Hi jim you could bury the pot so the holes are covered by soil, itll help with moisture retention, the roots can grow into the soil and it will stop the slugs getting in the bottom. 👍😀🥔
Hi Jim, I would have been very happy with that harvest of potatoes, every year there is always something that causes issues. In Southern California we grow potatoes during our winter months and it’s either too much rain or not enough, it’s always a juggling act. Happy Gardening 🧑🌾.
Hi Jim, i have grow Cara, Sarpo Mira and (1st time) Pink Fir Apple. I have used Vitex Copper spray against blite and it seems to have worked ,i had very bad blite last year 2023 and nothing or almost no blite this year,i have not started to harvest yet heres hopeing Derek
Hi Jim, I grew the same three main crop this year (bundle from a well-known supplier) and had the same problem with blight on the setanta - I won’t be growing them again on my plot. The other two, adjacent in the same bed, so subject to the same conditions, were fine and lived up to the ‘blight resistant’ label. Yield for the setanta, 25 seed potatoes planted, was only 30.8kg, so below my expectations of 1.5 - 2kg per spud sown. I did remember to water them all though 😂
Great video. Thank you. If you lay a piece of mesh in the bottom of your buckets it will stop the slugs gtting in to your crops. Hope that helps. Happy gardening 🙂
Hi Jim, some good tips for growing potatoes. Thankyou! Mine where just ok this year. How do you store potatoes that you will use as seed potatoes next year? Cheers Pete 👍
I thought my second earlies, were a bit dense, soil wise, so I added some sand to the ones I’ve put in for Christmas, it’ll be interesting to see how they come out. The blue ones look like a fun idea, be interested to hear how they taste. 🥔👍
Hi Jim, when do I start to grow potatoes? I would like to try next year. Also where did you get your buckets from? And do you think buckets are a good idea for potatoes. Thanks sorry to ask so many questions. Happy gardening.😊
You done very well with ur harvest

Never grown blue potatoes but those harvests are better than nothing. Here’s to next seasons issues being small and manageable Jim and mom, Ali 🌧️🇨🇦

Hi Jim. Nice harvest considering you got hit with blight. I certainly found my blight hit pots gave a poor yield too. Take care. Mags

Hi jim How do you store your potatoes for next year
Did u say rats?.
Hi Jim, purple potatoes need to be harvested when the shoots die and the skins are thin, in my experience. They're like a new potato not a peeler.
