@idontcare80 and I was always taught not to fiddle with knobs or dials even when driving, full stop. One would wager that the important controls are still easily accessible, and the irrelevant crap like checking the stock exchange requires you to pull over. Besides, voice activation is a great addition that makes up for it.

I absolutely love Tesla Model S! I'm only little bit worried about the central console screen. It looks very nice but then you loose tactile feedback for when you need to change setting while driving (turn on/off AC, increase/decrease fan/heat/seat heater, hazard...) unless Tesla thought about that and actually integrated those features into the steering wheel?

@Hirotoro4692 That's true. I have a friend who converted his truck to run on H and all of his home appliances. Logistically speaking though H is a nightmare. Shipping, generation, lack of infrastructure, pressure etc, there are simply to many hurdles to consumer adoption. While there is already a robust electrical system where energy is available on demand. Energy density is truly the issue and that's where hydrogen wins, but once we crack that nut it's an all electric future.

  • @Real_MisterSir
    @Real_MisterSir 12 лет назад

@idontcare80 all the basic functions can be adjusted from the steering wheel as well, like radio, volume etc. I think the screen is mainly used for things like internet, GPS and tuning in on a certain radio station, things you wouldn't do while driving anyway. And if you needed some of the options on a longer ride, like road trip etc. there would most likely be someone next to you to do it for you?

@jamesstylers To further my argument how little power the touch screen uses do some simple maths.
assuming the touchscreen lasts 6 months on battery power if it's left running 24 hours a day without being plugged in, will last roughly 4,416 hours.
Divided by 1.7 (hours full charge will approx an average speed 70 mph for distance 125 miles)
You get 2,597. So every 2597 full charges depleted from driving = 1 charge depleted by touchscreen.
0.03 MILES are lost, per 125 mile trip...

@LordKelvinThomson I agree. Not only is a truck the perfect application of the electric motors extreme torque, it would also lend the whole ev segment a significant level of credibility in the consumer space. The bed would provide ample battery space and the weight distribution would be balanced much better than ICE trucks. Also the premium truck market is quite large. I know they are developing an SUV, but I would much rather see an aggressively styled truck like the Ford Raptor.

We are 7 years in, and big car companies are still struggling.
Volkswagen: Has 30,000 cars with faulty software sitting in the rain.
Audi, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz - These so-called ''Tesla killers'' are not Tesla killers.
BMW - Is still showing off shiny concepts and produces one electric car - A futuristic-looking urban car with not so great range and horrifying depreciation.
GM - They have the Bolt, also not a Tesla killer.
Porsche - The Taycan is great in performance and handling, but not that great in terms of range and weight + costs twice as much.
Ford - The Mach E (''competition'' for the Model Y) doesn't deliver on specs for the price.

I anxiously awaited several years for this car to come out and finally got to see the interior and dash.
For $50k minimum, display and touchscreen aside, even with carbon fiber trim the dash is very disappointing. The dash looks "off" somehow, managing to somehow evoke the "1970's". While the rest of the exterior and interior is sleek, elegant, and clean, the dash looks clumsy, plain, and ugly. The dash needs to be redesigned/"fixed" ASAP or it will remain a deal breaker.
