I turned 16 in Feb 1963 and in June I threw a party for all of my friends in high school. Right about 8 pm with most of the guys and gals were there, I turned on the dual 75 watt McIntosh stereo (my older brother's), turned it up LOUD and put on WIPEOUT! The beginning of that song really got the party going. What a time and a very fond memory!
This was one of the greatest songs that I ever heard when I was a kid Wipeout I would like to thank you for sharing this music 👍🇺🇸 P. S. I AM NOW 66 YEARS OLD AND I CAN STILL LISTEN TO IT EVERY DAY. 👍👍
These guys came to my little town in '67 or '68, played at a dance when I was about 15 or 16. They were great. They partied with us, smoked some weed and drank some beer afterwards. They were great. And they were cool guys.
Back when I was in high school, every diner had a jukebox station at every table. You got one song for a dime and three for a quarter. Every time I got a chance, this was what I played. It still sounds great!
R.R. a DJ who plays wedding receptions told me (1988, way back) they can't play 'Wipeout' because everyone starts drumming on the tables, cutlery jumps, glasses go flying....Great song!
Let's Go Trippin' by Dick Dale and the Del-Tones. September 1961 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let%27s_Go_Trippin%27 The Surfaris were formed in Glendora, California in 1962. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Surfaris
I was born in 1970, and was listening to wipeout. This is truly a timeless song extending over generations pure genius and magic, thank you boys for this timeless song and for the cherished memories of summertime I'm now 52 years old and this song never gets old.
As a drummer playing in a band many years ago couldn't play any where without some one screaming ... PLAY WIPE OUT..when I said I'll play it if you'll dance to it... I guess they couldn't dance....lol...Cheers 🍻🍻🍻🍻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
When I was a kid, my grandmother gave me a bunch of '45's. This was included among the bunch, and really introduced me to pop music. I must have played that record 200 times on my all in one record player with the speaker lid! Wish I still had that '45 though....
Several of the guys were in our church back in the day. One Sunday afternoon we had a concert in an out door amphitheater. It was a blast. The guy who does the laugh in the beginning was up in LA working on a project. They got a hold of him on a sat phone and he did the intro!.
Everyone loved this song back then. This was it. I think I was in first grade and we all played the drum part with our fingers on the desk. It's the little things that count.
Wonderful Bob....and you certainly played your part in writing the song.....A+ royalties still I'm hoping..... Best regards from a fellow Surf Dawg.....
He got a green surfboard and a woody to match. When he's driving the freeway , man he's hard to catch. I heard that song about 55byears ago. Not since. You want to tell me how I remember the lyrics.
okay the lead on guitar is original!! At least I have that!! I am a huge fan of the original Surfaris but never could find any tapes of the band!! Love you guys!!
Fender and Ampeg tube amplifiers have an unmistakable sound- I'm NOT a music historian, nor am I a software designer, but from what I know, no digital software can replicate the sounds of Fender and Ampeg tube amplifiers. At least not yet.
Nice - back in 2011, I guess, when Bob Berryhill was then 64 yrs old - he's the same age as me (now 72). Nice lead work but he was the rhythm gtr player in the Surfaris when "Wipe Out" was cut - Jimmy Fuller on lead then. I'm sure they all collaborated on this number. Drummer Ronnie Wilson said he sped up the drum part from the cadence he used to play in his high school marching band's drum line - NOT from Preston Epp's "Bongo Rock", although, yes, similar. Anyway, the original DFS 45 credits the writer as "Ron Wilson" as does the follow-up 45 on Princess (both released in early 63). The national Dot 45 lists the writers as "The Surfaris", but not just Bob Berryhill.
Hi Danny, greetings from the UK.The Surfaris classic was released in Britain on the legendary London American label. My original well-worn copy disappeared at a party, followed closely by Louie Louie and later 96 Tears.I,ve replaced all 3,and none of them ever left the house again.
@@guidaroyster Hey ya - well greetings back to you from across The Pond! Hope you're well and I guess we're all in this COVID-19 thing together. Oh Man! Anyway, keep your eyes on your records at all times, Mate. Cheers.

Well. I know I have never gotten tired of it.
That’s how you know a song is really that good, when the band never gets tired of playing it!
Bob knows he's part of musical history, he has every right to enjoy himself. How in g--'s name can folks downthumb such obvious exuberance?
when you heard the first sounds knew the laugh was coming .
Today's so-called music is just not the same!!!
Back in Jr. High (70's) we could ALL play this on our desks with our pointer fingers! Yea baby!
Surfing music from the guys that created Surfing music, love this stuff!
I think you really mean Dick Dale
Listen to the guitar riffs.... thank Chuck Berry

Bob's enjoying himself more than anyone else in the house. Awesome.
I fell in love with the song the very first time I heard it!
Good to see them still playing:)

i WAS LIVING IN jAPAN WHEN I FIRST HEARD THIS SONG ON THE RADIO AROUND 1965
The nice thing is, I don't think I could ever get tired of playing that instrumental.
Historic song to say the least.....perfect match of guitar and drums.....The Surfaris.....and the rest is history.....

I love how much fun he's having playing this!
Geeez I feel old . The first time I heard Wipeout was at 11 years old over 53 years ago . Epic song .

One of the classics.
This and Green Onions by Booker T and MG's are about the two best instrumentals of all time.
Yes I totally agree
Grande Bob Berryhill!!! Parabéns cara você é um maiores solista que o mundo já viu. Surf Music e Rock Instrumental é tudo de bom......
One of my favorites from my teen years!
When I played out in clubs, at least once a night, up to three to four times a night, “Can you play Wipe Out?”
Saw them aat Lions ballroom, Long Beach, maybe 65, 66. Wow. He got old!

Olde Surfers don't WIPEOUT - just ROCK ON!
Great to see Bob still playing in this video!
What a great job
Got my first guitar in ‘64. You had to learn to play this song back then.
I'm learning it now....looks like he plays it further up the neck than I've been taught though.
Amazing what you can do with a Fender guitar and amp, I played that stuff in the 1960 ies when I was 15 years old... So great, Uwe.
yeah baby! He can still rock out!!!
Amazing what you can do with a simple blues progression!
The original " Wipe Out " Super Good

Wonderful Bob....and you certainly played your part in writing the song.....A+ royalties still I'm hoping..... Best regards from a fellow Surf Dawg.....
Best song to dance to ever!
Great rendition... they’ve definitely still got it!
LEGEND
Good sound for what is obviously an outdoor engagement & probably recorded with an old vcr camera or something equally antique.
He got a green surfboard and a woody to match. When he's driving the freeway , man he's hard to catch. I heard that song about 55byears ago. Not since. You want to tell me how I remember the lyrics.
Boys, you're marvelous!
That laugh is so iconic
Interviewed Bob not long ago, great interview!
OK OK ... Top top top (São Paulo - Brazil).
Yep...for every rock drummer the Wipe Out solo is a rite of passage.
And not easy to play
