Why West Virginia Fans SHOULD Expect More! | Neal Brown Controversy
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 16 окт 2024
- In this video, Couz dives into the state of the WVU football program and where it is in year six of the Neal Brown era. He will explain why West Virginia fans deserve more than what Neal Brown has given them and why they have every right to be demanding change. He will compare Neal's first six years to those of former Mountaineer coaches Don Nehlen, Rich Rodriguez, and Dana Holgorsen. He will also look at the first six years of fellow Big 12 coaches Matt Campbell of Iowa State and Chris Klieman at Kansas State.
Neal Brown made some controversial comments during a press conference today. Couz will also talk about that.
Finally, Couz will give Mountaineer fans a chance to join the show and share their thoughts. #wvufootball #wvu #nealbrown

Soft. That's how the entire Brown era will be remembered. Soft. There's no edge, never has been. No killer instinct, never has been. There's no urgency, ("Trust the climb" aka, "Be happy waiting while we're mediocre and expect little to nothing....but don't stop paying us."), never has been.
Now it's "Wasn't tailgating fun?". Listen, I've supported Brown and defended him for 5.5 years but I can't anymore. I want my alma mater to be successful. I want my fellow alumni and fans to be excited and happy and PROUD. It's not personal but Brown has shown no ability and no balls, he's not a good fit and I can no longer support this philosophy.
Everyone should just stay out in the lots and party and not even go into the stadium, entertain themselves. This guy is unbelievable.
This is exactly what my friend said to me while we were discussing it. C'mon Neal, you can't be that naive. Right?
@@timboWVU that would be something.
Only thing WVU Adm understands is empty seats. That is the only thing the fans have a say in.
Neal is everything you want in WVUs administration dream. Great guy, can win a few games, but not enough to move the bar one way or the other. He is in over his head, not going to say it wasn't a great hire at the time but now that the smoke has cleared it is. This fan base, regardless of how small it is, was ranked in the top 25. Morgantown used to be a very hard place to play at, and now it's just a game. It was once How about those EErs, and now turned to how about next year.
Agree Brown is a WVU ADM dream come true. Win the G5 games and Bobby Moe type teams. Go 5-7, 6-6, 7-5. Every few years win 8 games with a light schedule and go to a minor bowl. But always next year. Only way that changes is by not bitching on these NB boards like here and others that when he wins a game they want to give him a lifetime contract is to not show up at the game. The WVU ADM will understand that IN TIME and then reality hits home. WVU FB not only effects WVU but entire economy of the Morgantown area. Finally GEE is gone and if WVU hires another GEE the whole University is in trouble. Successful SPORTS attract students and something WVU is having a problem with since GEE and Company running the show at WVU.
Fire Neal brown
Fire the fair weather fanbase.
@@tutnod2449 hello Neal. No disrespect sir, but you've done the best you could do obviously. The fanbase has done its best trying to support you during the fall" not climb". That being said, it's best you and your family leave to leave Morgantown asap, and go on an all expenses paid vacation, by the university to whatever luxury vacation destination you and your family desire. Thanks! From the real Mountaineer nation!
@@rollme1kenobi768 How many Power 5 wins do you have?
A lot of people say we have unrealistic expectations. I think we have the minimal goals that are set for any football program that plays at the Division I level in the P4. 8-9 win seasons consistently but not back to back all the time, make consistent bowl game appearances and win when you can, eventually build to the point you can compete in the conference title, then hopefully get to the grand stage which is the CFP. In today's landscape of college football that is everyone in the Power 4's goal to a certain degree. Of course we have to limit them, we're not a blue blood. The only exceptions to probably having lower expectations are majority of G5 schools.
I agree. If you look at total win percentage brown is pretty close to everyone. The difference is, to me, that we have just have 5-7 wins every year. Not good not terrible. I'd rather have a 3 win season that eventually grows to a 9-11 win season a couple seasons after a terrible season like that. Some ups. Some downs. Something to cheer for. Not .500 every single year. Have a .500 average but because we had some decent seasons and some really bad but a few unbelievable sprinkled in there. Along with a big game win here or there.
Brown is 34-32
How is Iowa State different than WV as far as money, facilities, and fan base? They are undefeated.
@@RedBone-q2v I’ve been saying the same thing Iowa St is relatively similar to WVU overall and they have a good coach who has elevated their program, granted he has had some down seasons here and there even with him but Brown has shown next to no ability to elevate our program
Did we ever hear Don Nehlen complain about the tough schedules? NOPE!!! We need a tougher football coach. Not a coach that just quits when things get difficult. Brown is just like a spoiled rich kid reacting to when his life gets difficult. Do we need a cry closet for Neal Brown? This is college football, not pickle ball. Brown needs to go at the end of the season.
