    It’s awesome that Ford stepped up and started making these. You can search for NOS originals but they don’t exist anywhere. I have a 99 GT with its original plastic crossover and I dreaded having to put a Dorman on it.

    • @NewEdgeDesigns
      @NewEdgeDesigns 5 месяцев назад +6

      It’s trash!! You can clearly see the design is quite close to the old Dorman crab, I don’t understand what the issue is with making the OG..

    • @MustangFord
      @MustangFord 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@NewEdgeDesigns The issue is with the rights holder. Ford partnered with a company, and that company owns the rights to the design of the original PI intake.
      So Ford partnered with Dorman to release this version that is MUCH higher quality and it has upgrades. Like the metal tube that goes to the heater core in the back. It used to be plastic, now its metal.
      They also upgraded the aluminum crossover in the front, its is now ALL aluminum down to where it mates with the engine. Before there was plastic underneath the aluminum crossover on the drivers side, where the thermostat goes.
      They also upgraded the plastic material, its much more better quality than the material used on the original PI.
      It also doesnt need gaskets because they are integrated.
      Its Ford quality that is UNMATCHED by any other brand out there.
      The design might affect horsepower by a tiny amount, but you have 4.6 that was released in 1993, so be happy or go find a used old P.I intake.
      If you want to go racing, get a better engine or a different car. ITS OLD NOW.
      The choice is yours.
      Its almost unheard of that a car company like Ford releases parts after DECADES later.

    • @dalelockett2619
      @dalelockett2619 6 месяцев назад +1

      IMHO.......the only thing that needs to be understood by the phrase "Off Road Use Only" is that this Ford replacement OEM PI intake manifold wasn't independently tested to certify compliance w\ the EPA Federal OEM emissions certification stds of the MY 4.6L 2V engines from 1999 thru 2004 & nothing else..........has nothing to do w\ any rated engine HP\TQ outputs based solely on this intake manifold's plenum & runner design. The truth is that this is more related to the cyl head's port velocity\volume design than the IM..........FWIW.

    Obviously selling this as a “Ford Performance” part is misleading, bordering on fraud, but one thing I see in the video that makes me happy is that the aluminum crossover FINALLY seals directly to the heads! Since almost every PI manifold fails where the plastic manifold and aluminum crossover meet, this new design should mean never having to replace the manifold again! I still wouldn’t use it on a car where performance is a concern, but for the countless panther cars and daily driver SN95s, it could be a decent option.

    I'm sitting on quite a few intakes that I've used for my PI swapped 98 GT, including a rare HPS Hardballer and original FRPP SVO w/the matching SVO heads. That difference in performance and quality vary more than most realize. The coolant port towards the back has broken on at least 2 of my OE PI intakes. Personally I found this VERY interesting! I'm also glad Ford continues to offer new parts for their heritage vehicles. Great video I appreciate and enjoyed it very much!

      @@davidduker4441 It looks like the coolant port for this new one is a two piece design and apparently the coolant port for this new intake is made out of metal. A nice upgrade in that aspect for sure.

And through hp tuners optimizing timing, fueling, etc we are still making good steam at 6000 rpm where we usually shift them out. 6200 on at the chip. I have a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis with what appears to be the original Ford PI manifold with aluminum crossover and gaskets. It recently got a small leak from the bottom side of the intake gasket, under near the thermostat. Can i keep my original intake, assuming good condition, and just replace the gaskets?

    • @latemodelrestoration
      @latemodelrestoration  4 месяца назад

      You'll have to remove it from the car and diagnose the leak. I'm just taking a guess, but it could be that the plastic is cracked causing the leak. That's usually what happens as I've replaced several PI intakes with this issue. Hopefully, it's just the gasket. Good luck! -Landan
