Making a leather handle for a knife is a classic. Here is a short video on how we pulled off this rustic piece.
nice work. made one myself. 1 peice of advice: use less glue, it expands slightly when it hardens, that way there are not dark spots between the spacers. Also shoe glue works really well and is more flexible and durable than 2 part epoxy
Yeahhhh.
That's a
Never again.
It's too much work for the result.
Thank you though!
nice work dude......people just do not know how hard this to do ..........good video...thx
A very beautiful handle! Well done
You helped me over come an issue, threading the tang. Thanks.👊🏼
It is an excellent work.
Nice, thanks
good video. thank you
Good job
What size hole and tap and die do you suggest for these knives? Thank you
A dangerous job sanding leather on a belt. Highly carcinogenic....on a par with asbestos dust.
Couldn't see on the I'd but hope you had a good filter-mask on.
Awesome video! I’ll be checking out more after this. I do have a question if you don’t mind? How long do you let it soak in the wood hardener?
VERY NICE
That’s a great video and thanks for sharing that. Just a couple of bits I’m unsure about and my apologies for asking, what did you use in the cup to smear onto the leather pieces when placing them on. Was it adhesive, or resin? It would help me if you get back to me on it. Also the wood hardener I’ve never seen it before is it easy to obtain? Thanks again though for putting this on for us
Dave
How long does it need to soak in the hardener?
Really like this, might have to try it myself! How easy would you say this is as I don't have much experience?
A leather handle?
A little more advanced.
I highly recommend using wood rather than leather but some people like both.
I'd try wood first.
great knife cool vid
Thank you kindly!
Make sure to check out the other videos.
In the description, there is a nice little link that leads to our Facebook page.
We'd highly appreciate it if you liked it.
Thank you for your time!
Great looking handle. You've got a new sub.
Thank you!
Not our best work, but it is a gorgeous piece either way.
Make sure to check out the other videos!
+F-Knives: Custom Blades And Handles I did and have ordered a mora classic. 1. just to make a handle myself. Thanks for inspiring me. Keep up the good work.
Make sure to let us see how it turns out, we love ot see work from fans, in the description, there is a link to both our eBay and Facebook page.
Best of Luck!
brilliant except I have none of those tools
+dfcvda
That's a given, But I started making knives very crudely, you don't need any of these tools other than a rasp to shape the product, it is only cutting squares of leather. And sanding them.
Hi , congratulations for your work not only in this video but in the other videos as well.
I would like to know what kind of glue you used to stick the pieces of leather together.
Thank you!
Epoxy, 60 minute!
thank you very much
Why do the spacers that come into contact with the Cross guard and pommel have to be metal?
They don't have to, but it's better if they are because then anything that gets on the guards can just wash off and not soak into the leather.
Hey, I was wondering, what's the metal you're using ?
Dukke
It is a Lauri Blade, They're made in Europe, making the steel much better.
If you're talking about the handle, it is Aluminum and Stainless Steel.
i'm a new sub to your channel i have watched over half of your videos in the last day or two,i have really enjoyed the work you have put into these knives,i was wondering what is the liquid in the jar that your dipping the handle into at the end,and in some of the other videos i see you dipping the handles in a liquid and when you show a close up it's making tiny bubbles like it's fizzing, would love to hear back from you,all the best to you and yours
Thank you so much!
Usually oil, but some of use Wood Hardener which actually solidifies the wood pores and makes it much more water resistant.
Handles that need such treatment like the Leather Stacked Handle, benefit from this since leather is prone to get damaged by water.
I hope this helped!
very much so,thank you very much for getting back to me so fast, hope you and yours had a safe and Happy Easter

You as well brother.
Feel free to ask if you have any other questions!
Hey I would like to do a project very similar to this but I'm thinking about using a deer pelt that I recieved from this years harvest. Do you think the deer pelt would be to thin? could I just increase the amount of leather squares or just include blocks of wood inbetween? Final question: how long did you let the handle soak in the wood hardener?
Insanecrazyhorse
Great question.
I used Vegetable Tanned Leather. It really depends on the leather to be honest.
You can always give it a try you know?
It might come out looking great.
Lots of epoxy or like someone commented in a previous comment, Shoe glue. I haven't tried the shoe glue.
I soaked the handle until the leather stopped bubbling, about 7 times.
It takes an average of 8 hours to dry each layer.
Fantastis thank you very much for the response. I thought I'd make a unique knife with the pelt because it was from my first buck so it would be commemorative. I think it would be well worth a try. The leather may be very thin but with the compensation through epoxy it could stiffen the leather and with the combination of some nice wood and brass i think it could turn out fairly well.
I don't think the deer hide wouldn't be thick enough for the number of washers you'd need. Instead, why not make the sheath out of the hide? You'd be able to display more of the hide that way, and dress it up any way you like.

I like that idea as well
as I'm not a fan of leather stacked handles haha
Did you use basic wood epoxy?
Karlsson96
Nope Used Loctite
Some people say you can use several things like contact adhesive and such
why did you groove this piece in particular. haven't seen that on your other videos
Well, this is a different type of construction.
you can't just put a leather collar because it won't be able to serve as a strong first piece.
Using a piece of aluminum is a bit better.
+F-Knives: Custom Blades And Handles gotcha. Thanks man. been watching this all day
+micheal vega
If I could make a suggestion
Out of all handle materials that I could ever use
the last one I'd use again is leather
it's super classic looking and all
But not worth the high amount of processing it needs when it comes to finishing to just look like layers.
You're better off just layering pieces of wood the thickness of leather.
Hope this helped
+F-Knives: Custom Blades And Handles Definitely will do. If it means anything I like how this one looks !
+micheal vega
If you like it, check out the eBay Listing, we're super flexible with prices
Isnt there an easier way to do it? Like with less leather?
That is a leather stack handle, not a leather wrapped handle
Good point
Read the title again :)
isn't that belly leather?... Won't mess all up when wet?
CellanKnight
Well, something not stressed in the video was the fact I dipped it in stabilizing solution around 14 times.
It was Rock solid.
But No, even if I hadn't, a great example of a leather handle is a Ka-Bar.
You just need to take care of them and oil them.
Thank you for watching :)
Hmmm, that's nice, then" I live in a small city, and asked leather to the leather working men here (sorry, I don't know the word, I'm brazilian) and they did'n want to give me, because it would melt in hands, and discouraged me :T
But now thank you for encouraging me again hahahhaha really
I really love your work, you make really awesome handles and knives.. I am still starting in this hobby, and you are my inspiration. Don't you have a website?
CellanKnight
Odd, I actually used Tanned Vegetable Shoulders.
Which is great for wet forming and tooling
So maybe it depends.
CellanKnight
I actually don't have a website sadly. It's pretty expensive if I do say so myself (around 1500) to have a basic website made.
Thank you for your comments :)
4:18 - The leather looks like bacon. Like a stacked bacon handle.
Darth Vader making knives
i thought you were putting pieces of cheese on the tang
Challenge accepted.
I started with Woodglut plans.
do it yourself , go to woodprix page and learn how .
When we were in school how many of our teachers taught silently? They use their words to describe and explain. School of Mime...maybe. If you can’t speak my language couldn’t you speak your language? Then I could translate 🤷🏻
Really dislike mute videos!!
Rich Sargent
Then make some videos of your own, deeply explaining how to make a handle.
:)
you forgot to add leather yeah it looks like leather but you didn't add leather to it i was looking for something REAL not a ripoff of pleather, but other than that good build so i will give you a like for that
It was
Literally
9 Ounce Vegetable Tan Leather (known as tooling leather)
Maybe stick to making knifes and leave video making to the professionals.
