I just finished doing my intake manifold and I unpluged everything putting it back together was a drag...I wish I would have come across ur vid first.....leaving everything hooked up would have made it alot easier....Thanx
Have looked at other vid's do this. Most are 40++ min long. And they all have you take off every single thing. Whereas you just unbolt and set it aside. Brilliant!!! Your vid is no BS side talk and to the project. Plus you give info on tool size. Best repair vid ever.
Getting ready to do my 2006 towncar, have watched at least 10 people do this job. I am here to say, you are by far the best yet. thank you very much.37 years at General Foods ,design, manufacture, lay out, assemble, then make it work food processing machinery.. Your good. Thanks for telling the socket sizes you used as you went. A+ job. dan t. palm springs calif
It sucks that such a well build engine has this annoying and somewhat expensive problem. My 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis was used on Scotty Kilmer's channel and he loves the cars. Just wish Ford didn't cheap out on plastic.
Other videos on RUclips show mechanics disconnecting everything. Including fuel rail lines, throttle body and throttle cables etc.. etc.. Unneeded extra work. ECANIX GARAGE right here is the best, easiest way of doing your intake manifolds. Wish I knew this 8 yrs ago when I did my first one. Have to do one tomorrow on my 2003 Grand Marquis. Doing new plugs, new coils and a new temp sensor, thermostat at the same time. Thanks again!
bro i just accidentally ordered a manifold that says it will fit up to year 2000 with the 8th digit on the VIN being 'W'..my marquis is a 2001 with the 8th digit a 'w'..? will it work
Great video! Thanks for showing the under-hood detail and mentioning all the socket sizes needed to break bolts loose. I am just getting ready to do this repair on my 99' MGM. Your video really helped curb some anxiety. Thanks, man !
Mentioned @ 11:16 is the difficulty you had in unbolting an already loosened bracket you are lifting up. Unfortunately you have no coverage of the problem: It involves the removal of a stud which bolts the lower part of the shown bracket. The stud cannot be seen. It is screwed into the D/S cylinder head. This is the major difficulty in removing the IM from FOMOCO passenger cars and I was hoping to see if you had any approach which would make it easier.
Nice informative video. I especially liked the technique of removing the throttle body with throttle and cruise control cables attached without removing them and moving the fuel rail without removing the main fuel line. Big time savers. Looks like a flat rate mechanic at work here. :)
Awesome!!!!! You took all the major anxiety out of my thinking that it was too huge of a job to undergo. Great job and very inspiring. I feel a huge amount better. Thank you very much!
OMG, that tidbit with the 'extra electrical connector' shown at 8:46 saved my A$$! I had accidentally mixed up the bolts and that stud holding down the firewall end of passenger side fuel rail was elsewhere and I Could Not Locate where to plug it in nor any videos on the subject. some ground wire for who knows what but no doubt this saved me some future check engine problems! THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS GREAT VIDEO. keywords: 4.6L wiring harness black wire fuel injector ground ?
Great job. Maybe edit at the end with suggested additions: torque specs, plus mention inspecting/ replacing that friggin coolant hose under those that have it. thx for posting a brief video!
Thank you, thanks to you, THANKS to all of the 'Mechanically Inclined' for what you are willing to tackle that for the rest of the population is unfathomable. It truly is just amazing to us whom rely on your talents. I traded a solid and dependable '09 Tacoma regular cab 4X2 w/67K miles for a 2001 beautiful Grand Marquis that had been driven by the 'Church Lady' once a week to and fro church on Sunday; (so went the story} and then she parked her luxury liner in her garage the rest of the week only stopping on the way home to alight a neighbor or two whom she had chauffeured to Sunday's sermon. She has passed on since and this beautiful car caught my eye and I didn't need a pickup as much as my ego wanted this dark blue carriage topped faux convertible over a light blue sleek body that shined and then I swore it spoke to me, "Take me!" So yes, only too late now I have found out that troubled waters lie ahead. This 16 year old beauty may only have just over 54K on the odometer and a CARFAX that read like a juvenile delinquent's rap sheet but I feel I took a wrong turn that is going to cost me a 'Grand' or two in green backs before I feel I will go any farther than the 20 or 30 miles round trip to work and the grocery store. I continue to search out stories as I find owner's that I meet as to how long it was before they did the repair, replacing this manifold, as you might expect most did the repair before 100K when the thing cracked and so I expect I'll keep a watch out for that sweet sickening smell of coolant save $1,000.00 find a reputable and talented mechanic and switch out the OEM for the best replacement I can get at the time. I 'Liked' watching your video and felt that if I had the nerve to attempt the repair that I'd be grateful to have your video to get me through the miserable task.
just a real pain! how the world to remember all the stuff no wounder people forget bolts and nuts no wounder all thoes nuts bolts on the floor of shops those are parts they forgot to put Back! and we pay the price later!:dumb idiot did my engine left a bolt loose and left the alerternator bottom bolt off . well it snapped the right one off and broke off the left top of the engine timing chain cover a $1000 part at dealer! my vans been sitting for four months. so sad. now he says its $250 for used cover and new timming chain.oil and radiator fluid again. I just had the engine put in .with new mounts, new plugs and some misc gaskets.
