"If I don't trust myself to make the leap from a priviliged position, I would never trust myself to do anything." That hit hard.

Hi there! I'm so thankful the algorithm suggested your video to me. I was at a very toxic job. I also had sleepless nights, mental breakdowns, even suicidal thoughts. But I couldn't leave since I have kids, and solely my husband's salary wouldn't be enough for us to live without a struggle. We are a family of immigrants, so we're counting only on each other.
My boss was diminishing any achievements and progress I made and was very picky. She wanted me out, but never wanted to do it on good legal terms so she tried to made it look like a disciplinary firing. And though I was shocked and confused as I was a hardworker, that gave me a great opportunity to wake up, stand up for myself and start a new career I wanted to try for years. I am starting in September, and I will have my summer to enjoy and recover.
Sending you vibes of love and support. Your words about thinking who you really want to be and what you will value at 70 hit me right. Good luck in your journey!

Oh man, that sounds absolutely awful! I'm so sorry you went through that. But you know what, now you're a lot more resilient and you'll see that change in yourself!
Very happy to hear that you found another job and are excited about it. I hope it turns out to be everything you want and more

Thank you!! Sorry to hear that though :( However, I would say, really think about the different factors I mentioned before making a decision. I had a list of pros and cons that helped me think clearly before I jumped. I hope things work out for you!

@shermeenv yes appreciate the list. The only reason I am in this job is the money and benefits is good (200k base and fully remote). But i hate everything else about the job. I am also from Pakistan, Lahore actually and the pressure to stay in jobs that no longer serve you is immense. My mom is living with me and I support my dad occasionally in Pakistan. I have 2 years of expenses saved and wanted to start an online business or do something else with my life but hard to find what it is. Looking forward to your part 2 and part 3 video!

I totally get that pressure! Do you know what exactly you hate about the job? Is it the actual work or do you feel stuck and the lack of freedom is adding to the misery or maybe the environment? I find it really helpful to reflect on that.

@shermeenv im leading the data analytics function in my department. I hate the actual day to day work, i dont have the proper resources, and we have little impact. The culture is starting to turn toxic with new management. Lack of growth opportunities and promotions. Feel very stagnant. I might take a few months off to try and work for myself and worst case I end up back in a corporate job with maybe lower pay. But incredibly difficult to give my notice because i like the security it provides. Thanks for your video to help in reflecting and your suggestions!

Yeah I love that idea! You could also start while you have the job then leave in the future. Good luck on the journey - rooting for you!!

Crazy - there is no breaks in the US. Perm status takes a very long time

Once you start working again begin immediately investing in index funds so by the time your 40 you can do whatever you want. Im 42 but have so much in index funds now i make as much from those now as i do my full time job so its like getting two full time salaries per year. Additionally the income i get from my investments is taxed at only 15 percent.

      That’s good advice, thank you!

I've done the same thing. Started investing in index funds in my 20's, now in my 30's I have so much invested so the return is almost my full paycheck like 87% of it.

Yes I did. I made sure of that before I left. Also, I was thinking about it for 6 months so during that time not only did I start saving more by reducing unnecessary spending, but I also started looking for part time jobs
