- Sorry for all the mic popping, these live videos have me constantly bustling around while I make wild strokes at my tablet. I don't even know what this is actually about. Are clothing folds too simplistic to make a video about? I recommend putting this on and taking a nap.
its funny how free youtube videos actually teach more content compared to the design school I attended for a year. Thanks Sinix!
wocb its not actually free he can monetise his vids tho
DaRealG_Crafter this is true but at the same time all it costs us is watching the video, which we already want to do, and a short ad.
wocb hahah no prob 😀
Right? I learned more in the Andrew Loomis books I purchased for a grand total of what... 30 per book times four? Vs my 60k+ college education. So many more resources are available now that college's one advantage is someone guides you through what to learn first. And that you're a dedicated student, not part time. Still.... the costs. The way I see college now is it's go big or go home. Find a school that has VERY good job placement after graduation, or don't bother. The networking is more valuable than the degree.
Agreed. I'm noticing in almost every endeavor, those who are motivated enough to learn on their own and pursue excellence, are far more successful than those who plod through the one-size-fits-all approach of higher education.
Many find that they're a quick study and can't handle the slow pace of a 6-8 week college course. Those are the kids who always got lost in public schools - from boredom.
The internet is changing everything. Higher education is a colossal waste of huge amounts of money unless you're training for something specific like mechanical engineer, lawyer (yuck), doctor. Higher education is soon to become passe and obsolete.
Wait
Are you telling me that t-shirts are called t-shirts
_because they're shaped like the letter T??_
misterDVader mind=blown
LOL I realized the same and went crazy
...
misterDVader duh
i'm so glad that there was this comment here because i felt so dumb
I would have liked to see a little discourse on fabric type and weight and how it affects clothes. Very light fabric will have more folds and movement, like chiffon or silk. Middle weave fabrics like cotton will have a little more stiffness and natural structure. Heavy fabrics like denim and velvet will have deeper drapes but less folding overall and a stiffness to them. And knits will have chunky folds that are rounder. Fabric choices will have a very profound affect on what you draw. If you make your jeans too 'folded' and draped, it looks like they are wearing sweatpants instead. If the velvet skirt has too much movement and drape, it looks like velveteen. The weave and weight has a very crucial part in art. I actually really recommend going to a fabric store and pulling the bolts out. You can see the natural drape of the fabric off the bolt that way and get a good idea how weight looks in fabric.
thank you. this was actually information that i needed and was hoping for in the video.
@@saryenn Oh, of course! I'm really happy I helped! It's a great little tutorial, but I remember thinking it was missing something. :)
That's actually so true, have you found a video that covers that?
@@JohnSmith-zf1lq Mmm, I haven't. But I'll take a gander at some tonight and see what I can find.
In the meantime, there's a really neat site you can use to practice figure drawing and timed drawing. There is an option for only clothed models, and the variety of clothing is extensive. There's an option to skip and pause the pictures too, so if you find a style of outfit or fabric or pose you really like, you can keep it there.
Anyway, it's here if you want to take a gander! I'll come back if I find any good fabric videos. reference.sketchdaily.net/en
Studies where you draw, sketch, or paint different examples from fashion mags, pinterest-- drag shows even, are all great ways to get a hang of this concept :]
Thanks Sycra. Keep up the great work on your channel! If anyone doesn't know of Sycra, be sure to click his name and be teleported to a vast library of commentated art tutorials!
Of corse i know both of you are amazing!!!!

Great advice. Doing clothed figure drawing is definitely a big help. It's nice to go back and forth between practicing from ref and then without ref. If you're mindful of something like the clothing folds, then drawing without ref will help you with the ref, and vice versa. Like a snowball of improvement.
Really great tutorial sinix!! I was being asked to do a tutorial on folds, but I think this is probably better than what I could come up with so I'm just gonna promote the sh*t outta this one!
Well, sycra came from your channel.
You succeded.
i know it is kinda randomly asking but does anyone know of a good website to watch new series online ?
@Otto Maximus I use flixzone. You can find it on google :)
@Otto Maximus lately I have been using flixzone. You can find it on google =)
hey
HEY
are you saying they are _happy little folds_?
I think I have spotted a Bob Ross fan
He's like Bob Ross, but a little creepy and a little more direct with the mild humor
Sad big wrinkles
Sinix:” remember fabrics is lazy, fabric doesn’t want to do anything just hanging around...”
Me: i am a fabric then...
Man, when your figures popped up at 7:40, I just had to pause the video and stare.Your figures look so effortless, like they were nothing to draw. Nice job, man. I love your style. I'm trying to get this good, so thanks for the inspiration.
+Cosmic Wishbone there were most likely drawn using construction, which was hidden xD
+NRG Flash Yeah, you're right. It looks so effortless though! That's what happens when you start getting good.
+NRG Flash Actually sinix doesn't use construction or guidelines. You can check out his streams and he just goes straight for the form.
Many might have told you this: "God, Sinix, why are you so addicted in giving people premium lessons for free?!" Thank you's and likes and comments in this video is not enough to express my gratitude. But I'll thumbs up, and thank you, and comment because that's all I can do for now. Later, donations are coming your way
I really like your explanations, so laid back while being super informative. Very nice!
I just realized this video is 9 years old. Still so helpful. Thank you.
man clothing really kills me. gonna have to practice it like crazy
lol im curious too, and do u have any tips that helped you?

