Great review, ladies! I came across NF like three years ago. The first song I heard was "How could you leave us", followed by "Mansion" and at that time I struggled with depression (I still am, but the pain is gone). They were too much for me to handle, but I kept NF on my radar. When he dropped "The Search", I started listening to all his songs and felt ready for the journey. He is, without a doubt, an extraordinarily talented artist, who speaks to me on so many levels. I like most of his albums, but I feel like the search is perfection regarding lyrics and instrumentation. I have it on repeat since it came out and don't get tired of it. On the contrary, I keep enjoying it even more, because lately I can listen to it in public without tearing up or feel like suffocating at certain lines. NF phrases them so delicately that they hit deep. The line "I don't wanna die, I just wanna get relief" reflects my internal battle so well. But what if, there's no relief because the thing I hate the most is a permanent part of me? The only thing I can do is start to embrace it. Another line from "Nate" is when he says "But everything that breaks you down can also build your character" feels true in my opinion because not everything that doesn't kill you makes you stronger. It can scar you for life, like trauma, but wont make you grow and let you become a better person. All these things you experience absolutely build your character, for better or worse. The last one I wanna talk about is the whole third verse from the search, which is obviously fire, but also very real: "Every day when you get up and think you'll never be great. You'll never be great, not because you're not, but the hate will always find a way to cut you up and murder your faith." The fact that Nate describes insecurities and self-hatred as so powerful that it can murder your faith is absolutely accurate. If you tell yourself that you are not worth it or even get to hear these things and you believe in them eventually, it can not only hold you back momentarily, but damage your self-perception permanently, like you murdered your faith. Anyway, that comment got a little out of hand, but it was important for me to get it off my chest. I hope y'all are doing good and don't forget that you're not the only one, because you can't be the only one. Love
