- Höhepunkte des ersten Tages am 09.07.1982 mit fast 40.000 (!) Zuschauenden: Marlies Göhr stellte mit 10,88 s ihren Weltrekord ein (übrigens: Florence Griffith wurde in 11,12 s Dritte) und Calvin Smith lief bei 2,1 m/s Rückenwind 9,91 s - 0,1 m/s Wind weniger und es wäre Weltrekord gewesen...
Der Ausschnitt hier war Teil einer MDR-Sendung im Jahr 2002.

2:28 das letzte Mal, dass deutsche und amerikanische Staffelsprinter so nahe beisammen waren (DDR-Rekord übrigens in 38,29 s - dieser hielt bis zum Zerfall der DDR. Erst 2022 gelang es einer deutschen Staffel, mit 37,99 s erstmalig unter 38 s zu bleiben)

Das war ein Spektakel ! Klasse.
Evelyn Ashford war zur Zeit dieses Länderkampfes in Europa. Sie startete aber in Oslo und verzichtete auch später in Brüssel auf das schon angekündigte Duell mit Marlies Göhr. Wollte Evelyn keine Niederlage gegen Marlies in Hochform riskieren? Ab 1983 gab es dann endlich wieder (die fast schon legendären) Aufeinandertreffen der beiden - beim USA-DDR-Länderkampf in Los Angeles am 25.06.1983 und den Weltmeisterschaften in Helsinki 1983 (jeweils Siege von Marlies Göhr) sowie in Zürich 1984 und Rieti 1986 (jeweils Siege von Evelyn Ashford).

LOL, baloney Ashford and Gohr were 12-3 (in favour of Ashford) H2H, and one of Gohr's victories was at the 1983 World Championships, were Ashford pulled a hamstring. The other 2 were at the World Cup in 77, and the dual meet 83 you mentioned. Ashford broke Gohr's WR (10.81) before the 1983 World Championships in 1983, with (10.79). Ashford defeated Gohr in the Montreal Olympics 76, in the semi-final and final, World Cup of 79, 81. She also beat Gohr indoors in February of 1983 at the LA Times games, over 60 yards (at this time the H2H was 5-1 for Ashford). After 1983, Gohr only tasted defeated when Ashford was on the line with her. In both the quarter-final and semi-final of the 1988 Olympics. Gohr didn't get the final, Ashford took a silver medal. Ashford also breezed past Gohr, on the anchor leg of the 4 x 100 meter relay in the 1988 Olympic final, she took the baton behind Gohr, and ran to Gold.

La potente Republica Democrática Alemana ( R.D.A.). Me preguntó pq insistieron tanto en unificar las dos Alemanias,( siempre buscaron el pretexto ,del Berlín Occidental y su maldito muro,no era político,era estratégicamente ,deportivo ). Los USA,nunca hubiesen tenido los records del mundo y olímpicos,q tienen,si no hubiese sido por la desaparición de la potencia q fue la RDA.Tenian casi todos los records mundiales en atletismo.y muchos otros deportes ,de marcas( pesas,tiro,arquería,remos,canotaje,etc y excelentes equipos de : boxeo,judo,lucha,gimnasia,voleibol,balonmano,básquet,polo acuatico,equitación,etc,etc,etc). La RDA era la principal amenaza olímpica ,para la extinta y poderosísima ,Unión Soviética ( URSS) y los USA.En solo 5 ,Juegos Olímpicos ,donde participo como RDA,( 1968,1972,1976,1980 y 1988) ,ganó 153 medallas de oro 🥇y más de 400 en total,quedando por encima de USA,en Montreal '76 y Los Ángeles '1988. ( Bonita historia ,verdad!!!!).

Let’s not forget the East German government sponsored the largest doping program in athletics and swimming history. Let’s not go overboard admiring athletes who later admitted they were chemically enhanced.
Marlies Göhr (ARD 2009): „Wer 13 Jahre Weltspitze ist, der kann nicht laufend Doping nehmen. Du musst eine absolute Grundlage haben, gute athletische Voraussetzungen, ein Riesentalent und eine Motivation, dass du immer zum Höhepunkt fit bist. Das kann man nicht nur, indem man eine Pille schluckt und dann los rennt. Ich weiß, wie ich trainiert habe und was ich vor den Wettkämpfen gemacht habe. Das muss ich keinem beweisen."
Phasenweise gedopt wurde bereits in den 1970/80er Jahren in allen in der Leichtathletik führenden Ländern. Unstrittig ist, dass in der DDR Doping zentral gelenkt und (geheim) dokumentiert wurde. Dagegen war im „Westen“ Doping dezentral organisiert, Akten sind deshalb kaum auffindbar. Sprinterinnen der Weltspitze von damals (Ines Geipel gehörte nicht dazu - ihr Frust über Erlebnisse ab 1984 ist nachvollziehbar) haben Doping zugegeben: Diane Williams (USA), Angella Issajenko-Taylor (Kanada), Linda Haglund (Schweden). Figur und Laufstil sind individuell und deshalb kein Indiz. Einige behaupten, dass Annegret Richter (BRD), Evelyn Ashford oder Florence Griffith-Joyner (beide USA) nie gedopt haben - das finde ich sehr naiv.

The investigation came after Ines Geipel, a member of the record-holding East German women's 4x100 metres relay team, asked for her record from 1984 to be struck off. She revealed she had been doped. In a separate case another former East German swimmer Karin König is today suing the German Olympic committee for damages. König claims that she was also a victim of doping between 1982 and 1987.
This state-sponsored doping regime played a decisive role in the dazzling success of East German athletes in international competitions - most notably at the 1976 Montreal Olympics and the 1980 Moscow games. But it also left a terrible legacy, the athletes' lawyers argue.
The victims all received Oral-Turinabol - an anabolic steroid containing testosterone made by Jenapharm. The "blue bean" had astonishing powers - accelerating muscle build-up and boosting recovery times - but its subsequent side effects were catastrophic: infertility among women, embarrassing hair growth, breast cancer, heart problems and testicular cancer. An estimated 800 athletes developed serious ailments.
The most public face of the doping scandal is Andreas Krieger - a shot-putter who took so many male hormones she decided to have a sex change.
One of the few other victims to have spoken publicly about her plight is the swimmer Rica Reinisch, who at the age of 15 won three gold medals in the 1980 Olympics. "The worst thing was that I didn't know I was being doped," she told the Guardian. I was lied to and deceived. Whenever I asked my coach what the tablets were I was told they were vitamins and preparations."
According to Prof Dr Werner Franke, a microbiologist who exposed the doping scandal after the fall of the Berlin Wall, East Germany's secret police kept meticulous records of the impact the drugs had on performance. A top-secret sporting medical committee including members of the Parteibüro, East Germany's communist leadership body, met to decide which members of the national squad were to be given the drugs. The aim was to show the superiority of the communist regime to its capitalist neighbour West Germany."
