is i'm just starting out as well and figured perfect way to come up garner recognition and experience all along with these new start ups tryna get their legs under them as well. In the bast 3 years I have experimented with MLMs and I was thinking of using this as my niche, because so many people get involved in MLM’s and are successful but don’t have the time or patience for bookkeeping. What do you think? Does this full under the marketing category?

Only you can answer that question. :-) I suggest that you collect data whether they're fictitious or real (customer info, vendor info, invoices and payments, bills, play with whatever financial information you can find at home/business like electric and water bills, etc.) Excel has free versions and Quickbooks also offers 30-day free trial, so there's no reason not to try typing those data into these software/tools and manipulate them to your liking. You calculate Retention on each Pay or Draw Request with main contractor.
