I'm not in good health but this summer a mate built me 3 raised beds, they are very deep so I don't have to bend. I sowed some carrots at the end of August, I was a little late so they are still tiny but the heads are good. I have them covered with fleece so not sure if they will survive the winter and grow on in spring. I have cabbage, sprouts, cauli broccoli and garlic at the moment. Looking forward to watching and learning from you.
Another fab video Jim 👍😃 Your raised beds look amazing and wood should last longer being so thick and heavy. Be careful with the sharp edges on that metal raisdd bed. The suggestion of a hosepipe split to top it off is a good idea . Rats are a blinking nuisance, we have the same problem 😳 Carrotts look great apart from the root fly damage. 🪰 Happy new year , enjoy the celebrations 🎉🥳
Thanks! Happy new year to you! 🎉 I may need to put something over to prevent any cuts! I'm trying to figure out a way around the carrot root fly at the moment! Thanks for watching and happy gardening!
Happy holiday! I would put a couple of layers of duct tape on the sharp edge, so you don't cut yourself. About rats, bird seed is our best bait this year. They love it... Once... 🙈
90% of my Christmas presents were gardening related and one of them was a big roll of fine mesh, so I'm gonna build a tightly netted frame for this year's carrots. They were loosely netted last year and that seemed to keep the carrot root fly at bay. (Didn't keep the rats off them though! 🤬)
Happy Christmas Jim and to your family🎉🎉 thank you for such a encouraging and entertaining videos, let’s hope we all have a better garden year next year.😊 p.s what’s going on with carrot root flies.experts always say they don’t fly any higher than 2ft ! 😮strange.
one thing with snap traps if your going that way make sure you peg them down on a piece of string or tie a weight on the string because if they can they will drag the trap off
Buy a bait station, have a permanent problem with mice in the chook run, they just nibble the bait, the rats eat them, within a couple of weeks rats are gone.
Jim this might be the stupidest thing you have ever heard but it is the only reason i could think of when my carrots on the greenhouse shelf was attacked i was watching a totally unrelated programme about vultures they have to sit around till the sun heats the ground to create thermals then they ride the thermal and glide high up into the sky so when the sun passes through the glass does it create mini thermals for the carrot fly to rise up to the shelf only my thinking possibly totally wrong
Tut Tut Jim. Your last video was false. Temu gave you a freebie and you reckon 69 quid was a good deal. Get honest mate and forget about freebies. Subscribe s are your bread and hutter
For the sharp edges on the raised bed , carefully put a slit in a length of hose pipe and just push it on .
Carrot root fly gets picked up by winds to high heights its a mith that they cant get over 3 ft
Happy Christmas from Down Under. Hope you and yours have a wonderful day. Enjoy those carrots 🥕 😋 🎄
Merry Christmas from Ireland 🇮🇪 😊😅😅😅

Great update Jim , merry Christmas to you and all the family
put spring onions round the edge, it masks the carrot smell from the root fly so they dont find them. it really works.
Thanks for the tip, I'll try that 😊

Needs to be wire that can't be bitten/gnawed through.
Merry christmas jim🌲 thanks for the video

We have some 'poison free' bait but still having issues

That is an interesting theory. They're only small insects so you could be right!