I remember when the AD said Bill Stewart’s three 9 win seasons were insufficient for a WVU football program! What happened to our expectations?
In the Big12 Stew wouldn't have won 6 games a year, they had tons of talent and the offense was horrible.
@samventura5455 I would support Stew with 3 and 9 seasons. At least Stew was a West Virginian a real West Virginian!
@@RedBone-q2v, I wouldn’t go that far but I feel like it is unfair to keep a sixth year 50/50 coach when a native was canned with a 70/30 record.
@@doughurst7831 Exactly! Neal Brownhole is a thief!
Kudos to Couz for defending Mountaineer Nation on X. Fans are understandably upset but there’s no place for hate and threatening behavior towards anyone in the program. That isn’t who we are, there’s always a couple morons in a fanbase. THANKS COUZ FOR YOUR PROFESSIONALISM AND LOVE FOR WVU
I agree 120% to your comments Couz! and much respect for speaking the truth! ; Neil Browns Records are un-acceptable to me and I'm hoping the same for many other die hard fans ? Holgerson had better records and we refused to meet his salary request. When was the last time we where ranked in the last 10 years, if I'm not mistaken, fans are used to being Ranked and going to bowl games on New Years day or New Years eve. Thoughts?
We were ranked in Holgorsen’s last year of 2018. Top 20 I believe at year’s end.
As always i learn so much from this show.. awesome job
Wasn't really on the bandwagon until the Yates comment. Neal is more worried about 1 players confidence instead of letting the team and fans down. With all the players leave after this year we will be lucky to win many next year.
I enjoy seeing the guys that look excited to play the game. That game Saturday was felt out boring
I don’t think we have much hope for a football team that is anything other than average for the foreseeable future.
As long as Brown, Baker and Gee are their you are right. Gee gone in June 2025. People do not realize how important naming a new President is in the coming months. Stay inside and appoint a Gee person will be the kiss of death for WVU.
Expectations are the root cause of disappointment.
Yes Couz, WVU fans should expect more. Actually we should demand more.! I’ll soon be 70 years old and have been a WVU fan all of my life, and have seen a lot of WVU football. We’re not a “blue blood” program, never will be, but it’s not too much to expect our team to be ranked somewhere in the Top 25 most seasons and once every 5-6 years compete for a BigXII title. Be ranked in the top 4 or 5 teams in the BigXII every year. That is not too much to ask! I think it’s a realistic expectation for a team with the history, tradition and overall winning percentage.
Neal Brown is really a nice guy. But being a nice guy doesn't mean you're going to be a good head coach. I think if he loses the next two games to KSU and Arizona, he'll be gone. And if he is, then I'll wish him nothing but the best.
Sorry Brown not going anywhere until GEE is gone and a new outsider President is named, hopefully someone who does not hate SPORTS.
Tix, food, parking, hotel, fuel, concessions, "beverages" , & food the next day traveling home... Yeah, almost 1k spent.
Had a great day tailgating, but... none of us was happy with the outcome of the game & was hoping before the game the program as a whole would prove us wrong but it didn't. We got out coached "again", player miscues , & ect ect ect.
We're a like a scratched record right now that keeps playing the same rotation & never moving forward 😭😡🤬🥵
If the schedule is tough, then that just means you need to play harder not cry like a wimp about it being difficult!!!
Campbell is a fantastic football coach.
I commend the "I'm judging him as the WVU football coach and not as a human being."
@@Gr8H8ful8 thank you but it’s true. Being bad at your job doesn’t make you a bad person.
Look at it this way. After you get through the gate, you have free use of the restrooms. 😂😂😂😂
@@6Years7YearsNope that’s true.
Don Nehlen won 29.5% of the games played against top 20 teams & 26.6% of the games against top 25 schools. Neal Brown has won 12.5% of the games WVU has played against top 20 teams in his 5 1/2 years & 15.8% of the games against top 25 schools. Nehlen's numbers against top 25 competition might have been better if the AP had ranked the top 25 before 1989. Some of Nehlen's best teams played during 1980-88 when the rankings were limited to the top 20.
About time you’re getting fired up about this whole situation. It’s embarrassing, and this dumb comment was made by a mediocre coach who’s clearly checked out.
Jiminy! Did Neal just offer up a way for him to be fired -- as if he wants out, as well?? (Nice background, btw. The CC-logo helmet is cool.)
Thanks.
Coal Rush to "Bowl Brush."