i am ready to replace the intake and i rushed to buy the aftermarket one with the built in gaskets, but i actually found many videos physically showing the flaws of this "upgraded" model. I was able to get a good deal at the dealer for the proper Ford one with metal ceossover and metal threads for the coil bolts, separate gaskets (basically just replacing the gaskets in the future) and it comes with water housing, thermostat and upper hose. For everyone out there wanting to spend the extra 200 for peace of mind
I just finished up, taking my buddies manifold off... ( Grand Marquis 2000 LS). that's where my good luck ended... I found oil on the plugs (coil pack side) what should I do now? also finding sludge in the lower manifold coolant ports; more so on the drivers side.. my question is what should I do now... I have read that I need to replace the valve cover gasket and seals. Is this true? Also will I have to remove the master cylinder and booster? That part sort of scares me as I have never done one... Once I got everything out I did find that removing the windshield wiper assembly and motor gave the access to those rear bracket bolts... note: I checked inside ports ( had a good bit of char but didn't see any oil inside them or burned intake valves.. Good sign? We did choose to go with Dorman HOWEVER the part did come with an edit... the holes for the coils are now metal... and I got two brackets... didn't go dealer due to cost...
Chad Cutlip no you won’t have to remove brake components.. the oil on plugs could have been from the previous intake leaking.. the valve covers don’t usually leak from the high side( the side nearest the plugs) however if it is, change them out.
how is that intake working out for you i bought one from a&m auto off ebay , noticed oil in my spark plug holes so had to change valve cover gaskets , still working on passenger side , had to remove passenger motor mount and raise engine to access valve cover bolts....it is also recommended you not to use anything abrasive to remove gasket material ...get permatex gasket remover it works great ...good video very informative
Fantastic video! Just went through about 2/3 of this today on my 2002 Crown Vic. This would have helped to see beforehand! Small bolts and large nut on the EGR are both corroded on there pretty good so I'm going to try and soak in PB Blaster...
Whats that cap at the bottom of that yellow mark in the engine bay? I took my intake manifold off and my hole is open. Looks like the pieces was in the engine bay.
I like it, skipped all the BS and right to what you need to do. No repositioning of camera, or watching you change your sockets, etc, just to the point...Like it ...was a BIG help in my first manifold swap!!!
thank you for the video. Do you happen to know what brand and part number is that intake manifold? Is it the aftermarket or original from Ford? Thank you
I did everything and replaced the gaskets. Now I'm getting a P0720 code. Is there a connection missed or possibly damaged when I put it all back together to make the code show? The output speed sensor circuit is the p0720 code.
Carlos Posada I believe I️t is best with left hand from the driver side. Get yourself a short ratcheting box wrench or a 1/4 drive socket and ratchet and you should be able to get I️t. And yes, maybe laying on motor if your short lol.
...dude... Thanks!!! That heat shield is the only thing stopping me..i watched a vid of a newer model and it didnt have that (or maybe cuz it was a vid for a Crown Vic?).. that shield is the only thing holding the manifold in... Will now be able to get it did!
Be careful if swapping intakes. My 2000 towncar intake was cracked where the rear hose hooks up. I also have a 2001 town car. I removed the intake off of it, to swap it for the 2000. As my luck goes, the intake off of the 2001 is deeper. The coolant tube that is under the intake on the 2000(same as car on video), , goes around it on the 2001 because of the larger bottom, so it won't fit on the 2000. Grrrrr, Ford!
Take pictures at every step. Or video it. I do this evetime I take something apart for the first time. Defiantly going to do it this time since I don't know if it's my seals or a crack. May have to order one and wait a week for delivery and would forget a step or two.
Wow this does look daunting to me. Your video is excellent and it does make it look easy. Awesome video. You did not have to install an insulator with the new intake ? Thank you
Does anyone know if I can use 4.6l Mustang parts on my 96 grand marquis I would like to make it alittle faster or have a website that I can like a cold air intake
F putting that stud bolt back in on bracket, not needed. I replaced plugs, coils and injector seals. Just to be sure. Also cylinder head temp sensor. I was thinking changing the knock sensor too. If the surface is pitted use some permatex black in that area. You don't have to remove the tube on EGR if stuck , take 2 bolts out of throttle body. Careful putting it back together if you drop any thing it might go down under the intake.
So you wouldnt recommend replacing with Dorman? My Intake started leaking today I went out and bought a new one it's a duralast part and I pull a camper with my Explorer I need top end power
This is an AWESOME video, but the speaking volume is SO LOW I can't hear it on my tablet out in the garage. The theme song is loud, but you need to boost the rest.

Prentice Quince this video is step by step! By far the hardest Part is that one bolt on the driverside rear cylinderhead. Your waterpump is leaking and your intake?
i know my intake manifold is leaking for sure and my water pump i really don't know but i bought both water pump and intake a week ago still haven't started on the car yet.. i can do the water pump myself but that intake is a lil too much for me to mess with.. don't wanna forget to put something back lol lol..
Would like to meet the fool that designed this manifold, have to remove complete manifold because it is impossible to get on ONE bolt to fix a simple leak on the cross-over water tube.