Whats up now
U good at it now?🤣
hahahahhhaaha it is fun to come back so much and hear a younger Sinix struggling with the talk!!! hahahaa
And thanks, this video is very good!
A suggestion... why not reduce the opacity of the figures? (I'm only to 13:41). People would still get what you're coming from and you'd be able to better see the lines you are laying down. May be better overall, as we can only see what you see, too. The narration nails the points, though, so the video was still quite helpful. Thank you for taking the time to help people.
I absolutely love the way you describe things. It is a lot easier to remember that clothes are super lazy and just want to lie around than think about the physics of each individual fold
After hearing it explained like this it seems so simple! Thank you, this was really helpful.
I got to the ball part and had to pause and comment. This has already helped to clear up so much. You are amazing. OK, I'm gonna keep watching now.
Something else that you need to take into account is the movement, how fast, and the direction of that movement not only the shape and the fabric.
Sinix: I hope I'm making sense...?
Me: You have opened up NEW WORLDS, my humble friend!
I've never been able to find a tutorial on how to draw clothes at different angles. (example: how to draw a shirt if the person is sideways. how far back is the collar part supposed to be?) It would be really awesome if you could do a tutorial on that
reference/ perspective practice would help

Wow, I love your poses at 8:30. xD
The third one makes me wonder how you even thought of it.
It's like the torso is hot tub reclining, and the lower body is like |Nothingtodohere0fucksgiven.jpg|
thanks so much!! this was the best video to give me a simple and clear foundation of clothing and how folds work! i can drape any further knowledge from this hanging point! :)
The first part of this video was actually the most informative lesson on folds I've seen or read. It wasn't just "draw a line here, now add another here".
Thanks for the videos as always Sinix.
I love the way you draw figures with the smooth minimal lines, and your anatomy and poses are great - A tutorial that covers this would be awesome!
folds folds everywhere for no reason xD! i keep looking back and through ur great tutorials
I identify as a fold now, thanks for enlightening me Sinix...
your art tutorials have helped my art improve vastly since watching them! thanks for making these and keep up the great work!
The way he describes the cloth/fabric that is desperate to go back to being lazy and lay on the ground kinda reminds me of my self
you two guys have the best and most easy to follow video tutorials!
can't wait for the next one every time!
1:56 Same, fabric folds, same...I know I'm late to the party, but great tutorial Sinix! You explain it so simply. Super helpful, especially in that beginning portion!!
I love your voice and how you explain things. Makes me feel more confident in trying to draw.
whenever i work on an illustration where clothing is important or hard to draw, i just watch a bit of this video to get my brain to work it out. it's so helpful! thank you sinix
you sir is one of my favourite artist witrh sycra, you'r a master merci beaucoup :
I've never had proper education with drawing eventhough I've been drawing for 8 years now(I draw when I have time). Thanks to Sinix I'm improving with my anatomy and techniques! First vid I watched was drawing eyes and I subscribed right away. The paper technique helped me better in drawing faces. Now, I'm watching this for clothes! 😭💜
Your videos are incredibly helpful and may I just say... you sound adorable!!!!
"Fabring is lazy, fabric doesn't wanna do a bunch of stuff. Fabric just wanna hang around"
My mom is she can watch this:
"Maybe, you and your dad are fabrics"
Your videos have been some of the best art educational videos I've ever seen. Also, I now understand why T-Shirts are called T-Shirts.
Clothing and folds are so difficult I'm so happy you did a tutorial for this
Sinix you're so cool! I love the way you explain things
great art man thanks for doing it for free, one love
I wanna play a drinking game with "fold" and "radiating" :D
good video I enjoyed it :)
Amazing!! Helped me a lot, thank you! Also you are pretty entertaining and that helps not getting distracted from watching the video, like you want to keep paying attention! Also I love the right girls pose it's fabulous!
I really like how you explain the load bearing points! It actually speeds up my understanding of drawing cloths like 10 times instead of observing and drawing and not understanding what I'm drawing, XD
great vid, but maybe you could do an updated one? since it's been 11 years you've certainly learnt some more!
great video just wished there would be more variation in the clothes like maybe a hoodie and so on so theres different fabric :)
Watch draw with jazza's video on how to draw clothing. He talks about how to deal with different weights of fabric.
I'd love to see your approach to teaching this subject 10y later, Sinix. Love your work, always.
This is a great video! You really don't need to apologize so often, you can just say what you think is off and why since you drew it so fast because that's still learning (:
Maan, your figures are always really cool and alive-looking, even the static pose on the left looks really natural and loose. I'd love to see a new video about how you draw figures.
Great video as usual, this is very helpful. Thanks for sharing the knowledge Sinix.
Great video! About the average person's pants.. I think you could have added some folds that follow the crotch/leg joints?
v or M folds would make it look like the person actually walks in those pants while - shaped folds like there make it more look like a butt HAHA I'm rambling, my english isnt so good sometimes but maybe you get my point
Crotches differ between male and female and are really confusing tbh
Thanks for all yours video!
I would love to see a video on the elbows, please!
And good luck for the rest!
I'm not near as good a teacher as sinix is but i found for me with my linework is to have your feet planted securely on the floor. It is much easier to support yourself this way. Keep your body still and only really use your arm/shoulder to sketch and arm/wrist to render. Also, vary your line width with purpose; bold lines away from the light source, thin/implied lines near the light. Have confidence in your lines. Look at where you're going, not where you are, this will help create clean lines.
im watching all ur videos YOU HAVE HELPED ME IMPROVE SO MUCH THANK U
Yes,yes he did and if you don't have one I recommend you get one, they are great :).
this was VERY helpful actually.. thank you :) awesome video!
I know this is an older post but I think it's pretty awesome to see fairly well known artists promoting each other on youtube! :) I've seen a few of yours before but I got some extra respect for you now
10 yrs ago and this reconmend for me
Sinix is the goat teacher
Hey, thanks a bunch man! Now that all of that's cleared up, I'm keeping the folds and wrinkles to a minimum (I also did the same thing with too many folds, but in the future I won't). This really made understanding how clothing works a lot simpler, and I hope you make some more on the matter!
Thank you. You're the best. You make so much sense.
I absolutely love your videos. They've motivated me so much to try and be better with artwork.
And this video is helpful just as a refresh, and sometime you point out things that I never knew.
Though, I'd like to say that I did learn how to do folds from Art Attack (not sure if America had that), but yeah. He had a lesson on clothing folds when I was about 7 (15 years ago). And for some reason it has always stuck xD
You are wonderful! How long have you been drawing on computer? There's nothing more relaxing than watching someone draw. Thank you!
this is really helping me! i always have problem with folds in my clothing and can never put them in so my pictures look plain. thank you!
This guy is so wholesome
Great tutorial, it was hilarious listening to you talking about the third model, but I feel for you, it's really awkward for guys to talk about "breasts", even if it's just for the interest of art.
I never earlier realized why T-shirts were called T-shirts. Sinix, you blow my mind again! :p
I wish I had found this video while I was working on one of my animations.
Finally a new vid! Been checking 2-3 times daily!
Really good teacher.
Dios este canal es tan god, gracias por tus consejos 👌
I like how he describe fabric as a lazy subject.
Challenge: Take a sip every time he says “folds”.
Edit: I think I killed my liver
Edit 2: Guys, where’d my liver go?
Gone, reduced to atoms.
Manuel AHAHAHAHAHA
Thank you so much Sir !!
I had some insight about clothes.
You are a great teacher. Thank you.
couple of issues on the cloths perspective, but very interesting way of explaining. that helped a lot
As an idea for other videos: I might be wrong but I couldn't find a guide about your brushes/the way you use them! Eg when I paint I tend to make too many too soft blends while your work always has a certain... edgieness to your coloration which gives them soul and makes anything like texture or pore-brushes unnecessary. I really love this and would like to hear some thoughts to that topic?
Did you just say "karate pajamas" xD Very very good video though keep it up bro :)
Your video quality has improved a LOT!
This was actually really helpful! I was wondering how folds work a lot lately :D
Very very good video !
WOW i love the way you teach :)

The third one is my personal favorite :)
Very good lesson. It's just because of my style, but He seems to use less folds than is necessary.
Thank you!
It's be helpful if you drew the clothing extremely loose with a lot of folds.

This was extremely helpful. Thanks!
Is it OK to draw all my characters wearing bootcut jeans?
artists: draw a line
me trying to do that same line: How do you do that?
This video is 10 years old😳😳
You two guys are great haha!
dunno if you're going to see this, but is it possible to see a 2019 version of this? would be really great, i have learnt SO much from your videos :D
I just noticed how long ago this video was uploaded
Oh Sycra, you're not working hard, you're working smart o.-
This is a really good tutorial sinix! but im wondering if you can do more anatomy practice things, i have hard time drawing figures and gestures! or even just gesture tutorial!