Brown and Greene Skid marks. Brush & Flush both!
We can all agree that Neal Brown is NOT doing the job. I would hope that he realizes this at some point before this season ends and resigns avoiding a firing and buyout. That would be a class thing to do. He must win out in order change my mind. I don't think this happens.however. We have become irrelevant in college football. It Hurts!
🤯 WOW! JUST WOW!
Thanks!
@@timboWVU thanks Tim. I always appreciate your support and opinions.
I think we have the worst recruiting in the Big XII. We also have mediocrity in our coaching staff.
Very expensive to fire NB,
maybe Kroger will give everyone
a discount for tailgaters shopping
for the WVU football tailgating experience.
I will support the players but I will never support NB, great show
Thanks
Neal has to go, IT'S BEEN 6 YEARS!. Our problem is that kids from the East coast don't want to play across the country unless it's to compete for National Championships. WVU isn't that type of program but with a good Coach we can have that type of season every now and then. We really need Jimbo, he will get us the talent...or we need to go back to one of the East coast conferences.
I dont think he meant it the way people are taking it. I think he meant to say that the full experience as a show is good. Like the uniforms and miners walking out or the drone show and whatever else. It just so happens that most of us care way more about winning or even losing but in a close fun game. I think he knows winning is paramount but he also sees the whole show as a thino to get excited about. I dont disagree with that. Now I also think he said it in a stupid way. I'm no brown fan but I am a wvu fan and I'm not going to walk out on my team, my school, and my state. I'll always support the team as I criticize the staff or whatever it may be. Either way basketball season starts soon so we have something else to look forward too at least.
It’s a slap in the face, impact vs intent and I’m convinced that dud thinks it’s impossible to win at wvu. We ran Dana out for FAR less. Bare minimum learn to read the room, Neal shouldn’t be allowed to coach high school ball lol
@@matthewwatkins3760 I would not get too excited about basketball season. It will likely be a lean year for them as well.
Blah blah blah.
Couz I’ve got a ton of stuff to say about Neal brown but I’ll save it, what I will say is that the drone show was a slap in the face to all the band members who put in a ton of time and effort to learn pregame, halftime shows, and this year prepare for a macy’s parade. That was absolutely ridiculous to me that they had the drone show while the band was performing halftime
@@tmcobb04 I wasn’t aware of that. That sucks.
Just curious bc I dont know...what's Brown's record at home?
BTW...if Joey McGuire had said that, nobody wouldve been happy. When Matt Wells was asked what he liked about living in Lubbock...his answer basically got a lot of heat, but he wasnt winning, either. Lots of people thought thats what got him fired, but then he blew a game against KSU to put the nail in his coffin.
His home record vs top 25 teams is 3-7.
Guarantee they won't even talk about letting him go until the end of next year.
What NB said wasn't wrong, it was the time & place to say is all. What I would be concerned with is what a WV pod cast said about the returning production for next season. Maybe it is time to swallow a losing season & start from scratch with new players & coach.
No it’s wrong, when you’ve been shitting the bed for 6yrs and fleecing an already struggling university you can kick rocks all the way back to ITT Tech
Wvu the only school to never fire a head football coach EVER the coach in waiting was the closest they ever got
I dont feel bad for anyone getting paid MILLIONS to lose football games.
Brown has the makings of a slightly above mediocre FCS head coach. That's where he should be
Time to move on.
People who defend Neal are the same people who stay in a toxic relationship because they’re too scared to be single for a while. 😂
Couz do you think that Neal Brown wants out? I’ve started to get the feeling that he is just tired of the pressure and is feeling dejected and maybe this was his way of letting that shine through. It’s a bad situation because financially I don’t know that we have the capabilities to do the buyout without having to secure funds elsewhere or shift money around in the university’s operations which as we have seen, administration wants to avoid if at all possible. I think maybe he wishes that they would buy him out but also it would be very very difficult to resign and forego all the millions of dollars in money he is owed on that contract. I think it’s a bad situation for both parties.
@@carltonwykle645 I’ve wondered the same myself. The pressures of being a P4 coach are greater than ever now and we’ve already seen several coaches leave the profession.
I think 6-6 is about where we are going end up at the big 12 is so bottom heavy and average to slightly below average team has a really good chance of going 500
I think he pulls 7 out and ppl completely forget that we have been this exact same thing for 6yrs. It’s almost boycott/pull tickets time imho and I have always been vocal ab supporting the team no matter who is the coach or if I like them or not
What did coach Brown say or do? I mean how did he step in it? I'm still new with getting into football, info would be appreciated.
