  • Nope! Not a vacuum killer at all under reasonable circumstances. But I wouldn't recommend using this product EVERY time you vacuum either.

      The consistency is different. Plain baking soda will kill your vacuum.

      Well if you try very hard, anything can kill your vacuum; however, I use baking soda regularly for testing, and it's never hurt any of my more than 80 vacuums. So no, baking soda used properly, won't hurt either.

    I have used this before and while it does smell nice, I do not use it anymore. It liked to clog my Kirby bags. It probably wouldn’t hurt if you used it every once in a blue moon, but not every single time you vacuum, which for me is every other day.

  • @Blackheartvacs
    @Blackheartvacs Год назад +5

    I think the sample size was a little small to truly see the effect this stuff has. It''s certainly not going to kill the vacuum from a use or two like some may say but as you've said it will build up in the carpeting over time and such fine particles also clog filters/bags quite easily. and then when the filters/bags clog it'll make it's way through or around them make it's way into the motor, into the bearings. and eventually lead to the demise of those.
    I had a friend who didn't have a normal vacuum, he only had a little bissell handheld who regularly used carpet freshner. My poor miracle mate clogged up pretty quickly despite how little floor space there was. I didn't think to bring spare bags as he hadn't mentioned the powder. Ended up having to wash the clog bag after that one as quite a bit got through the bag.
    I will also say that as a former, part time, vacuum tech. Machines which smelled of carpet fresh were usually pretty rough, and i will not suggest these products to anyone.

    • @VacLab
      @VacLab  Год назад +3

      The complaint was that any use of carpet fresh or the like immediately corrupts the vacuum motor and can be seen to blow right out of the exhaust immediately. Obviously none of that was the case. 🤣
      So if I put down the same density but a greater total (larger carpet total area), eventually, the bin would fill up of course.
      It's been many years since I used an entire container of this stuff, but when I did, I had no issues. Of course, I emptied the bin and cleaned the filters.
      I will add that the average user has no clue how to use a vacuum and that's when I see and grab many curb finds. Many have unintentional clogs, but some (drywall dust) are intentional.

    I'm curious, do the carpet fresh companies not test this stuff on different vacuums and stuff? You would think if so many vacuums are getting ruined or breaking down because of it that the companies would be having lots of problems and would have to change something. I feel like it wouldn't still be on the shelves all these years later if it really caused that many problems?
    I currently have a shark vacuum. I've never tried anything with it before. However I do get my husband to blow it out with an air compressor every month or so and I rinse the sponge filter.
    I haven't used carpet fresh type products in years but recently bought some because the house my husband and I just bought 2 yrs ago is about 20yrs old and I have no idea how old the carpet is and now with 2 cats and 2 dogs in and out and a husband that comes home in dirty work boots every day I felt the need to freshen the carpet up a bit until I get the chance to clean it. I never had issues with this stuff in the past when using my mom's old Kirby from the late 80s lol but am now scared to use it again.
    I was always light handed with her vacuum but heavy handed with it at my ex's house. I don't remember what kind of vacuum he had but it was a bagged vac I remember that. No problems with it surprisingly lol

    Better choice is foaming carpet perfume. This stuff is a vacuum killer no question. It cakes up in all the suction channels, and gets pulverized into the filters. This stuff has been around since the 60's or even older, so vacuums were very bog standard and pig iron back then, it didn't matter. The high tech quintuple filtration bajillion cyclonic vacs of today cannot handle this stuff. I have washed 2 Dysons that have been victim to the perfume powder. The cyclone cones inside were jammed up with it in a crusty mess.

      Or maybe its because a lot of the people actually repair people's vacuums and see the damage done to them, or have learned from firsthand experience. Perfume powder nearly killed my Kirby Ultimate G. That was in 2003. It was only a year old then. Never used it again. Vacuum shop also told me the same thing to never use that stuff. It had jammed up the brushroll bearings, screwed up the fan chamber, was all over the fill tube, everything.

      @seana806 2 года назад

      @@huskyvacs there probably was something else that killed the motor on your Kirby Ultimate G Diamond Edition back in 2003, direct air vacuums aren’t as prone to getting ruined by this carpet powder since the motor is isolated from the dirt that it’s picking up compared to bypass machines.
      Performance Reviews and Vacuum “Facts” are on Vacuumland (more like VileLand[TM]) but rarely ever post since they know they speed false information and don’t want to be called out for it. PR and VF always fall for the so called “high tech” vacuums that look cool but lack the cfm to get the dirt out of carpets and rugs. I have nothing against modern technology, but not many people realize that direct air vacuums are as good as it’s going to get for airflow and agitation. The pinnacle of vacuum cleaner technology is tandem air vacuums since they use both a direct air motor for airflow and use a bypass motor fur suction but the downside to that is it adds significant complexity to the vacuum along with making it fairly pricey since Riccar is the only tandem air upright vacuum I can think of. Yes, there are some bypass vacuums with decent airflow and agitation but it’s few and far between.
      Direct air vacuums have basically been around since the first Hoover ever made which was the Model 0 in 1908 and 1909, but it’s one of those things where it may be old and antiquated technology but it plain works and is very proven. Don’t need something super high tech or fancy to get your floors cleaned, just need something with airflow and agitation :)