“I get you all wanna win but my question is did you have a good time? It seemed like a great atmosphere” or something along those lines
I explain in the video.
I unlike most of wvu fans. As a Pitt fan. Root for wvu unless they are playing PITT
Matt Campbell also had a losing season in 2022, 4-8.
@@Commentleaver-c6x 2 out of 9 doesn’t sound great, but when you consider where ISU was when he arrived, I’d say it’s pretty good.
@@CouzsCornerSports yeah, he’s definitely done better than Brown.
Brown beat #15 VT that went on to have a losing season .
See how many starters & "talented" players we're losing after this year?
UNACCEPTABLE!!!! 😂😂😂
If we get beat this weekend, it will be because a sophmore QB will run and throw all over us. My bet is our QB cannot compete with him . THATS what aggravates me about NB. We have a QB that cant beat good teams. The backup ya'll love is a carbon copy. Change IS needed but its at the most important position on the field or the man who continues to miss on that position.
Hail 2 PITT
So disapointed in WVU . I think its time for Brown to go. WVU is 2-15 in BIG GAMES . He needs to go and go now .... hes a good recruiter and super nice guy --but a lousy head coach ..
Everyone saying BROWN is a nice guy. How many of you KNOW him? NONE. He just interviews well. Name a politician who is not a nice person publicly and they all are thieves, lack morals, back stabbers, and over all scum bags in private.
A good recruiter? I never agreed with this. We’ve barely put any guys in the NFL and we’ve been getting beat like crazy the last five years. I actually think talent evaluation is one of the biggest problems with this coaching staff.
I bet you $1000 Rich Rod could win 9 or 10 games with this team at least.
When we get a QB, we'll overcome and win the tight games we dont win now (against better teams). We 'll win games against better teams that we shouldnt. We havent had one under Neal to this point. #2 aint it either. Is he buried on the depth chart? Or sitting out there buried on one of those top 4 teams in the nation? Or somewhere else?
We recruit better than Iowa State… so what’s the problem exactly?
No you don't recruit better
Hey just don't get the mountaineers, They deserve much better. Hire Jim Bo Fisher
They pay Neal Brown 4 million a year we could get a much better coach for that. Hes 3-18 against ranked opponents
Enough is enough. He has to go
Dont want to hurt feelings but Kleiman has had better QB's. Just truth, one if them is playing for Ohio State.
And number 15 va tech that’s his best wins
It still didn’t sink in with you
Hey Mountaineer Nation. Tired of the BULLSHIT? Let the university know Saturday night in your own way. Be safe HAVE FUN !!!
No more 5 and 6 game win seasons, not acceptable
I don’t think 7 is enough in year 6. I was hesitant ab the extension before bc I thought it made him easier to fire but if we are chained to this dud for another season our program may hit a point where it’s unfixable for a decade. We’re gonna lose a ton of guys after this season lol
They beat 16 k state back in 2020
Why in the world would you keep putting up with bad snaps, over and over and over. There is so much a coach should take! Lord have mercy! Qb have bad games and get taken out, why not centers. Fans want wins not just good tailgates! Get rid of him… Brown will find another job!
I'll say it again. Were plays there to be made? Yes and they werent made by PLAYERS! Please stop, you dont have the money to gwt rid of him plus pay the 20 mil settlement. Make the plays that matter this weekend, then we'll talk about coaching. Hey Greene, make plays against better opponents!
Has Neil Browneye won a big game yet?
@@rd24life nope

Kudos to u for acknowledging and apologizing. But at the same time we get rid of him who is the replacement. I mean we are wvu look at our past. Last great season we had was when we had pat white Steve dalton Owen Schmidt. Storable best backfield ever in college football. Then we had geno Stedman and Tavon receiving/running but. We talked about it before we got Neal brown. Not saying it’s impossible of getting lucky but. No dana. Man U know what he did. He bounced when he knew. To be fair it’s a business but
I'm a Penn State fan but I think it's so soon for WVU fans to write off this season. IMO It was unreasonable to think that you could win the B1G title this year and your losses to Penn State and Iowa State should have been expected. You should have beaten Pitt but most teams lose one game every year to an inferior team. If you beat Kansas State you have a good shot at finishing 7-2 in conference (Texas Tech is a likely loss) and 8-4 overall. That wouldn't be great but it's not taking a step back from last year since the B12 schedule is more difficult this year.
4 years too late
Fire Neal Brown immediately for those comments! Unacceptable. No NB losing is not fun. I would rather sit through a 35 degree game, during a monsoon, with a 3 hour delay and win. The other stuff is just filler for why we show up for games. What a fing bum
